Chapter 8 - First true spell

But who… were those hooded people?

I didn't remember them from the original series.

I leaned against a wall, exhausted, my body slowly sliding down as countless questions flooded my mind.

Could it be…?

Were they reincarnated too?

…No.

That was unlikely.

They clearly thought I was just some strange human from Earth.

If they had really been like me, they would've revealed themselves.

We would have talked.

Shared what we knew.

No… they felt different.

Like they truly belonged to the Boiling Isles.

At least… I think.

After all, this world isn't limited to just the Isles.

Which means…

my very existence here might have already caused a butterfly effect.

I let out a long sigh.

Just imagining the mess I might've created…

Yeah.

That definitely wasn't part of my dream plan.

But I didn't even have the luxury to think about that right now.

For now…

I needed to get to the Conformatorium.

As fast as possible.

That was where Luz and Eda would go to retrieve King's crown.

One of the most important moments in Luz's journey—

the moment she realized that being weird… wasn't a bad thing.

My plan was simple.

When Luz frees the prisoners and chaos breaks out…

I'll step in and help them.

After the fight, I'll reveal that I'm human.

And if they ask what I'm doing here—

I'll just say I accidentally entered this world while exploring an old abandoned cabin.

A strange door.

With an eye drawn on it.

Then I got captured by a guard.

Simple.

Then I just ask if I can stay with them.

Done.

…Well.

In theory.

Because honestly?

It wouldn't have worked if I had approached them earlier.

Imagine this—

I arrive in a world full of demons and witches…

and the first thing I do is ask Eda, a complete stranger, to let me live with her?

Yeah.

That wouldn't work in any world.

The only reason she accepted Luz…

was because of the impression Luz gave her.

Her personality.

Her love for magic.

And most importantly—

that first meeting.

I couldn't ruin that.

So yeah.

Better stick to the plan.

Even if it's messy.

There's just one problem…

The reason I bought that potion…

was to help them during the fight.

Even if they don't actually need it.

I just wanted to make a good first impression.

But now…

If I use my glyphs…

that could be a problem.

If Luz discovers glyph magic too early—

it could change everything.

I sighed again.

"…Well, whatever."

I already caused a butterfly effect anyway.

So what's a little more chaos?

Wait.

That sounded like a bad idea.

In stories, things always go wrong right after someone says that.

Yeah.

I should definitely not say stuff like that.

Anyway—

I didn't have much time left.

I took one of the cards I brought from Earth.

Then crouched down near a small puddle and dipped my fingers in the mud.

Slowly…

I began drawing a glyph.

One of the ones Luz used in the series.

"If I remember correctly… it looked like this…"

I finished the drawing.

"…And done."

I stared at it.

"…Is this really going to work?"

After all…

I had never tried this properly.

The last time I used magic—

it was through the concentration potion.

And the result hadn't even matched Luz's spells.

I sighed again.

Too many unknowns.

But there was only one way to find out.

"Okay… this should be an ice glyph…"

I placed the card on the ground.

"…Here goes nothing."

I crouched slightly and tapped the drawing.

Then stepped back.

Please work.

For a second…

nothing happened.

My heart sank.

Then—

the card lit up.

A blue glow spread across the ground.

CRACK.

Suddenly—

sharp pillars of ice burst from the ground, rising all the way up to the roof of a nearby house.

I froze.

"…It worked."

Then—

a grin spread across my face.

"HAHAHA—YES!"

"It worked!"

"This is insane!"

"This is—"

"…this is real magic."

A wave of pure joy surged through me.

For so long, everything felt like a dream.

But now—

this was real.

I could do it too.

Magic.

Actual magic.

I stood there, smiling like an idiot.

Then finally—

I exhaled deeply.

"Okay… calm down."

I clenched my fist.

Excitement still burning inside me.

"It's time."

"To go to the Conformatorium."

I paused.

"…Wait."

A realization hit me.

"…How do I even get there?"
