For a long moment, the battlefield was silent.
The endless roars of Corruption Beasts had vanished.
The clash of steel had faded.
Only the wind drifted across the valley, carrying away the last traces of black ash left behind by the fallen monsters.
Sam slowly lowered his sword and let out a deep breath.
"We did it."
Around him, Base 101 stood victorious.
Ben leaned on one of his axes, laughing between heavy breaths.
"I was hoping for a bigger fight."
George rested the Hammer of the Forge on his shoulder and grinned.
"I think we scared them away."
Leon calmly wiped the blood from his daggers before sliding them back into their sheaths.
"They never stood a chance."
Zora smiled as she dismissed the last of her magic.
"No casualties."
"Mission complete."
A deep rumble echoed through the valley.
The massive gates of the Elf Kingdom slowly began to open.
Thousands of Elf soldiers lined the road leading into the city.
As Sam and Base 101 approached, every soldier struck the butt of their spears against the stone in perfect unison.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The sound echoed across the kingdom.
Then the citizens appeared.
Men.
Women.
Children.
They filled the streets, cheering as the defenders walked through the gates.
"They saved us!"
"That's the commander!"
"Base 101!"
"I've never seen humans and goblins fight together like that!"
Flowers rained from balconies overhead.
Children waved excitedly as the Goblin Soldiers marched proudly through the capital.
Ben scratched the back of his head.
"...This is embarrassing."
George laughed loudly.
"Soak it in!"
"You earned it."
At the center of the capital stood a magnificent palace carved from living white trees.
Golden vines wrapped around towering pillars, while glowing crystals illuminated every hallway.
Inside the royal throne room, dozens of generals and high-ranking nobles waited.
At the end of the chamber sat the Elf King.
His silver hair flowed over emerald robes, and a golden crown rested upon his head.
As Sam entered, the king rose from his throne.
The entire room fell silent.
"You are Commander Sam of Base 101."
Sam nodded respectfully.
"I am."
The king stepped down from the throne.
"You and your companions have saved countless lives today."
"For that..."
"The Elf Kingdom owes you a debt that can never truly be repaid."
He bowed.
The entire throne room gasped.
One by one...
The generals bowed as well.
Then every soldier in the room followed.
Even the nobles lowered their heads.
Ben's eyes widened.
"The king..."
"He bowed to us."
George whispered,
"Didn't expect that."
The Elf King smiled.
"Strength deserves respect."
"And today..."
"You earned ours."
One elderly noble stepped forward, his expression uncertain.
"Your Majesty..."
"They fought well."
"But they are outsiders."
"And they command monsters."
"They cannot be fully trusted."
Several nobles nodded in agreement.
Before anyone else could speak, the captain of the city guard stepped forward.
"I fought beside them."
"I watched Base 101 defend our walls."
"I trust them with my life."
One by one, more soldiers stepped forward.
"So do I."
"They never abandoned a single position."
"They saved my unit."
"They fought harder than anyone."
The noble quietly stepped back.
The room had already made its decision.
The Elf King turned back toward Sam.
"The people have spoken."
"You will always be welcomed as friends of the Elf Kingdom."
Without warning...
A familiar chime echoed inside every member of Base 101's mind.

The light consumed them.
The throne room vanished.
The cheers disappeared.
The Elf Kingdom faded into nothingness.
A familiar breeze brushed across Sam's face.
He opened his eyes.
The towering walls of Base 101 stood before him once more.
Soldiers stopped what they were doing.
Citizens stared in disbelief.
"They're back!"
"They cleared the dungeon!"
Cheers erupted throughout the base as Base 101 returned home victorious.
Sam smiled.
Home at last.
But deep inside, he knew this victory was only the first step on a much longer journey.
