Chapter 466: The Sea Sovereign's Harvest
"If he meets Zhurong Yun again, Gange will definitely crush him!"
"Exactly! The Huaxia mainlanders just got lucky last time!"
In the Bharat section of the High-Sovereign Arena, the cheers for Gange were
deafening. Their fans' confidence was bordering on the delusional, a fact that
had the spectators from other Leagues stifling their laughter.
Meanwhile, in the Huaxia prep room, Kenji raised an eyebrow at the screen. He
looked at Gange's official participant photo: the man was grinning with arrogant
confidence, a Salazzle draped around his neck like a living scarf.
If Kenji had to pick the two most "interesting" people in this tournament, it
would be Matsumoto and Gange. However, his impressions of them were polar
opposites. Matsumoto commanded respect; Gange inspired a need for a long shower
and a restraining order.
"He's no weaker than Matsumoto in terms of raw stats," Zhurong Yun noted
succinctly.
Kenji nodded absentmindedly. "The matchmaking is actually decent today. I'd be
annoyed if they gave me another 'learning experience' opponent."
He stood up and headed for the tunnel.
The previous match ended, and the two Grand Champions entered the arena from
opposite sides.
Gange was true to his reputation. Even as he stepped onto the battlefield, he
carried his Salazzle in a princess carry. The Poison-type lizard flicked its
tongue, its eyes fixed on Kenji while its tail suggestively brushed against
Gange's arm.
Gange's smile was wide and wild, but Kenji noticed a twitch in his jaw. Beneath
the bravado, the Bharat Champion was tense. He wasn't stupid; he knew what Kenji
had done to Rio.
Kenji offered a thin smile. At least he hasn't lost his brain entirely.
"The match... Begin!"
The referee's flags snapped down.
"Go! Typhlosion!" Gange roared.
"I'm counting on you! Gyarados!"
"BAOOOOO!"
Typhlosion erupted from its ball, the ring of fire around its neck flaring with
intense heat.
"HOOOOOOOOOOR!"
Before the echo of the first roar could fade, a second, far more violent sound
tore through the air. The sound was so heavy it felt like a physical shockwave,
cutting through Typhlosion's voice and leaving a ringing silence in its wake.
THOOM!
Gyarados landed, its massive tail slamming into the ground and cracking the
rock. Its eyes, glowing with a primal, predatory hunger, locked onto the
fire-beast.
The flames around Typhlosion's neck instantly flickered and dimmed. The
Pokémon's posture slumped, its fur bristling as it began to shake. It was
staring up at a creature that radiated the aura of an apex predator.
But while the Pokémon was terrified, Gange's eyes lit up. He stared at Kenji's
Gyarados, and for a horrifying moment, a look of distinct, lustful appreciation
crossed his face.
"HOU…"
Gyarados noticed the gaze. Its lip curled in a snarl of pure disgust, and its
aura darkened significantly. If there hadn't been a containment barrier, the
serpent would have lunged across the field to swallow Gange whole just to end
the eye contact.
Kenji sighed. Truly a freak.
[Pokémon Status]
Target: Typhlosion (Champion Tier) Level: 99 Type: Fire Ability: Blaze
Potential: S
Kenji's gaze shifted to his own partner's stats.
[Pokémon Status]
Name: Gyarados (4-Star) Level: 97 Type: Water / Flying Items: Radiant
Bloodthirster, Radiant Edge of Night, Radiant Quicksilver. Potential: S+
In two years, Gyarados had reached Level 97. If it weren't capped by its S+
potential, it likely would have hit the Master Tier by now. But even at 97, it
was a walking apocalypse.
"Typhlosion! Rock Slide!" Gange shouted, finally remembering he was in a battle.
He waited for the attack. He waited... and kept waiting.
Typhlosion remained frozen. It stood in place, its muscles locked by a fear so
absolute it had overridden its neural pathways.
Kenji smirked.
Gyarados began to move. It didn't rush. It slithered forward with slow,
deliberate movements, its heavy scales grinding against the stone.
As the distance closed, Typhlosion's trembling grew more violent. It looked like
it was having a seizure. Its eyes were wide, glazed with terror as the shadow of
the Sea Sovereign fell over it.
"Typhlosion! MOVE!" Gange screamed, his face turning a dark, mottled purple.
It was no use. The combination of Dual Intimidate and the sheer Pressure of a
high-tier Kenji Pokémon was a biological cage.
Gyarados reached the fire-beast. It slowly raised its massive tail, the water
from the moisture in the air beginning to spiral around the scales in a
high-pressure vortex.
Aqua Tail.
"HOOOOOOR!"
The serpent swung. The blow caught Typhlosion squarely in the face.
SHHH-BOOM!
The sound was like a wrecking ball hitting a wet sack of flour. Typhlosion was
launched backward, streaking through the air like a discarded toy. It slammed
into Gange's side of the containment barrier, the psychic shield groaning under
the impact.
The fire-beast slumped to the ground and went limp instantly.
One shot.
The stadium was eerily silent. Spectators from fifty nations stared at the
field, unable to process what they had just seen.
Rio, back in the Neon League lounge, felt a sudden, strange sense of relief. At
least my Beartic tried to fight, she thought. This is just embarrassing.
Gange was shaking with rage. His face was so dark it looked like charred wood.
This was a catastrophe. He was a Grand Champion! To have his first Pokémon
defeated without even throwing a punch was a humiliation that would follow him
for the rest of his life.
"BAKA! CHEATER! This has to be a fixed match!" the Bharat fans began to scream,
throwing trash toward the field.
The international referees ignored them. They were professionals; they could see
exactly what had happened. It wasn't "cheating"—it was a total collapse of the
Pokémon's will in the face of an overwhelmingly superior soul.
"Typhlosion is unable to battle! Gyarados wins!"
The referee signaled for Gange to release his second partner.
Gange's hands were trembling so hard he nearly dropped the ball. He eventually
managed to hurl it into the arena.
"Go! Flareon!"
"Flar-eee!"
The fluffy fire-beast appeared, but the "cute" factor lasted all of one second.
The moment its paws touched the ground, the Pressure hit it. Flareon dropped
into a submissive crouch, its belly nearly touching the dirt as it stared at
Gyarados with wide, unblinking eyes.
Because of its Guts ability, it had a slightly higher mental fortitude than
Typhlosion, but it was still suppressed.
"Flareon! Double-Edge! Give your life for the glory of Bharat!"
"FLARE?!"
The Pokémon tried to obey. It managed a weak, stumbling charge.
WHISH—
A blue shadow flickered. Gyarados moved with the speed of a striking cobra.
Before Flareon could even finish its first step, the massive tail was already
descending.
BANG!
Another Aqua Tail. Another one-shot.
Flareon followed its predecessor to the barrier, sliding down the glass in a
pile of singed orange fluff.
The cycle continued.
By the time the referee announced the midpoint of the match, the score was 3-0.
All three of Gange's Pokémon had been defeated by a single Aqua Tail each. The
total active combat time for the entire first half was less than ten seconds.
Gange sat on his bench during the intermission, his head bowed. He looked like a
man whose soul had been extracted through his ears. He realized now that
Gyarados wasn't just strong—it was Level 97+, effectively a Master Tier
masquerading as a Champion.
His goal had changed. He was no longer trying to win. He was just desperately
trying to stop the 6-0. He closed his eyes, praying for a miracle as he reached
for his fourth Poké Ball.
