The sealed drawer opened with a sigh of old brass.
No dramatic burst of light followed, no hidden mechanism snapping into place with theatrical force. It was quieter than that, which somehow made it feel more deliberate. The pale line that had travelled across the cabinet base settled at the drawer's lip and then slipped inside, as if the archive had decided the next layer should be shown only to those already standing close enough to witness it.
