Chapter 12 - send in Aquaman!!!!

The silence lasted exactly three seconds.

Then somebody shouted.

"SHOOT HIM!"

The dock exploded into chaos once more.

Ryan reacted in time and shot for cover leaving the suspect holding his limp arm in the line of fire to meet the hail of bullets tearing through the air

Ryan immediately dropped behind the van.

"Yep. There it is," he muttered.

"The consequences. No thanks Ryan for saving us from blowing !!! Nope just consequences"

A bullet punched through the side panel above his head.

Ryan winced.

"Very immediate consequences."

McNab leaned around cover and returned fire along with the other officers. It gave him enough time as he b- lined to were Ryan was

"Rookie!"

"Yeah?"

"What exactly was that?!"

"Pressure points?"

"I'll give you that one but the sprint right then "

"... enthusiasm?"

McNab stared at him.

Even during a gunfight, the detective somehow looked disappointed.

Welters didn't even bother asking questions anymore.

He had reached acceptance.

A dangerous state of acceptance.

The kind where a man simply accepted that reality no longer made sense.

A loud horn suddenly echoed across the harbor.

Ryan's attention snapped toward the cargo ship.

The engines were starting.

"Oh no."

The suited man was making his move.

Huge ropes disconnected from the dock.

Crew members rushed across the deck.

The ship began slowly pulling away from the pier.

"They're leaving!" Ryan shouted.

McNab looked toward the water.

"Damn it. Someone radio in coast guard we need everything aquatic they can get us and some helicopters , we can't let a operation this big get away right in front of us"

The ship represented evidence.

Stolen property.

Dozens of suspects.

And most importantly, whoever was running this operation.

If it escaped, it would be a huge opportunity lost to bag a high profile case

The suited man stepped back onto the deck.

Unlike everyone else, he wasn't carrying a weapon.

He wasn't giving orders.

He wasn't even in a hurry.

He simply watched.

Observed.

Calculated.

Ryan got the strange feeling he was looking at someone used to being in control.

Then the man did something unexpected.

He raised a hand.

And waved.

Directly at Ryan.

Ryan felt a chill run down his spine.

The suited man then turned around and took out a big device and with an antenna by what Ryan could tell and spoke into it as he walked away

Ryan then found out one disadvantage to the byakugan

'with his back turned I can't make out what he's saying, if I choose to see through him that means I see through him so I can't make out mouth movements .....dang it

"Okay."

"What now?" Welters asked.

Welters looked at the distant ship.

"You got any more feelings to help us out on this one rookie"

Ryan froze.

"No..not this time " he hated to admit it but it was true from where he was on the dock, the byakugans range had just reached the edge of the back stern the ship which was where the suited man was

"Ah well you know newcomers luck or whatever is up with you had to end at some point"

Before Welters could continue, several black SUVs suddenly appeared from the opposite side of the docks.

They weren't police vehicles.

They looked too expensive.

Too unrealistic

The vehicles skidded to a stop.

Doors flew open.

Men and women in wind breakers emerged.

Not NYPD.

Not SWAT.

Something else.

The lead agent flashed a badge.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"

McNab groaned.

"Oh, perfect."

Ryan looked over.

"Who are they?"

"The people who are about to steal all our credit."

The agents rapidly took control of the scene.

Criminals were arrested.

Left over Weapons were secured.

Evidence was catalogued.

Within minutes, the remaining resistance collapsed.

The impromptu operation was over.

Mostly.

Boom!!!!!!

The ship that had sailed away exploded

The lead federal agent approached McNab.

A woman in her thirties with sharp eyes and an expression that suggested one thing

(I ain't the one ).

"You Detective McNab?"

"Unfortunately."

She handed over a business card.

"We'll be taking jurisdiction."

McNab sighed.

"Well uhm a big part of your jurisdiction just blew up my friend"

The agent's gaze shifted.

" He got away , you guys spooked him ,we were gonna move in tonight, our tactical team hadn't arrived yet"

The agent looked toward Ryan.

"Who's the kid?"

"Rookie officer."welters replied

"Wait I don't understand what do you mean he got away , he blew up "Ryan asked in confusion

"No he's used this particular method before , cargo ship fitted with Submarine in side , they get further enough off shore , they go under and the cargo ship blows up " The agent was vexed as she explained

Looking at Ryan unconvinced she asked

"That's a rookie? You look 17"

Ryan remembered she had surveillance on this place and had a feeling she had witnessed the detonator incident.

Which wasn't ideal.

The woman studied him for several seconds.

Then her radio crackled.

A voice came through.

"We lost visual on the primary target there was a blip on radar then nothing"

The agent cursed.

"The man in the suit?"

Ryan asked.

Her eyes snapped toward him.

"You saw him?"

Ryan immediately realized his mistake.

"... it's more he saw me?"

The agent's stare intensified.

"Describe him for me"

Ryan did.

Every detail.

The suit.

The height.

The face.

The smile.

The binoculars.

The agent's expression darkened with every word.

When Ryan finished, she looked genuinely concerned.

"Yeah thats the Bastard and you say he noticed you? Well now that's something"

McNab frowned.

"You know him?"

The agent hesitated.

Then nodded.

"Unfortunately."

"Who is he?"

The woman looked toward the retreating cargo ship.

"His name is Victor Kane."

The name meant nothing to Ryan.

The reaction from the federal agents told a different story.

Several of them went pale.

One muttered a curse.

Ryan noticed all of it.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

Because if federal agents were reacting like that...

Then Victor Kane was a lot more dangerous than an ordinary crime boss.

And somehow, on his very first day as a police officer, Ryan Walker had managed to get noticed by him.
