Yohana pulled again, her fingers gripping the brass handle, but the bottommost drawer refused to budge. It was firmly locked.
A sharp breath escaped her lips as she glanced back at the heavy wooden door of the study. Time was running out. She knew she had to be quick before the maid realized she had been deceived, or worse, before Percy returned.
Looking around the desk for a hairpin or a letter opener to force the lock, her hands shook slightly. She refused to leave empty-handed.
There had to be a reason why this specific drawer was sealed tight while the others were left open.
Crouching down, she inspected the keyhole, searching her mind for where Percy might have hidden the specific key to this drawer.
"Gosh, I've not done something like this before," she muttered in annoyance, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Reaching up, she pulled a sturdy hairpin from the back of her head, letting a few strands of hair fall loose.
