Chapter 1 - My soul will always remember

Zavi is dead.

It's been three months since Zavi died. All his belongings are still in the same place: his books, his piano, his glasses. Those collectibles from the anime Zavi really liked are now covered in dust.

"Aared... Come find me in our secret spot. If you ever think you've lost me, you'll find me there."

Zavi was a light, and he was the one who brought Aared out of the pits of hell. Being with him was so comforting that Aared didn't even realize that the last time Zavi said those words, they were slightly different.

"Aared... Come find me in our secret spot. If you ever think you've lost me, you'll find my remnants there."

Aared truly thought Zavi had said the same sentence. He was so comfortable in his presence that he failed to notice the change in tone. Aared hated himself most for that exact reason.

It is now 3 a.m., and he's sitting in a deep, old, forgotten cabin in the woods—the infamous secret spot of Aared and Zavi. This time, Zavi wasn't there, but his remnants were. The water bottle that Zavi used to keep beside him was still sitting there.

One thing was certain, Aared couldn't bring himself to touch any of those things. He was scared that his touch would taint the remaining pieces of Zavi.

In his hand was the letter that Zavi had written to him. He stared at the paper that held Zavi's last words.

---

Dear Aared,

I'm sorry for leaving you like this, leaving you alone in this disgusting, cruel world.

My dearest Aared, know that in this rotten place, the most beautiful thing that made me live for another three years was you, and only you.

But now, seeing that I can no longer hold on, I have to let myself go.

I'm sorry for being cruel to you. I'm sorry I can't be there for you anymore. I couldn't be brave enough to tell you that I love you.

Please live on. I know it is selfish, but please carry my love with you. For you, I want to continue existing, even if it's only in memory.

Come to me when the time is right, and I'll wait for you.

Only yours,

Zavi

---

It was now raining cats and dogs outside, yet he was still staring at the letter. Hot tears fell onto the crumpled paper, smudging the words of love, the last words of love that Zavi had left for him.

He wanted him back. He wanted him here.

The suffocating feeling of not having his purpose by his side made him feel as though his internal organs were collapsing, and sooner or later he would become one with the soil. Maybe then he would be able to see Zavi again.

A loud crack of thunder pulled him back to his senses. Looking around, he noticed twenty missed calls from his mother.

He picked up his jacket and carefully placed the letter into the pocket closest to his heart. He hadn't even realized that he had been staring at it for almost two hours.

He looked outside. The rain had settled, and the first rays of the newly risen sun were breaking through the clouds.
