I watched Petra's eyes grow heavy, her eyelashes dropping a few times before finally shutting… despite her obvious resistance.
I knew her body was reacting to the medication. Dr. Rheas had warned me before we came in. "She'll tire quickly. Don't be alarmed when she does. It's a way for her to heal faster." I hadn't fully understood what that meant until now….watching Petra's head tip slightly against the pillow, watching the tight line of her shoulders release as her expression turned relaxed.
I remained where I was, my eyes tracing the edge of her face. If there was anyone who was calm and collected in my group of friends, it was Petra.
