Enhanced by its powerful psychic abilities, the tangible Psycho Cut dealt tremendous damage to Gengar.
However, it still did not lose the ability to battle immediately, retaining only a sliver of stamina.
Silas could not help but sigh in admiration.
"Your luck is really good."
Morty gave a bitter smile. It truly had come down to luck.
As a physical Psychic-type move, Psycho Cut has a high chance of landing a critical hit. It was one of Gallade's most proficient and commonly used techniques.
Although this Gengar had decent endurance thanks to Morty's training and had managed to withstand two super-effective attacks, if that Psycho Cut had struck a vital point, Gengar would have been unable to continue battling.
This only showed that, even for a Psychic-type Pokémon, Gallade having just evolved mid-battle, still lacked complete mastery over its own power.
Otherwise, with its psychic perception, locking onto a weak point in that situation would not have been difficult.
"Use Confusion and finish it."
Silas did not intend to drag the battle out any longer and decisively ordered the final strike.
Gallade's psychic strength was most evident in augmenting its physical attacks, but against an exhausted Gengar, even a simple burst of psychic force was enough to finish the job.
Bang!
As invisible waves spread outward from Gallade's body, Gengar was blasted backward once again.
But this time, it collapsed completely.
"Gengar is unable to battle. Gallade wins.
Gym Leader Morty's three Pokémon have all lost the ability to battle. The winner of this match is Silas Alaric of Viridian City."
After a quick inspection, the referee raised his flag and announced the final result.
Clap clap clap clap!
The students watching nearby applauded enthusiastically.
They had seen many Gym battles before, but this was the first time they had witnessed Morty, the Gym Leader, suffer a complete 3–0 defeat.
The most worn-down Pokémon on Silas's side, Karrablast, had only used around half its stamina.
"Someday, I'll be that strong too!"
Many of the students silently made that vow in their hearts.
As future Trainers, how could they accept being inferior to others?
Morty stepped down from the platform, handed his three Poké Balls to a staff member for treatment, then walked over to Silas.
"Silas, you really didn't leave me any dignity at all~"
Though he said so, Morty was smiling brightly.
This was exactly how a Trainer chosen by Ho-Oh should be. If Silas had been too weak, Morty might have found it strange.
"Still that Karrablast was…?"
Remembering the oddities during battle, Morty could no longer suppress his curiosity.
Silas had no choice but to explain Karrablast's origins once more.
Morty nodded in sudden realization.
So it was not Ho-Oh's blessing after all, but the "good work" of Team Plasma.
While they spoke, the five young girls in kimonos approached under the guidance of another shrine practitioner.
"Oh right, Silas, let me introduce them. These are the next performers of Ecruteak City's Traditional Dance—Satsuki, Momo, Tamao, Koume, and Sakura. They're five sisters."
Morty slapped his forehead and enthusiastically introduced the five elegant young girls.
The so-called performers of the Traditional Dance could, in ancient times, roughly be understood as women who served Legendary Pokémon.
Besides communicating through figures like the Wise Trio, Legendary Pokémon such as Ho-Oh did not mind enjoying food prepared by humans, such as Pokéblocks.
At times like that, kind-hearted and pure women were chosen to present offerings to them.
As for why such requirements existed, Silas admitted he did not really understand.
Religion always came with strange ideas.
Nowadays, however, their main role was promoting legends such as Ho-Oh's through performance and dance.
The five girls all looked curiously at the handsome young Trainer before them.
"So this is the Trainer chosen by Ho-Oh? He really is amazing!"
Silas felt overwhelmed by their burning gazes.
"Um… Morty, is there anything else? If not, I'll be taking my leave first."
Morty calmly adjusted his scarf.
"Ah, nothing else. But I don't have the Fog Badge on me right now, so I need to go fetch it. I'll have to trouble you to wait a little while."
Silas stared at him speechlessly.
Couldn't he have come up with a better excuse?
The Fog Badge was clearly hanging from Morty's scarf the entire time. It wasn't as if Silas were blind.
"Satsuki, take good care of Silas while I'm gone."
Morty winked at the five kimono girls, then hurriedly ran out of the battlefield.
"Silas, may I pet your Vulpix? It's so cute!"
"Silas, your Gallade was so cool just now! Is it a boy?"
"Silas, I heard you discovered two of Eevee's evolutions, right? We'd love to raise Eevee in the future too~"
"Silas…"
Perhaps because Silas looked easygoing, once Morty left, the five girls' cheerful chatter instantly filled the entire battlefield.
Silas answered question after question until he felt dizzy.
There was no chance they were getting to pet Vulpix. The little one was currently tucked inside his collar, grooming its fur, and Silas could already feel an icy chill against his chest.
As for Gallade being cool, did that even need to be asked? Silas thought the girl who asked was adorably silly.
But raising Eevee was actually a good idea.
"As for Eevee, Professor Oak's Laboratory may make new discoveries in the future. They'd probably be perfect for your performances."
Silas said so casually.
If he remembered correctly, when Ash later came to Ecruteak City, he also met these five sisters, and they each had Eevee evolutions with them.
And since Eevee's evolutions covered many different types, they were indeed ideal for performances, lightning, rain, flames, illusions, and more.
For ordinary people, the Evolution Stones required for Eevee's evolutions might be a problem.
But for these five sisters, it was nothing.
After all, the core of the Traditional Dance was the word tradition itself. Their family history was nearly as old as the founding of Ecruteak City.
If the tradition had not passed only to daughters and not sons, their family might have become even more influential.
Even so, the men of their family were spread across many regions and businesses. For example, in Hoenn, there was the Mauville Holdings Company, said to rival the Devon Corporation.
Apparently, they were doing quite well.
"It's just that Uncle Raizo argued with the family again because of work. I wonder when he'll come back."
"Yeah, and I wonder how little brother Takao is doing in Rustboro City. Maybe we should visit him sometime."
"Sure, sure! Oh right, I also heard…"
As the five girls chatted among themselves, the focus quickly shifted away from Silas.
Silas let out a sigh of relief.
Soon, Morty's figure appeared at the main entrance. Seeing everyone chatting pleasantly, he smiled and raised the Badge in his hand toward Silas.
The Fog Badge had a blue-purple color scheme, with two white markings resembling eyes, giving it a distinctly Ghost-like appearance.
Vulpix poked its little head out from Silas's clothes and curiously stared at it.
Silas took the Badge from Morty and casually handed it to the little Pokémon.
"Here. This is the spoils of victory for you and your partners."
The moment Vulpix heard that, it quickly grabbed the Badge with its tiny paws and burrowed back into Silas's clothes.
This absolutely couldn't be lost.
The older team members had told it that if these things were properly preserved, they could later be exchanged for tasty food and fun things.
Ignoring Vulpix's antics, Silas chatted briefly with Morty before leaving the Ecruteak Gym.
