"What do you mean?"
The people around them were confused for a moment.
Silas smiled and pulled out a sparkling pale-cyan stone from his spatial backpack.
"It means that if a second-stage Pokémon is going to battle a third-stage Pokémon, then in that regard, we should keep up with the pace too."
"Evolve—Kirlia!"
With a swing of his arm, the stone traced a graceful arc through the air and landed accurately in front of Kirlia.
"Kirli~"
Kirlia looked at the pale-cyan stone floating before it under the control of its Psychic power. A trace of excitement shone in the red eye hidden beneath its side bangs.
Slowly, it reached out with both hands and touched the stone.
The light of evolution gradually enveloped Kirlia's entire body.
"So it's planning to evolve into Gallade? That's rather uncommon."
Morty watched the scene and sighed in admiration.
Silas shrugged.
"Probably because this kid has spent too much time with Blaziken, so it prefers close-quarters combat.
Compared to Gardevoir, it wants to evolve into Gallade more."
"I see." Morty smiled and nodded. "Then it's fortunate this child is male."
Unlike Gardevoir, whose male and female ratio is evenly split, Gallade is a species that can only be male, and it can only evolve from a male Kirlia.
If Silas's Kirlia had been female, then it would have been destined to evolve only into Gardevoir.
Among Pokémon families with branching evolutions, it was common for environmental influences to lead them down different evolutionary paths. As Trainers, their duty was to support and respect the Pokémon's own choice.
Of course, in most cases, that choice did not conflict with the Trainer's own wishes.
After all, when a Pokémon grows up living alongside its Trainer and companions from a young age, the form it longs for can usually be predicted from the start.
As for the Dawn Stone needed for Kirlia to evolve into Gallade, Silas felt that in front of Steven, such a thing was hardly worth mentioning.
As an Evolution Stone, even one of exceptionally high quality wasn't particularly expensive.
Back when he traded for the Rainbow Branch, Silas had already included it on his list.
The Dawn Stone's relatively low price mainly came from its extremely narrow range of use and limited practicality.
Among all currently known Pokémon, only male Kirlia evolving into Gallade and female Snorunt evolving into Froslass required a Dawn Stone.
And for those gender-restricted evolutions, the more popular choices among Trainers were usually the unrestricted branches—Gardevoir and Glalie.
On one hand, those evolutions were already strong enough without requiring an Evolution Stone.
On the other hand, Gardevoir needed no explanation, while compared to Froslass, Glalie was generally considered kinder and more loyal.
With its added Ghost typing, Froslass had long been surrounded by rumors that it was the reincarnation of women who perished on snowy mountains and that it liked to feast on frozen male souls.
That legend alone was enough to make many people keep their distance.
Because there wasn't much market demand, and because Dawn Stones often formed alongside other elemental Evolution Stones in mining veins, their average price was only around that of a decent held item.
Even with the label of "high quality," it still wasn't snatched up at outrageous prices like premium elemental stones.
As they spoke, Kirlia's slender body gradually stretched taller within the light of evolution.
"Lade."
The white glow faded, and a tall, lean Pokémon appeared before everyone.
Its lower body was white, with broad rounded hips and powerful legs.
Its torso was slim, colored green on the upper half and white below.
Sharp red protrusions jutted from its chest and back. Its arms curved like hooked blades, with retractable sword-like edges at the elbows.
Its head resembled a gladiator's helmet, with a white face and pale-cyan crest, while spike-like fins extended from both sides of its face.

"Lade!"
The newly evolved Gallade, formerly Kirlia raised one arm, and the blade-like elbow edges gleamed with a chilling light.
Its eyes were full of calm composure.
Silas looked on in satisfaction.
Truthfully, he had never minded whether Kirlia evolved into Gardevoir or Gallade.
Either one was an exceptionally powerful Pokémon.
And in the real world, unlike the restrictions of Generation IV games, Gallade was in some ways actually stronger than Gardevoir.
Just looking at its move list after evolving made that clear.
It had mastered a full 62 moves.
And that wasn't even its limit.
