"That dick! Who does he think he is?" Shauna fumed at her side.
The referee gave Remo a frown, before simply nodding, and raising his hand. "Trainers ready your pokemon!" he ordered. they quickly did as they were told, both grabbing two pokeballs, "3….2….1! Release your pokemon!"
As one, both Tierno and Remo followed his directions.
"Let's rock our hearts out! Wartortle! Pikachu!" Tierno released his pokemon with twin bursts of silvery white light. They burst into existence with style, both spinning on their tails and posing with jazz hands.
At the same time-
"Garchomp! Goodra! Let us crush them!" Remo laughed as he unleashed his own two pokemon.
A pair of massive dragons that loomed high above both Tierno's pokemon the second they came forth.
The crowd went absolutely wild with excitement the moment Remo's pokemon appeared.
At the same time, she could see in real time as all the confidence drained right out of Tierno and his pokemon, his face paling and jaw dropping.
And no wonder!
Not just a Goodra, one of the most iconic, rare and most powerful species of pokemon in existence. But a Garchomp too!
Goodra was one of the headliners of Champion Diantha's team. And Garchomp the ace of Champion Cynthia's team. Both rare and fabled Pseudo Legendary pokemon. Renowned far and wide for their natural overwhelmingly monstrous strength, power and potential.
"Oh….no." Serena grimaced. What was a guy like that doing here? This wasn't some professional tournament! That was absurd!
Poor Tierno!
It was over almost as soon as it began.
"No worries guys, we can still handle this!" Tierno tried to cheer his pokemon on, but there was no hiding how forced his grin was, nor the sweat soaking his brow even from where she sat above in the stands, "Pikachu! hleping Hand. Wartortle, Ice Beam on Garchomp!"
Pikachu spun at his command, twiling, and lighting up with bright yellow power that swept over onto Wartortle, who quickly opened his mouth, a large sphere of icy blue crackling into existence, before erupting into a trio of jagged energy lances, each as wide as Wartortle was tall-
"Dragon Pulse, both of you!" Remo counted.
Serena could only look away with a grimace, as both massive dragons opened their maws wide and the world was covered in prismatic light.
Twin enormous beams of prismatic light erupted, converging together into one massive dragon shaped beam that roared over the Ice Beam attack, swallowing it whole.
Before slamming into Pikachu and Wartortle and erupting in an explosion that felt like it rocked the entire town.
"Kya!" Serena had to hold her skirt down with one hand, and stop herself from being sent flying from her seat with the other.
It wasn't long before the smoke and debris caused by the dual attack died down, to reveal both Wartortle and Pikachu both collapsed, injured and unconscious.
Not even close to being able to continue.
"Both Wartortle and Pikachu are unable to continue! Remo is the winner!" the referee called.
"Poor Tierno." she repeated her thoughts, biting her lip as she watched the heavy set rotund boy drop to his knees and stare at his pokemon in horror and disbelief.
As if he couldn't imagine what he just saw.
She didn't blame him. He'd been training so hard, both for his journey and this tournament. And this was what it amounted to.
"Wahahaha!" Remo laughed arrogantly, "Like I said, not even worth using two pokemon! Not a challenge at all." he declared grandly and swaggered away leaving Tierno to pick up the pieces of his shattered efforts.
"Tch, that guy…!" Shauna growled, "Talking like that. Imagine being so arrogant when you have such gaudy taste. Did you see what he had his Garchomp wearing?"
"Ah…" Serena blinked, she hadn't honestly paid much attention to that. But now that she thought about it. The Garchomp had been wearing huge gaudy blue pearls around its neck, while the Goodra hadn't worn anything at all.
"Like seriously, pearls? And ones like that?" Shauna wrinkled his nose, "And that outfit of his, does he think he's from ancient Kanto? Well he's not, cuz even back then their fashion was way better than his."
She couldn't help but shake her head and chuckle, mood lifting just a bit at her insulting that arrogant asshole, "I know right? Even my grandma had better taste in pearls." she agreed.
