Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Thing Beneath the Synchronisation

The second heartbeat continued echoing.

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

Each pulse spread throughout Huang Ming's body like a shockwave moving through his bones, muscles, nerves, and meridians simultaneously. The chaotic spiritual energy surrounding him no longer fluctuated randomly. Instead, it moved rhythmically now, expanding and compressing around him like the breathing of some enormous unseen creature. And the worst part—

Huang could feel it breathing with him.

The entire battlefield had fallen silent. Even the warning sirens echoing faintly throughout Training Sector Three now sounded distant beneath the overwhelming pressure radiating from Platform Seven. Students throughout the arena stared toward Huang with pale faces, while instinctive fear spread through the crowd uncontrollably because the pressure surrounding him no longer felt like unstable spiritual energy.

It felt alive.

At the centre of the shattered battlefield, Huang struggled to steady his breathing while pain continued spreading violently throughout his chest. Chaotic energy pulsed rhythmically around him, while nearby debris floated slightly above the fractured arena floor before falling again with every heartbeat. Tiny fractures continued spreading beneath his feet, while unstable waves distorted the surrounding air.

His muscles twitched involuntarily. His vision blurred intermittently. And deep inside his body—

Something was moving.

"… No…" Huang muttered under his breath while gripping his chest tightly. "No, no, no, no, no…"

Inside his mind, Lyra's voice responded immediately.

"Synchronisation instability continuing to increase."

"…THAT'S NOT HELPING!"

But even as Huang shouted internally, another pulse erupted throughout his body.

THUMP.

This time, the entire platform trembled violently. Cracks spread farther beneath Huang's feet, while nearby steel fragments lifted several centimetres into the air. The emergency stabilisation barriers surrounding the battlefield flickered dangerously as unstable pressure waves rippled outward across the arena.

Several nearby students immediately stumbled backward.

"What the hell is happening?!"

"That pressure feels wrong…"

"It doesn't even feel human anymore…"

Even Combat Division students watching nearby looked visibly disturbed now. Some upperclassmen instinctively activated spiritual reinforcement throughout their bodies purely from defensive reflex.

Far above the battlefield, the observation room had descended into complete chaos. Warning alerts flashed continuously across countless holographic displays while Huang's combat readings fluctuated wildly beyond normal measurement ranges.

"His spiritual output just spiked again!"

"No—wait—the energy pattern completely changed!"

"What is that rhythm?!"

"His neural synchronization is becoming unstable!"

"That biological fluctuation shouldn't even be possible!"

The older instructor stared toward Huang's profile silently while tension spread visibly across his face because the readings no longer resembled ordinary spiritual evolution.

They resembled biological synchronization.

Almost like two separate systems were beginning to merge together.

"…Impossible…" one instructor muttered quietly.

The older instructor didn't answer immediately because somewhere deep inside himself, he already knew.

Something inside Huang had awakened.

Meanwhile, down below, even Rex Hao had stopped attacking completely. The rage and desperation covering his face earlier had gradually been replaced by visible uncertainty while unstable reinforcement energy flickered around his trembling arms.

Because even Rex could feel it.

Something had changed.

The pressure radiating from Huang no longer felt chaotic.

It felt predatory.

"You…" Rex muttered slowly while staring toward Huang. "What the hell are you…"

Huang himself looked equally horrified because deep inside his synchronization process, he could still hear the heartbeat.

Slow.

Heavy.

Ancient.

And every pulse made the thing inside him feel closer.

Another violent wave of pain suddenly exploded throughout Huang's nervous system.

He immediately dropped to one knee.

"GHHK—!"

Chaotic spiritual energy erupted outward uncontrollably while cracks spread across portions of his arm and neck again. Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth as unstable force distorted the surrounding air violently.

Inside his mind, Lyra spoke again.

"Unknown synchronization entity detected."

Huang froze instantly.

"…Entity?"

For the first time since the system awakened—

Lyra hesitated.

"Data unavailable."

Cold fear spread through Huang's chest because Lyra always had answers.

Always.

But now—

Even the system sounded uncertain.

Then suddenly—

The heartbeat stopped.

The entire battlefield froze.

For one terrifying moment, absolute silence consumed everything. No vibrations. No energy fluctuations. No warning sirens.

Nothing.

And then—

Something opened.

Huang's eyes widened violently.

Not physically.

Internally.

Deep inside the synchronization space within his mind, the endless darkness returned again. This time the vision felt clearer than before.

The massive silhouette still stood there.

Motionless.

Endless.

Humanoid.

Its body towered beyond visibility while enormous chains wrapped around portions of its form deep within the darkness itself. Countless glowing fractures spread faintly across its surface like cracks inside reality.

And this time—

Huang could see its eyes.

They were open.

The instant Huang saw them, the entire synchronization space trembled violently. Ancient pressure exploded throughout the darkness while countless fragmented whispers echoed everywhere simultaneously. The chains surrounding the massive figure vibrated faintly while invisible shockwaves spread endlessly through the void itself.

Huang immediately staggered backward internally.

"What… are you…"

The massive figure didn't move. Didn't speak. Didn't breathe.

Yet somehow—

Huang felt its attention fully focus onto him.

And then—

It smiled.