Not only was Gallade exceptionally skilled at engaging enemies in fierce close combat with its blade-like arms, it was also one of the Pokémon with the widest movepools.
According to incomplete statistics, its total learnable move list exceeded 140 moves, nearly double that of its alternate evolution, Gardevoir.
One had to remember that aside from Mew, which could learn almost every move, and Smeargle, which could use nearly all moves through its exclusive move Sketch, there were probably only a few Pokémon like Ditto with access to so many techniques.
And Ditto could only use specific moves after transforming, making it completely different from Gallade, which naturally mastered such a wide variety of attacks.
Because of this, besides being called the Noble Knight and the Psychic Fighter, in certain regions and among some Trainers it had another title.
The Martial God.
"Then let me see your strength now, Gallade."
With a thought, Silas closed Zero's status panel.
"Teleport — Night Slash!"
"Gallade!"
Blue-violet waves swept across the battlefield.
Morty looked around sharply, but Gallade had completely vanished.
"Gengar, stay alert! Dodge, and prepare to use Mean Look to seal its Teleport!"
Floating in the air, Gengar nodded solemnly.
When battling Psychic-types, figuring out how to counter Teleport was one of the first problems to solve.
As a Ghost-type specialist whose type naturally clashed with Psychic-types, Morty had plenty of experience in that regard.
"Mean Look can do that too?"
Even Silas was surprised.
This was a relatively uncommon move whose normal effect was to prevent the opponent from fleeing battle.
Some powerful Pokémon could indeed use it to heavily restrict an opponent's movements, preventing escape and even limiting evasion.
But Silas had always assumed it would not affect Teleport.
Just as he was thinking, Gallade suddenly appeared behind Gengar, its elbow blades shining with an irritating brown-black glow.
Horizontal slash. Vertical chop. Diagonal cut. Rising strike...
Though it had only just evolved into Gallade, its unique swordsmanship seemed engraved into its genes.
In a blur too fast to follow, Gallade struck Gengar repeatedly and sent it flying.
"Gengar!!"
Gengar cried out in pain.
Dark-type attacks were not only troublesome for Psychic-types, they were equally effective against Ghost-types.
But as Gengar flew backward, two black beams shot from its eyes and wrapped tightly around Gallade's feet.
Gallade instinctively struggled, only to realize it had been pinned in place.
"I see. It's not just Mean Look, it's also controlling the shadow."
Silas glanced downward and immediately saw the trick behind Morty's move.
Only a Gengar could likely pull off something like this.
Rather than Mean Look alone, it was Gallade's own shadow restraining its body.
As expected of a Ghost-type expert, Morty had developed Gengar's natural traits to an extreme level.
Even a Gym-use Gengar could wield such a strange technique.
Unfortunately for him, his opponent was Gallade.
While close-range contact moves were now difficult to use effectively, ranged attacks were unaffected.
Silas swung his hand forward.
"Gallade, use Confusion to pull Gengar over here, then use Hypnosis!"
Gallade crossed its blade-arms before its chest, its body radiating intense blue-violet psychic light.
Gengar, which had only just crashed into the wall, was immediately dragged back the way it came.
Gallade's psychic power might be weaker than Gardevoir's, but that comparison was against the queen of Psychic-types herself.
Among all Psychic Pokémon, Gallade's psychic ability still ranked near the top.
Morty shouted,
"Gengar, use Phantom Force!"
Whoosh!
As Psychic and Ghost energy collided, Gengar vanished instantly just like Gallade had earlier.
"Catch it, then use Psycho Cut."
Silas gave the order calmly.
He trusted Gallade's judgment completely.
After a brief silence.
"Gallade!"
The pale green crest on Gallade's head suddenly flashed white.
A sharp blade of psychic energy shot toward an empty patch of ground nearby.
Everyone looked confused, then Gengar's body suddenly appeared directly in the path of the attack.
"Gengar!!"
Caught completely off guard, Gengar had not expected Gallade to predict its movement route. It was struck head-on by Psycho Cut and cried out once more in agony.