She cast her eye to Tierno as he recalled his pokemon and left the battlefield behind. Pausing only as the referee clapped him on the shoulder and gave him a nod, before continuing on.
His shoulders were slumped she noticed.
It bore repeating.
But poor Tierno.
She looked back as the second round was called, and the referee started up the electronic screen again. And she blinked as another familiar face appeared.
Of someone she had met just an hour ago at most. Alongside a guy with red hair styled in a messy fauxhawk.
Everett vs Jord
"Sup?" Jord greeted Everett as he made his way onto the battlefield moments later. His opponent, Everret, a lanky boy with a sneer on his lips, dressed in black pants and a red leather jacket, looking like a delinquent scoffed at him.
"Jord? The heck kinda name is that?" the boy sneered at him, "Doesn't sound Kalosian. You some kinda hick from out of Region?"
Wow…that. Just, plain rude. And what did it matter if he wasn't from Kalos?
"The same name your mother moans every night," Jord smiled back at him cheerfully, "You can just call me dad though."
Despite herself, Serena couldn't stop the loud guffaw that erupted from her lips at the immediate reply. And she wasn't the only one, Shauna joined her, as did most of the crowd.
Laughter rang out loudly, and it changed the mood entirely she felt, from the last battle.
Everett's face burned crimson, "Who do you think you are?!" he snarled, "Cocky punk. Think you can just insult me, the one who'll one day be the true champion of Kalos?"
"Who do I think I am?" Jord smirked cockily, arms crossed behind his head, completely relaxed despite the anger being directed at him, "I just told you. I'm your dear ol' daddy. Best watch that mouth boy, before I send you back to your room without supper."
Everett clenched his fists angrily at his side, "you think you can talk to me like this? Talk about my mother in that disgusting way?" he spat, "I'll make you regret this when my pokemon put yours in the dirt."
"Yeah, whatever pussy," Jord snorted, "Talk shit then hide behind your pokemon. If you were a real man you'd tell me to meet you somewhere private after this match and we'd settle it properly."
Everett reared back as if Jord had slapped him, mouth flapping uselessly.
"That's what I thought," he pushed on when Everett had no retort, "Only been in Kalos less than three hours. But so far, while the girls have been top notch beauties in looks and personality, the lads have left a lot to be desired." as he said that, his eyes roamed over the stands, and his eyes met hers.
He winked.
Her lips switched uncontrollably. Really, he honestly was so bold wasn't he? She raised her hand a little, waving back slightly and feeling her cheeks burn a lot like Everett's were.
Though for different reasons.
"Yeah…well, we'll see!" Everett finally sputtered, breaking the moment as Jord looked away from her, back to him, "Ref, start the match!" he demanded.
The referee rolled his eyes, but complied with the arrogant, rude boys demand.
"Let me show you the superior beauty of Kalos!" Everett boasted as he held up two pokeballs, and as soon as the referee counted down, he released both inside, "Come on out. Furfrou!" he declared, at the same time Jord let loose his pokemon
Her jaw dropped, eyes widening in disbelief and awe.
In twin bursts of light. Two large white furred Furfrou appeared in front of him. Both different from the usual of the canine. Both had their fur completely styled, and both were dyed. One red, one light blue.
Gasps of awe swept across the stadium, and Everett proudly puffed up his chest and looked smugly-
Right at the absolutely monstrously massive Rhyperior in front of Jord. Calling it monstrous was an understatement though. It was titanic, putting even the towering massive forms of Remo's Garchomp and Goodra to shame. Serena was very familiar with the Rhyhorn line, she'd seen many a Rypherior in her life.
But never one that was easily over thirty feet tall.
But even at that. It wasn't the monstrous titanic Rhyperior that drew the eyes of everyone and their awe.
No, it was the serpentine beast beside it. Just as big as the Rhyperior, Jord's Steelix preened under all the eyes on it. And the way its gorgeous, crystaline gem like body sparkled under the sunlight.
Like a priceless gem given the form of a colossal serpent of raw beauty and unstoppable power.