Not warmly.

Not mockingly.

Hungrily.

Huang's consciousness violently snapped back into reality.

"AAAHHH—!"

A horrifying wave of chaotic spiritual energy erupted outward from his body instantly.

BOOOOOOOOOOM.

The entire battlefield exploded beneath him. Massive cracks spread throughout Platform Seven while nearby debris launched violently into the air. Emergency stabilization barriers flickered so hard several sections nearly collapsed entirely. Students throughout the arena screamed while overwhelming pressure surged outward across Training Sector Three.

Several instructors immediately moved.

"Contain the platform!"

"Reinforcement teams move now!"

"Stabilize the barriers!"

But even they looked shaken because the pressure erupting from Huang no longer resembled ordinary cultivation.

It felt ancient.

At the center of the destruction, Huang slowly lifted his head while breathing heavily.

And for one brief horrifying moment—

His eyes weren't his own.

A faint distorted glow pulsed behind them before vanishing instantly.

Several nearby students immediately froze.

"…Did you see that?"

"His eyes…"

"What the hell is happening to him?"

Across the battlefield, Rex Hao instinctively stepped backward.

Not strategically.

Fearfully.

Because every instinct inside his body screamed the same warning now.

Run.

But before anyone could react further, Huang suddenly grabbed his head violently. Pain exploded through him again while unstable synchronization pulses surged uncontrollably throughout his body. Blood vessels darkened faintly beneath portions of his skin while chaotic spiritual energy spiraled around him violently enough to tear fragments of steel from the battlefield itself.

Inside his mind, Lyra's voice echoed urgently now.

"Critical warning. Synchronization breach beginning."

Huang's breathing stopped.

"…What does that mean?"

This time—

Lyra answered immediately.

"Something inside you is attempting to wake up completely."

Cold terror flooded Huang instantly because deep down, he already knew that thing wasn't supposed to exist.

Another pulse erupted.

THUUUUMPPP.

This time the pressure spreading from Huang became so intense several weaker students collapsed to one knee instantly. Portions of the arena walls cracked visibly while overhead lighting systems exploded one after another across the sector ceiling.

The entire training sector shook.

Far above, the observation room alarms intensified further.

"Energy output surpassing platform containment limits!"

"No—wait—it's still rising!"

"How is his body surviving this?!"

The older instructor's face darkened completely because Huang's readings were no longer behaving like a cultivator's readings.

They resembled an awakening.

Meanwhile, down below, Huang's breathing became more unstable while fragmented whispers continued echoing faintly throughout the synchronization space inside his mind. The massive chained silhouette remained motionless within the darkness, yet somehow it felt closer now.

Watching him.

Waiting.

Another crack spread across one of the chains surrounding its body.

And this time—

Huang heard the sound clearly.

CRRRRKKK.

His entire body froze because somewhere deep inside himself, he realized something horrifying.

The synchronization process wasn't creating this thing.

It was unsealing it.

Another pulse erupted immediately afterward.

And this time—

The silhouette moved.

Not fully.

Not even enough to call it motion.

But one of its fingers twitched slightly against the chains binding it.

That tiny movement alone sent a catastrophic wave of pressure through Huang's synchronization space. Endless darkness shattered like fractured glass while ancient whispers exploded throughout his consciousness.

Huang screamed instantly.

"AAAAHHHHHH—!"

Back in reality, chaotic spiritual energy detonated outward from his body again.

BOOOOOOM.

A visible shockwave erupted across Platform Seven while fragments of steel barriers tore free from the arena itself. Nearby students were forced backward while several stabilization drones exploded instantly after entering the expanding pressure field surrounding Huang.

The entire training sector shook violently.

Several instructors immediately activated defensive spiritual barriers around nearby student sections.

"Everyone move back!"

"Expand containment range!"

"DO NOT LET THAT ENERGY SPREAD!"

But despite the chaos spreading throughout the arena, the thing terrifying everyone most was Huang himself.

Because the pressure radiating from him no longer felt unstable.

It felt conscious.

At the center of the battlefield, Huang slowly lifted his head again while breathing heavily. Blood dripped steadily from his nose now while darkened veins spread faintly beneath portions of his skin. Chaotic spiritual energy spiraled around him like living smoke while fragments of broken steel floated motionlessly nearby.

And for the first time—

Huang's expression no longer looked fully aware.

Rex Hao noticed immediately.

"…Huang?"

No response came.

Inside the synchronization space, Huang remained trapped within the endless darkness while the massive chained entity stared down at him silently. The chains binding its body continued cracking slowly.

CRRRK.

CRRRK.

Every sound echoed like thunder throughout the void itself.

Huang staggered backward while panic spread throughout his chest.

"…Stay away from me…"

The entity still didn't speak. Didn't move.

Yet somehow—

Its presence alone continued crushing the darkness around it.

Then suddenly—

A voice echoed.

Not through sound.

Through existence itself.

"Finally."

Huang froze completely.

The single word carried ancient weight behind it, as though countless years of silence had been compressed into one moment.

Cold fear flooded through him instantly.

"…What are you…"

The entity's glowing eyes narrowed slightly.

And then—

Every chain binding its body trembled simultaneously.
