Chapter 39 - Aftermath

'Why did it have to do that last attack.'

Anderson sat up. The rocks rolled off of his body. Standing up he brushed the dust off his cloak.

'Gods that hurt.'

He looked over to where Hamond and Klark were. The two of them were slowly getting up. The rocks that had hit them were much larger than the ones that hit him.

Seeing the two moving Anderson went to check on Syna. Syna was nocked out at the start of the fight and seemed to be hit pretty hard.

As he moved he held his arm. It was twisted in the wrong direction. He had to block the last attack with his arm which lead to its current state.

Arriving next to the unconscious Syna. He bent down and picked her up with one hand. He currently wasn't smoking, but the effects were still in affect.

He moved going to meet the other two.

"How is she?" Hamond asked. Forgoing any of the hand signs they used before.

"Unconscious, but alright right now. Though it was a blunt attack so internal damage is likely. We need to get back to the compound soon just to be sure." Anderson said.

They were soon out of the crater. At any moment the crater would be swarmed by nightmare creatures. The battle didn't go as planned. It was supposed to be a quick and silent fight.

"Hey Hamond do you know why it wasn't using wind?" Anderson asked after he gave Syna to Klark.

"Its that forsaken terror." Hamond sighed, "One of the true rulers of the night clock is a fallen terror. We don't know much about it. The only thing we know is that it takes over weaker nightmare creatures and changing their abilities to be some sort of earth manipulation. It has only taken over creatures who were awaken demons and below. That's actually why there are no nightmare creatures weaker than the one we just fought. The few that come around the city get controlled and become one of its thralls. That cyclops was in the early stage of control though."

"So this hasn't happened before?"

"Not like this. I need to tell Cast, that thing needs to be eliminated soon." Hamond said only to continue a moment later, "Anderson, you have been here long so you probably haven't noticed, but things have been shifting for about six months. So I am giving you a warning. Prepare. Something big is going to happen and the longer you have time to prepare the better." Hamond added before going quite.

"He's right. That's part of the reason we came to hunt the cyclops. We want to get ride of any and all possible thralls for the terror. This was the first one that was a devil to be enthralled. That means its getting stronger.

But that's not all. Not only has that nightmare creature been getting stronger, but other nightmare creatures have been too. This next summer summit is going to be an important one. There is a good chance we are going to have to join hands with the other factions to kill the terror or one of the other kings." Klark continued after Hamond.

"Kings?" Anderson said confused.

"There are five nightmare creatures we have deemed as the kings. Four of them are Fallen and one is Corrupt. The Corrupt is a tyrant while the Fallen are all terrors. The Corrupt is the one that causes the chill. While the terrors don't attack us as direct as that." Klark explained.

As he finished his explanation the gates of the compound came into sight.

Zena POV

Zena's body was laid in a med.

Waking up she stared at the white ceiling above her. She could not move. Her body was almost fine, yet everything hurt. Every single moment hurt like nothing she had felt before.

The pain came from deep within her soul. The Ascended Clock Work apparently did much more than just entire her soul.

She dived into her soul sea. The vast expanse of her soul was painted red from the crimson glow of her soul core.

Her soul sea was clear. With every step she took blood splashed. She looked at her soul core. There was a crack. A single crack that extended from her core and out to the edge of her soul.

The crack circled around the soul sea. It almost looked like a rope, or at least where a rope used to be. It was almost like something used a rope to pull her core out of her soul.

There she stayed, looking upon her cracked soul. The pain of it was immense and constant. It filled her mind leaving her no time to think.

Then she felt something.

One of the orbs around her soul core moved. As it approached Zena it exploded into essence. The essence stared to drift around her, before forming into a book in front of her.

It hovered before her. Slowly the book opened, page by page. Till it stopped, the book glowed bright.

Four types of essences started flowing. The essences were not hers, nor were they of humans. She had felt these essences before. They were the essences of those she had slain. Now the book held the essences and was using them.

The four essences moved away from her body. Raising above her and reaching her core. The first essence slowly inched their way along the crack. Inch by inch the the crack was filled. Then the second essence moved. Acting like a second layer to her core. Then a third and finally a fourth.

The crack that once circled her soul was gone. Her wound was fixed. She was healed.

The book closed in front of her as the essences in her soul faded away. As they did the book started to faded along with them. The book faded slowly as it leaked essence.

Yet the book was not the only thing to faded as Zena's vison faded to black.
