"What happened, Peter?" Madeline asked, standing with the others.
While Mary, Gwen, Liz, Reiran, Rias, and May stood with calm expressions, Madeline and Gale were visibly confused, waiting for Peter to speak.
"Haah, here it goes." Peter said after taking a deep breath, "I am Spider-Man!" As soon as the words left his mouth, Madeline and Gale froze, their mouths hanging open in shock. To add to their astonishment, Peter shot a web from his wrists, sticking it to the ceiling, further proving his claim.
"Y-You are Spider-Man!" Both Madeline and Gale exclaimed simultaneously, their eyes fixed on the web clinging to the ceiling. The sheer disbelief on their faces was evident. They had never imagined that Peter would reveal such a secret, and even though they were staring at the proof, it was still hard to process.
Then Madeline noticed something. She and Gale were the only ones reacting so dramatically, as if struck by lightning. She turned to the others and asked, "Wait! Why are you all so calm?" As soon as she said this, it clicked for both her and Gale, "Don't tell me… you all knew about this! Right?" She asked, her gaze sweeping over the group.
Gale, too, turned to her sister and asked, "Sister, you knew about this too?"
Seeing her mother and sister's reactions, Mary took a deep breath and said, "That's right. Not only me, but everyone here, except for you two, knew about it." She paused, then added, "But there's more to it." As she said this, she glanced at Gwen and Liz.
The three of them exchanged nods, and then, in unison, they leaped into the air, sticking to the ceiling like spiders.
Madeline and Gale were once again stunned into silence. Gale was the first to find her voice, "Sister, you have superpowers too!"
"Yes, that's right." Mary confirmed as she, Liz, and Gwen gracefully descended from the ceiling, "I am the Red Spider." Mary revealed.
"I am the Ghost Spider." Gwen announced.
"And I am Spider-Girl." Liz declared with a confident smile.
Hearing all this, Madeline and Gale gulped, their throats dry with shock. They still couldn't believe that not only was Peter a superhero, but Mary was too—and on top of that, the two new girls they were meeting for the first time were also superheroes. It was all too much to take in.
"Haah!" Madeline exhaled deeply, trying to steady herself, "Is there anything else you're hiding? And who are they?" She asked, pointing at Reiran and Rias. Then she turned to May, her eyes narrowing, "And my dear friend, are you a superhero too?"
May avoided her gaze, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. "Ah, no." May replied hesitantly, looking anywhere but at Madeline, who was staring at her like a cat eyeing a mouse.
"About Rias and Reiran, I'll explain soon." Peter interjected, drawing Madeline and Gale's attention back to him, "But right now, there's still one more surprise you two should know."
Madeline and Gale looked at him with bated breath, bracing themselves for what was coming next.
"Well, you see." Peter began, "Aside from Mary-Liz, Gwen, May, and Rias… they're also my girlfriends. Or, you could say, my women." Peter dropped the bombshell, and the room fell into a dead silence.
Several seconds passed before Madeline finally reacted.
"What?!" Madeline exclaimed, her voice rising in disbelief, "H-How is that possible? How could you do that?" She looked at her daughter and the others with a mix of confusion and concern, "And what do you mean May is your girlfriend? Isn't she your aunt?"
"May, what is the meaning of this? And Mary, how are you okay with all of this?" Madeline's voice was filled with a whirlwind of emotions. First, she had learned that Peter and her daughter had superpowers, which was already hard enough to digest. Now, she was being told that Peter had multiple romantic partners, including May.
"Madeline, what Peter said is true." May said softly as she stepped closer to Madeline, placing her hands on her shoulders, "I am his woman now."
"Yes, Mom." Mary added, taking Madeline's hand, "I know it's hard for you and Gale to process all of this, but believe me, I and the other girls are completely fine with it." She glanced at Peter, her expression warm, "Peter is a wonderful man, and you know that too."
"Yeah, but what will people say? You know this isn't normal! The world will talk about it, question you all!" Madeline voiced her concerns. While she wanted her daughter's happiness, she couldn't help but worry about the societal repercussions.
After spending so much time with Peter, Madeline could see that he was a good man—almost perfect, in fact. But it was still difficult for her to accept that he had multiple partners, including her own daughter.
"The world will only talk about the weak, but I am different. We are different!" Peter said firmly, stepping closer to Madeline and locking eyes with her, "I don't care what people say or what the world thinks. They won't be able to do anything about it. I won't let them."
Hearing Peter's words, Rias couldn't help but smile, 'He's perfect.' She thought to herself.
Madeline, too, could see the sincerity in Peter's eyes. There was no hesitation in his voice, no doubt in his words. He meant every word he said.
"Mom, don't worry. I'm happy." Mary said with a reassuring smile. Seeing her daughter's genuine happiness, Madeline sighed and allowed a small smile to creep onto her face.
"Haah, alright." Madeline said, finally relenting. She then turned to Gale, worried that her younger daughter might be overwhelmed. But to her surprise, Gale seemed completely unfazed, "Gale, are you okay?"
Hearing her mother's voice, Gale looked up and replied, "I'm fine, Mom. If Sister is happy, then there's nothing to worry about. I know Peter will keep her happy." She glanced at Peter, her expression calm and accepting.
"Thanks, Gale." Mary said, touched by her sister's support. But little did Mary know, Gale was smiling inwardly.
'Hehe, looks like I can be with Peter now too.' Gale thought to herself, her mind already racing with possibilities.
