I woke up and all I felt was my tummy twisting,I've worked in not one or two places and I've never felt this nervous on my first day of work,I arranged my collar one more time while looking at the full length mirror, I was putting on a , white inner shirt, well ironed black blazers ,and well ironed work trousers and stilettos.
I headed down stairs.
I hung my bag on my shoulders clutching on it tightly and nervously waiting for my cab driver to pick me up, work starts by 8am but i wanted to arrive on time so i had called the cab earlier .in few minutes the cab arrived and they drove to my new work place which might drive me crazy if not careful.
As i entered the building,it felt different now.
Not unfamiliar but different , like something had already begun between me and it.
Between me and some one .
"Good morning", the receptionist greeted warmly.
I smiled politely."Good morning "
As I signed in,I could feel eyes on her ,not hostile but just curious. Whispers followed me maybe they are just gossiping within themselves not like I care .
I moved through the lobby to my department .
I headed to HR once I got in, after waving greetings to everyone i saw courtesy.
By 8:05 am , i was already at my assigned desk.
My workstation was neat,organized and modern .
I exhaled softly.
"You can do this , i whispered to myself .
The Elevator doors open at the executive floor and Rosetta Ashford my Rose stepped in,just by her appearance the office that was a once a little bit noisy with colleagues discussing at every corner instantly became quite,
I could smell her cologne from here I thought to myself .i could hear others greeting her from the top floor where i can literally view and see her clearly since it's demarcated with a clear glass, i saw her walk majestically into her office and shut the door.i quickly stopped looking and turned back to my desk ,I wasn't doing anything yet but now she my crush is here she will call me in soon.
The telephone on my desk rang few minutes later and it was Miss Mary Rose's secretary calling me to inform me that the boss wants to see me in her office.
I quickly branched to the restroom and reapplied my lipstick while admiring myself on the mirror certainly uncalled for ..before heading up to her office.
I knocked while super tensed and I heard her voice from behind the door asking me to come. I took a deep breathe, opened the door,stepped in and was finally standing in front of her she makes my heart skip "Good morning Miss Stephen"good morning ma'am I replied trying to not keep eye contact, I hope she doesn't figure out my mischief.."Miss Stephen I wanted to personally welcome you to our Enterprise and I'll hope you find here habitable"Rose added
Of course Ma'am the environment is conducive and I'm glad I was given the opportunity to work here thank you.
You're welcome, she replied and also asked me get back to work .
As I climbed down the stairs from her office my heart felt like it'll jump out of chest and I was so glad it didn't .
I got to my desk and within a minute a young guy approached me,
"Hello miss stephen"
"Hi " I replied
"You're welcome" he said with a bright smile.
Thanks,I said smiling back at him
"My name is Joe,you can call me JJ" he said with a weird grin while gesturing his hands towards me .
I shook his hands and he held on for few weird seconds smiling ,my name is Julie, I said while quickly withdrawing my hands from the awkward hand shake.
"Relax and make your self comfortable, if you have any problems my desk is over there " he said while pointing to the adjacent desk near my desk.Sure, thanks I said to him,and he left.
I don't know but somehow I felt someone was staring, and the moment I looked up the stairs I saw her looking.
I don't know what came over me but I foolishly waved at her,but suddenly her window blinds shut. Maybe she didn't see me ?
