Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13:A Soldier’s rage

Rudran struck down the charging leopard with the sharp edge of his sword, ending its life in a single decisive blow. The child it had been about to attack was now safe.

But before he could even catch his breath, soldiers surrounded him from all sides.

The Queen of Kosalai rushed forward, her voice trembling."My son… what has happened to you? I cannot thank you enough for saving his life. I don't even know how to express my gratitude…"

Only then did Rudran and his companions realize that the child they had saved was none other than the prince of the Kosalai kingdom.

After hearing why they had come, the Queen personally escorted them to the palace. There, King Sethupathy welcomed them warmly. The Queen had already told him everything.

"Rudra," the king said, his voice filled with emotion, "for someone so young, you carry a burden beyond measure. What you've done is no small feat. You didn't just save my son—you saved our kingdom, our lineage. I owe you a great debt."

Understanding their purpose, the king granted them the sacred nectar they had come seeking.

Without delay, Rudran and Bermi departed for Zimbara.

When they reached Zimbara, the physician was astonished at the sight of the nectar in their hands. Immediately, treatment for Pandu began.

At that moment, Rudran received urgent news—his kingdom was in danger.

"You must return to Gandharva at once," the message read.

Rudran was shaken. But Bermi urged him, "Go, my son. Your people need you."

Though reluctant to leave before Pandu recovered, Rudran entrusted him to the physician and set out with his companions.

Upon reaching Gandharva, Rudran demanded, "What is happening here?"

"My lord," the minister replied, "Marthandan has launched an attack from the south. He has surrounded our kingdom without warning, knowing you were absent."

Rudran's eyes hardened. "No more lives will be lost. Order the soldiers to stay within and protect the people. Open the gates only when I command."

He then entered a secret chamber beneath the palace.

In the darkness, only two massive red eyes glowed.

Agomi.

When Rudran emerged, he stood before the gates with Agomi beside him, sword in hand. The sight alone made Marthandan's army tremble.

What followed was devastation.

Rudran unleashed destruction upon the battlefield, turning it into a sea of fire. Marthandan himself was beheaded by Rudran's blade.

The war ended in victory.

Soon after, the sacred Aazhi festival began—a ritual held once in many years. As king, Rudran undertook the responsibility. For fifty days, he worshipped Lord Shiva, and on the final day, he carried holy water from the Agni river through the streets on foot.

With each step, his feet bled.

Yet the people roared, "Long live King Rudra Senan!" showering him with flowers.

Though victorious, Rudran's heart was heavy.

"Why do you look so troubled?" Ponni asked.

"I don't know how Pandu is doing," he replied.

Just then, a message arrived through a mystical bird—Pandu had recovered and would soon return.

Relief finally softened Rudran's face.

One day, as he stood gazing over his vast kingdom, Ponni approached him.

"You're admiring your land?" she asked.

"Yes… but beneath this beauty lies sorrow. Many have lost fathers, brothers, and loved ones to war. A true king does not seek conquest—he seeks peace."

"My only wish," he continued, "is for my people to live in peace."

Ponni smiled gently. "As long as you are here, no harm will come to them."

Time passed, and Rudran ruled wisely. His governance brought prosperity and happiness to the people.

One day, a sage arrived at the royal court.

"Master," Rudran said, "I have many questions. Who am I? What is Agomi? Why did my father abandon this kingdom?"

The sage closed his eyes and began to speak.

"Long ago, this land was ruled by your grandfather, King Virendhiran…"

And thus, the truth of Rudran's past—filled with betrayal, war, and destiny—began to unfold.
