Chapter 181: Lulu Is Discharged
It was moving day, but in fact, Yang Jing didn't have much stuff—just a box of clothes, some skincare products, a few pairs of boots, and some daily necessities like a toothbrush, a cup, and a towel.
In the end, everything fit into two big boxes that went straight into the trunk. Yang Fei, who came to help, at best carried a few of Yang Jing's bags. Yang Jing didn't have many other things, but she was definitely a bag addict. For the same style, she had to buy several colors. Luckily, they weren't expensive; if she were like Yang Fei, who only bought LV, Dior, or Versace, Yang Jing would've gone bankrupt.
She looked around the room full of bags, reluctant to part with them, but in the end, she gritted her teeth and left with just over a dozen.
Zhang Yang noticed that when they left, Yang Fei gazed at the empty villa, lost in thought.
Yang Jing was assigned to room 206, saying she was twenty-six, so the number matched. Coincidentally, that room faced Zhang Yang's 202.
There were already quite a few beautiful tenants in the villa. On the second floor were Zhang Yang and Xu Danlu, as well as Yang Jing. On the third floor were Xi Chen Jinglan, who had moved from the fourth floor to 301, Qiao Xier in 302, and Tian Tian in 303. The fourth floor had the most people—Xu Dantong in 401, Gao Qi in 402, Liu Zixuan in 403, Xu Danying in 404, and Li Jennie in 405. The fifth floor only had two guest rooms, one occupied by Yang Fei; the rest were entertainment facilities.
Outside the villa, because the headquarters of Nuwa Company was under construction, the environment wasn't great—dust everywhere, machinery roaring. Fortunately, Zhang Yang and Zhou Lunfa had anticipated this, so they demolished the old wall and, per Zhang Yang's request, built a solid ten-meter-high wall around the villa.
The villa itself was also being renovated. The enclosed area had expanded more than threefold, enough to build two more identical villas. Zhang Yang even had Zhou Lunfa make a large swimming pool.
And a parking lot, leaving enough space for the future installation of the Level 1 Security Defense System.
It was foreseeable that the living environment wouldn't be ideal until the Nuwa headquarters was completed. Fortunately, the villa's original design was fully sealed, with excellent soundproofing, so the residents weren't disturbed.
Nuwa Company's temporary headquarters had also been confirmed—a whole office building.
It was only about five or six hundred meters from the villa, located beside the Meining University branch campus, called Meixing Tower. The building was twenty-eight stories high, currently owned by the state. The city government leased it to Nuwa Company at a low annual rent of one million for twenty years, basically gifting Zhang Yang the right to use a skyscraper.
The building was already well decorated; it just needed some reorganization before they could move in.
More importantly, behind Meixing Tower was a residential area, and after coordination by the city government—
Over a hundred apartments were vacated for Nuwa Company employees to live in.
Everything was ready; all that was left was for Nuwa Company to officially begin operations.
Of course, Zhang Yang wasn't in a rush. The Rehabilitation Center had already started operating, and though the staffing wasn't yet complete, things were running decently.
As for Nuwa Pharmaceuticals, it would take time before official operations could begin—not to mention the issue of factory facilities.
Even the company's structure and personnel weren't yet complete, and before mass production, they'd need to pass a series of certifications.
Such as GMP pharmaceutical quality standards, ISO 9001 quality system certification, environmental certification, and so on—all things Zhang Yang wasn't skilled in, nor could his current staff handle.
Even Nanxing One was only approved by special authorization, and that approval only lasted one year. When it came time for mass production, everything would have to be standardized.
Zhang Yang didn't plan to stress over future company operations—someone else would take care of it, either Lulu or Qiao Xier. As for who they'd hire, that was up to them. After all, Meining University had a whole MBA program full of professional managers.
Right now, what really frustrated Zhang Yang wasn't company management, but his system points and the Capture Star Mender Mission.
His system points were negative thirty-one. He could only sigh at himself for being a spendthrift. Just a few days ago, he had over a hundred points. Once you surpassed a hundred, the system gifted one point daily. But before he even enjoyed that perk for a full day, he'd already gone into the negatives.
Today was system refresh day. If he was still in the negatives, not only would he lose his chance to gain system stat points, but he'd also waste the free Star Mender detection opportunity for the month.
Still, it wasn't the end of the world. His first main mission was to find four Star Menders; he'd already found two, and there was still plenty of time. Even if he didn't find more soon, it wasn't a big deal.
What was frustrating was that with negative points, he couldn't get stat points. Luck Points were insanely useful—for killing enemies, making money, and picking up girls alike.
