Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Forever Begins Today (Epilogue)

The morning of the wedding arrived faster than either of us expected.

Sunlight streamed through the windows.

The sky was clear.

Perfect.

Almost suspiciously perfect.

I stood in front of a mirror.

Adjusting my tie for what felt like the hundredth time.

My hands were shaking.

"You're nervous."

Adrian's voice came from behind me.

"I'm not nervous."

"You've adjusted that tie seventeen times."

I sighed.

"Okay. Maybe a little."

Adrian laughed.

"Good."

"What does that mean?"

"It means you're smart enough to understand what's happening."

I rolled my eyes.

Some things never changed.

Across town—

She was getting ready too.

Her dress hung near the window.

Beautiful.

Elegant.

Everything she'd dreamed of.

Elena stood beside her.

Helping with the final details.

"You okay?"

She smiled.

"I've never been better."

And for once—

That wasn't an exaggeration.

Hours later—

Friends and family filled the venue.

The ocean sparkled nearby.

Waves rolled gently against the shore.

The same ocean that had witnessed so many important moments.

Today it would witness another.

Music began to play.

Everyone stood.

Then she appeared.

And suddenly—

Nothing else existed.

Not the guests.

Not the flowers.

Not the decorations.

Just her.

Walking toward me.

The woman who had changed everything.

The woman who had fought beside me.

Believed in me.

Chosen me.

The woman I loved.

Tears filled her eyes.

Honestly—

Mine too.

For a brief moment—

I thought about everything that had brought us here.

The secrets.

The lies.

The fear.

All of it felt so far away now.

Because we survived it.

Together.

The ceremony passed in a blur.

Vows.

Smiles.

Laughter.

Happy tears.

Then finally—

The words we'd been waiting for.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife."

Cheers erupted.

Applause filled the air.

And as I kissed her—

The future finally arrived.

Not the future other people wanted.

Not the future fear created.

Our future.

The one we chose.

Later that evening—

As the sun began setting—

We stood alone on the beach.

The celebration continued behind us.

But for a moment—

It was just us.

Like always.

She rested her head on my shoulder.

I smiled.

"Mrs. Ashford."

She immediately laughed.

"Don't get used to saying that."

"I like it."

"Too bad."

I laughed.

Then we both looked out at the ocean.

The horizon stretched endlessly ahead.

Full of possibilities.

Full of dreams.

Full of life.

And somewhere beyond the waves—

The past finally let go.

Leaving only tomorrow.

And forever.
