The lower wall cabinet did not open when Fang looked at it.
It waited until Dr Sane approached.
That alone made Fang uneasy, because the archive seemed increasingly willing to distinguish between those who merely stood in the room and those it considered part of its own logic. Dr Sane placed the ledger strips back into the satchel, then crossed to the cabinet with the sealed envelope still in hand. Pax followed, already carrying his tablet and a fresh page of notes. Wolf remained near the door, as if he had decided the room could have the rest of them but not his back. Ren stayed with Fang at the centre of the archive wing, close enough to be a steady presence and far enough to give him room to think.
The cabinet's brass latch clicked once under Dr Sane's fingers.
The lower panel slid open.