Last time, that single extra Luck Point had let him strip Gao Qi's clothes off in a card game…
Early that morning, all the beauties in the villa had gone out, leaving Zhang Yang alone. Holding a pen, he pondered for a long time how to earn points. No matter what, he had to get back to positive numbers first—otherwise, he couldn't even ask the system a question.
But no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't find a way. Points were something you couldn't force. Previously, luck had brought him several hidden missions that easily earned him over a hundred points. But now that he was in the negatives, he had no clue what to do.
After thinking for a while and finding no solution, Zhang Yang gave up helplessly. He decided to head to the hospital to pick up Lulu—she was being discharged today.
She'd already mostly recovered, but Zhang Yang hadn't felt reassured, insisting she wait until he returned to Meining before he'd pick her up. Unfortunately, he'd run into assassins, delaying the visit until today.
If he didn't pick her up today, she'd probably go crazy.
As he neared the hospital, he got a call from an unknown number. Not many people knew Zhang Yang's number—and those who did—
Were all saved in his contacts, so he instinctively declined. There were too many scammers these days—it was probably just another scam call.
But moments later, the same number called again. Zhang Yang frowned and answered.
"Zhang Yang, right?" It was a man's voice, flat and slightly hoarse, with the tone of someone interrogating a suspect.
Zhang Yang thought for a moment and asked, "Since you know my name, just say what you want. What do you want?"
"Convenient to meet?"
"Not convenient!" Zhang Yang glanced ahead. The road was a bit jammed, so he slowed down.
The man hadn't expected Zhang Yang to refuse so bluntly and was left speechless.
Of course, Zhang Yang didn't know that just fifty meters behind his Range Rover, a black Hongqi sedan was tailing him at a steady distance.
There were three people in the car.
A driver, a buzz-cut man with a square face and sharp eyes in the passenger seat—clearly a guard—holding the phone, and in the back seat sat another man in plain clothes: Major General Qiao Yunfeng, director of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission's Aviation High-Temperature Alloy Research Center.
General Qiao hadn't been home for a long time, and now he finally had a rare five-day leave.
But those five days were busier than not having a break—flying from place to place, and barely two days after getting home, the old man sent him off to Meining.
His main mission was, of course, to meet the man who might become his future son-in-law—Zhang Yang. Ye Jing had told him Zhang Yang was interesting, a lot like himself in his youth, just a bit more flirtatious.
The old man thought Zhang Yang was ambitious and capable, and most importantly, he'd inspired his precious granddaughter to do so much for him. That wasn't simple.
So this time, his main purpose was to see for himself what kind of man could earn such praise from the most important people in his life.
Of course, he hadn't come unprepared. Someone had already sent Zhang Yang's file to his office. A quick glance left a good impression, and after hearing his daughter constantly praise Zhang Yang's genius with Nanxing One and Lingguang One, Qiao Yunfeng was stunned.
He couldn't believe someone so young could pull that off. He thought his daughter was exaggerating to win his approval—but after Professor Shangguan Hong personally confirmed it, he was speechless. What kind of monster could do that?
Since then, he'd been quietly gathering information through various channels, and what he found shocked him even more. Everything Ye Jing said was true—the guy was a total playboy, with at least three or four girlfriends, one of whom was his own runaway daughter.
The Qiao family's noble young lady had ignored countless rich heirs and elites, only to fight other women for this one man. Either his daughter had gone crazy, or this man was unbelievably impressive.
He trusted his daughter wasn't crazy. So now he wanted to see just how impressive this guy was.
Honestly, his impression of Zhang Yang wasn't bad. Flirtatious? Sure—but he'd been even worse in his youth. It wasn't until he met Ye Jing, that fierce woman, who chased off all the others and trapped him in marriage. And even now, he was a perfectly obedient husband.
Being flirtatious wasn't scary; lacking character was. He mainly wanted to see if this brat was worthy of being his son-in-law—and maybe check if he was even human. After all, how could someone so young come up with two world-defying inventions? Even Einstein, Newton, or Nobel couldn't pull that off.
But this brat actually dared ignore him!
"Sir, should we identify ourselves? He's kind of famous now—probably thought we were spam calls." The guard holding the phone asked.
Up ahead, Zhang Yang had already parked at the hospital entrance.
Qiao Yunfeng thought for a moment, then shook his head. "Forget it. Follow him. Let's see what he's up to."
Revealing his identity now would feel beneath him, Qiao Yunfeng thought.
Zhang Yang entered the hospital. Qiao Yunfeng leaned back and closed his eyes to rest. He didn't know how much time had passed before his guard woke him.
"Sir, he's out! Zhang Yang's coming out with a woman—should be Xu Danlu… uh, and the young lady too."
"All three got in the car. They seem really close. Could it be…"
Qiao Yunfeng snapped fully awake from his nap. That brat!
