Chapter 319 - Chapter 318 He was telling the truth and hadn't hidden anything from Martha.

"A vacation?" Martha lay on the bed and smiled bitterly at Eric, "Originally, I thought that becoming a senator would keep me busy, but I didn't expect so many things to happen during this time. I didn't become a senator, and now I can only stay at home looking after the farm and can't go to the Talon Club. For me, every day should be a vacation."

"Regarding Clark, have you heard any news about him?" Martha suddenly asked about Clark's whereabouts.

Eric paused, then shook his head, "No, since he came to the hospital, I've also sent people to look for him! But we haven't found him yet."

He was telling the truth and hadn't hidden anything from Martha.

Clark seemed to have guessed that he was being sought, making his whereabouts extremely secretive.

Eric hadn't found any trace of him to this day.

"No?" Hearing Eric's answer, Martha sighed.

Chloe and Louise, standing nearby, also showed expressions of disappointment.

After a moment of silence in the room, Martha suddenly asked Eric, "Eric, are you still persisting in your actions?"

"I never look back, Mom," Eric replied to his mother.

"Then tell me, are you planning to rule the world, to become the lord of the world?" Martha's face was etched with disappointment, "If you abuse your power for your own desires, and it doesn't make this world better, then, Eric, you have failed your father's expectations from the very beginning."

"Jonathan always loved you, more than anyone. He always believed that your and Clark's arrival in this world was to make it better, that you carried many responsibilities. You and Clark might face some difficulties and setbacks, but no matter what happens, that is the world refining you into stronger people, both physically and mentally."

Martha got out of bed, walked over, and took Eric's hands, "I know your pain, Eric, but this isn't our way of solving things; it's the beginning of a slide into the abyss. You should protect humanity, not in this way, Eric."

Looking at his mother's slightly reddened eyes, Eric fell silent.

After a while, he said to his mother, "This is also a way of protecting, Mom."

"It's not." Martha shook her head and said to Eric, "If Jonathan were still alive, he would certainly have the same opinion as me, that there are some lines you cannot cross."

She knew she wasn't Jonathan, so she couldn't stop Eric, but she still tried to persuade her youngest son in her own way.

"I will always love you, Mom."

Eric didn't directly answer the question but said something irrelevant to Martha and hugged her.

"I have something else to do, so, I'm sorry, I'll take my leave first!" Eric said to his mother and the two women, then prepared to leave.

But the door to the room suddenly opened, and the petite Rachel came in from outside.

Seeing Eric, Rachel immediately jumped onto him and excitedly said, "Brother, when did you get here?"

"Just arrived." Eric held Rachel, who was almost a young woman now, gently put her down, stroked her hair, and asked, "What were you doing just now?"

"I went to buy something for Mom, these are Mom's favorite fruits." Rachel held up the fruits in her hand and showed them to Eric, "Brother, do you want to try some?"

"I won't eat any." Eric affectionately stroked his sister's shoulder and said, "Take good care of Mom here, I'll come to see you often."

"Huh? You're leaving already, Brother?" Rachel still wanted to talk to Eric, and hearing he was leaving, she immediately became a little unhappy.

"One more day, and Mom will be back at the farm. Don't tell me you can't even last one day!" Eric playfully flicked his sister's nose and said.

"Okay, just one day!" Rachel pouted, saying unhappily.

Although her mood had improved slightly, she was still in an unhappy state, not having completely shaken off her bad mood.

After bidding farewell to Rachel, Eric left the ward.

As soon as he reached the hallway, he was stopped by Louise and Chloe, who had followed him out.

"Eric!" Louise called out to him.

"An interview? Sorry, I don't have time today." Eric turned around and politely declined.

"Is an interview the only reason we'd look for you?" Louise indicated that her identity wasn't just that of a reporter.

"Chloe and I are also your friends, especially Chloe. You've been together since elementary and middle school. Can't we have a conversation as friends? Or have you become president and started to disregard your old friends?" Louise spoke to Eric with sharp words, her meaningful gaze fixed on him.

Chloe, standing beside her, was speechless, but seeing Eric's gaze, she still puffed out her chest, indicating that she stood on the same side as her cousin.

"I have never changed my thoughts or attitude, whether towards myself or others." Eric looked at the two women and said expressionlessly, "Since you're here as friends, then of course I can't refuse. But our conversation, it's best not to bring up topics that would make us both uncomfortable."

"Of course!" Louise nodded.

Chloe, beside her, let out a long sigh of relief. Seeing that the two didn't get into a conflict, the weight in her heart finally lifted.

She knew that her cousin was quite displeased with Eric's actions over the past few months.

Although she had tried to persuade her that Eric was a very determined person and would never change his mind due to others' interference, Louise still expressed her desire to persuade Eric and try to bring him back on track.

In her opinion, her cousin's thoughts suddenly had a strange similarity to Clark's.

And connecting this to her cousin's previous statement that she had once dreamed of a guy in underwear flying around in the sky, she seriously suspected that there was some connection between her cousin and Clark.
