Chapter 40 - chapter 40

  "Enough!"

The two daughters were on the verge of battle. Zhu Mo, already irritable, felt a headache coming on. He shouted impatiently, "Shut up! Now is not the time for you to fight!"

  "Hmph!"

Both daughters turned their heads away simultaneously. Zhu Zhuyun was slightly arrogant, while Zhu Zhuqing turned her head slightly, appearing indifferent.

  "Let's go, let's go take a look!"

Based on Zhu Zhuqing's words alone, Zhu Mo couldn't determine anything concrete. Moreover, Zhu Lian's fate was uncertain; he might not be really dead, and might have already captured that kid.

It was best to go and see.

  Zhu Zhuqing hesitated slightly.

"What are you afraid of?" Zhu Zhuyun sneered, "Are you scared out of your wits?"

  "Shut up!" Zhu Mo retorted.

He looked at Zhu Zhuqing and reassured her, "That kid is a liar. He's been following us all day without daring to make a move. Your father's strength as a Soul Douluo must make him wary. Now that we're going together, he won't be able to cause any trouble. If he's really there, I'll just take his head."

Zhu Zhuqing pursed her lips and nodded slightly.

The group then proceeded towards the Terrorclaw Bear's lair. After a long while, they arrived at their destination. Without Zhu Mo's orders, the servants began searching.

Soon, several returned to Zhu Mo and reported what they had seen.

"Reporting to the clan leader, we haven't found any trace of that brat. He must have cleared the way and escaped. If he didn't try to pursue the Second Miss, he has plenty of time."

"Clan leader, I found Zhu Lie's body, and a severed arm that had turned to crystal. His chest was pierced by a sharp spike, and his body was filled with deadly poison. The arm was severed at the shoulder; judging from the cut, it was Zhu Lie's own doing."

"Clan leader, Zhu Lian's body was severed at the waist, the cut was unusually clean, and the waist was broken into several pieces. I suspect it was the work of a soul beast's claw. Most likely… possibly a Terrorclaw Bear." He seemed somewhat doubtful of his judgment, hesitating for a moment.

  ...

Messages poured in one after another. Zhu Mo listened quietly with his eyes closed, feeling as if he were back in the military camp receiving reports.

Zhu Mo had only a superficial understanding of the young man and hadn't paid him much attention. Now, as the information accumulated, the image in his mind gradually became more vivid.

When all his subordinates had finished reporting, Zhu Mo slowly opened his eyes, a flicker of surprise crossing his narrow pupils.

"Tsk, I misjudged him!" Zhu Mo clicked his tongue in admiration. Now, his anger had subsided, and he looked at Cheng Xiao with newfound respect. "What a cunning kid, quite shrewd."

Zhu Zhuyun raised an eyebrow and asked, "That kid just hid his strength, didn't he? What kind of shrewdness is that? If I were out alone, I wouldn't easily reveal all my strength."

"That kid probably lied to us from the beginning," Zhu Mo sneered. "What elders? He's just fooling us!" Zhu

Zhuyun was taken aback, somewhat confused. Zhu Zhuqing's delicate brows furrowed slightly, lost in thought.

"The seven elders he mentioned might not be related at all! Moreover, it's highly likely that he was the one who killed them!" Zhu Mo explained to his two daughters. "It's possible that the Soul Sect team coveted his soul bone, or it's possible that he stole the soul bone from the Soul Sect team. Either way, the result is the same."

As he spoke, Zhu Mo pointed to the collected corpses of Zhu Lian and Zhu Lie, saying, "Look, Zhu Lian and Zhu Lie are covered in wounds from soul beasts. Is there any trace of human intervention? If Zhu Qing hadn't told you that the kid had a soul bone skill that could summon more than ten thousand-year-old soul beasts, would you have thought the one who killed them was a soul master?" "

Similarly, most of the injuries on that Soul Sect team were from soul beasts, and the final blow must have been his doing. As for why he's so familiar with the seven of them..."

Zhu Mo had a sudden realization, understanding something that had been puzzling him. His eyes flickered slightly: "He hired this Soul Sect team! Or they had some interaction before! Otherwise, he wouldn't know every single member of the team so well!"

"He's been lying to us all this way!" Zhu Zhuyun suddenly understood, then became somewhat incredulous, "That kid could actually cry over the corpses of the people he killed? He should..."

As he spoke, Zhu Zhuyun looked at Zhu Zhuqing: "About the same age as Zhu Qing, right?"

Could a child of just over ten years old do something like that?

Because of the oppressive clan rules of the Zhu family, Zhu Zhuqing was already more mature than her peers.

But that boy was even more cunning than Zhu Zhuqing. He showed no fear in the face of a Soul Douluo, and the lies he fabricated on the spot were almost flawless. In front of his mortal enemy's corpse, he could shamelessly acknowledge an elder, wailing and lamenting as if he wanted to, expressing the utmost grief.

  Was this a child?

If his age were concealed and his experiences were told, probably no one would believe that a teenager would act this way; they would definitely think he was a grown-up scoundrel!

Zhu Zhuyun gasped. It was hard to imagine that the unremarkable boy possessed such cunning, and yet she had once been bossy towards him, never seeing the slightest dissatisfaction on his face!

Zhu Zhuqing's expression was even more complicated. After Zhu Zhuyun's reminder, she gradually realized that the person was actually the same age as her, yet already possessed such methods! And she herself, driven by a trace of fear, fled in panic.

Faced with the disparity, Zhu Zhuqing felt a pang of inferiority and longing. If only she were him, she would no longer fear the combined might of Zhu Zhuyun and Davis, and she could face them alone without Dai Mubai.

"He's quite the prodigy," even Zhu Mo couldn't help but praise.

  "Let's go!"

"Just...just leave like that?" Zhu Zhuyun couldn't understand. "Aren't we sending anyone to chase him? If he escapes, it'll cause a lot of trouble, won't it?"

"No need. So much time has passed; we can't catch him now." Zhu Mo had thought it through clearly. "That kid is so cautious he even has a fake name. Tang San, Tang San—what elder would give their child such a name? Only uncultured peasants."

"Could such a commoner family raise such a prodigy? It must be a name he made up on the spot. Even if you trace it, you won't find it."

"Fine, I don't care," Zhu Zhuyun said dismissively. "I just feel that letting him go will leave some people with a bad impression."

She glanced at Zhu Zhuqing with disdain. Zhu Zhuqing showed no reaction whatsoever, coldly turning her head away, seemingly disdainful of engaging in pointless arguments with Zhu Zhuyun—childish and low-level.

  "Hmph!"

Zhu Zhuyun snorted coldly, finding it utterly boring, and similarly turned her head away.

The two sisters loathed each other.

"Who said we'd let him go?" Zhu Mo's lips curled slightly upwards. "Since he's been in contact with that Soul Sect team, let's hand this over to the Spirit Hall! Tell them that kid is a Fallen One, with bizarre methods, and he killed an entire Soul Sect team at just over ten years old!"

"Let the Spirit Hall investigate slowly!"

With that, the group headed towards the Star Luo Empire. Zhu Zhuqing silently followed in the group, still taciturn and quite aloof. No one noticed the complex emotion lingering on her usually icy face.

Zhu Zhuqing gazed at Zhu Zhuyun, who was surrounded by admirers, pursed her still bloodless lips, her expression unreadable.

If the price I offered had swayed him, would the outcome have been different? With his help, I'm sure I could have defeated this woman, right?
