Chapter 16 - The Rainy Day Café

Rain returned to the town before noon.

Not violent rain.

Just steady silver droplets falling endlessly from gray skies.

The kind of weather that made people tired.

Quiet.

Sleepy.

And strangely emotional.

Which meant Moonbean Café became dangerously comfortable.

"…I'm never leaving."

Lina lay across two chairs dramatically while holding a warm cup of coffee.

Ren stared blankly from behind the counter.

"You said that three cups ago."

"And I still mean it."

"You don't even live here."

"That's a technical issue."

Serena calmly turned a page in her paperwork nearby.

"Please don't encourage illegal residency."

"Nobody asked the terrifying paperwork woman."

"That title somehow keeps getting longer."

The café atmosphere today felt softer than usual.

Rain tapped gently against the windows.

The fireplace crackled warmly.

Fresh bread cooled near the kitchen counter while sweet berry milk scents lingered through the room.

Even the customers spoke more quietly today.

Rainy days did that.

People naturally slowed down.

Ren quietly brewed another cup while observing the café.

Business had become surprisingly stable already.

Regular customers arrived almost daily now.

Adventurers after guild work.

Merchants during breaks.

Even town guards occasionally stopped by "for investigation purposes."

Mostly for cookies.

Boris had also started bringing visitors intentionally.

Which Ren still considered a dangerous business strategy.

The bell above the door rang softly.

A drenched traveler stepped inside immediately afterward.

Heavy cloak.

Mud-covered boots.

Completely exhausted expression.

The man paused near the entrance as warm air and coffee aromas surrounded him.

Then visibly relaxed.

"…By the gods."

Lina pointed dramatically from her chair.

"Another one saved by beans."

The traveler looked deeply confused.

"…What?"

"Don't worry about it," Ren said immediately.

"Everyone stopped trying to understand her days ago."

"That's rude."

"It's accurate."

The traveler quietly sat near the fireplace with a tired sigh.

Rainwater dripped from his cloak onto the floor.

Fina immediately hurried over carrying towels carefully in both arms.

"H-Here," she said softly.

The traveler blinked in surprise.

"…For me?"

Fina nodded shyly.

The man accepted the towel slowly.

"…Thank you."

Ren noticed it again.

Fina had changed a lot.

Not completely.

She still spoke softly.

Still hesitated sometimes.

But now she approached people instead of hiding from them.

Moonbean Café was healing her little by little.

The thought warmed his chest unexpectedly.

Then suddenly—

THUNDER.

The windows rattled softly.

Several customers jumped.

Lina nearly dropped her coffee.

"…The sky is attacking."

"That's called weather," Kael replied.

"Hostile weather."

Ren chuckled quietly while preparing hot soup for several tables.

Rainy days increased food orders dramatically.

People wanted warmth.

Comfort.

Something to chase away the cold.

And honestly—

He understood completely.

Back on Earth, rainy days were exhausting.

Crowded trains.

Wet clothes.

Long work shifts.

But here?

Rain transformed the café into something peaceful.

Almost magical.

The warm lights reflected softly against the windows while steam drifted lazily through the air.

Conversations became quieter.

Gentler.

Like everyone unconsciously relaxed together.

Then the traveler near the fireplace suddenly spoke.

"…This place reminds me of home."

The café grew briefly silent.

Not awkward.

Thoughtful.

Ren glanced toward him.

The man stared quietly into his coffee cup.

"I've been traveling for months," he continued softly.

"Most towns feel temporary."

His tired eyes wandered slowly around Moonbean Café.

"But this place feels… familiar somehow."

Lina smiled faintly.

"Yeah."

Even Serena looked thoughtful at those words.

Because honestly—

Many people probably felt the same already.

Moonbean Café was becoming more than a café.

It was becoming a resting place.

Somewhere tired people could breathe for a little while.

Then suddenly—

[Ding.]

A system notification appeared.

"…The café has weather buffs now?"

"What?" Mira asked immediately.

"Nothing."

Everyone in the café sighed together.

"You know," Boris muttered while drinking coffee, "at this point your mysterious behavior just feels normal."

"That's somehow more concerning."

Another smaller notification appeared beneath the first.

[New Seasonal Recipe Available.]

Cinnamon Rain Latte

Ren blinked slowly.

"…Oh."

Now that sounded dangerous.

Lina immediately noticed his expression.

"That's the recipe face."

"The what?"

"You get a weird sparkle in your eyes whenever food happens."

"That sentence was painful."

"Am I wrong?"

Ren opened his mouth.

Then closed it again.

"…Fair enough."

Several hours later—

The smell of cinnamon filled Moonbean Café.

Warm milk.

Sweet spice.

Fresh coffee.

The new drink spread through the café like emotional warfare.

Mira nearly melted after one sip.

"This tastes like rainy day happiness."

"That's becoming a concerning pattern," Serena muttered.

Even Gareth quietly ordered a second cup without explanation.

And the exhausted traveler near the fireplace?

He looked close to tears after finishing his drink.

"…I might stay in this town," he admitted weakly.

Lina pointed triumphantly.

"THE BEANS CLAIM ANOTHER SOUL."

"Please stop saying it like a cult ritual," Ren begged.

"No."

Outside, rain continued falling softly over the quiet town.

But inside Moonbean Café—

Warmth, laughter, and the smell of cinnamon coffee chased the cold away completely.

And little by little—

The tiny café continued becoming a place people never wanted to leave.
