Chapter 535 - Chapter Five Hundred Thirty-Five: The Keeper's Wedding

Chapter Five Hundred Thirty-Five: The Keeper's Wedding

Leo and Jamie decided to get married on a Saturday.

They had talked about it for years—lazy mornings on the porch swing, late nights in the garden, quiet moments when the weight of the constellation felt lighter than usual. But there was always another letter to read. Another stone to place. Another story to tell.

"We can't wait forever," Jamie said.

Leo looked at him. "Are you proposing?"

Jamie smiled. "I'm asking. Will you marry me?"

Leo laughed. "Yes. Obviously yes."

Jamie kissed him. "Good. Now let's tell the garden."

---

They set the date for the summer solstice—the longest day of the year, the day when the light stayed late and the roses were in full bloom.

The garden prepared itself.

The stones were washed. The glass cases were polished. The roses were pruned and watered and encouraged to bloom.

Keepers came from everywhere.

Marcus came, with Claire beside him. Sarah came. Samira came. Noor came. Helen came. Tessa came. Irene came. Sophie came. Alex came, with Caleb beside him. Priya came. Margaret came. Eliza came. Gloria came.

They filled the garden. They sat on blankets and chairs and the porch swing. They drank tea and ate cake and told stories.

Leo stood at the front of the garden, wearing a simple blue suit. Jamie stood beside him, wearing a suit the color of roses.

"We're here today to celebrate love," Leo said. "Not the love that crosses streets. Not the love that writes letters. Just love. Simple love. The kind that holds your hand in the dark."

He looked at Jamie.

"I love you," Leo said. "I've loved you since we sat next to each other in math class. I've loved you since I was afraid to say it. I will love you until the stars burn out."

Jamie took his hands.

"I love you too," Jamie said. "I've loved you since you passed me notes. I've loved you since I drew you pictures. I will love you forever."

---

They exchanged rings—simple bands, engraved with the constellation's stars.

"You may kiss the groom," Marcus called.

Jamie kissed Leo.

The garden erupted in applause.

The roses swayed. The stones glowed. The stars—even in the daylight—seemed to shine a little brighter.

---

That night, Leo wrote in his notebook.

Today I got married. Jamie is my husband now. He has always been my husband. But now the world knows.

We stood in the garden. We said our vows. We kissed in front of everyone.

The constellation was there. All of them. The stones. The letters. The stories. Everyone we have ever helped cross.

I am not just the keeper anymore. I am a husband. I am loved. I am home.

The constellation keeps growing. And so does my heart.

The Garden Beyond

Marcus sat on his bench beneath the apple tree.

He was wearing a blue suit—not the one he had worn at his own wedding, but a new one, one that seemed to have grown from the roses themselves.

"He got married," Marcus said.

Luna sat beside him.

"In the garden," Luna said.

The first Lina smiled.

"Where he belongs," the first Lina said.

Margaret Thorne nodded.

"Love wins," Margaret said.

Eleanor Whitmore smiled.

"It always wins," Eleanor said.

Helena Brooks took the first Lina's hand.

"The constellation keeps growing," Helena said.

Marcus looked at the stars—at the thousands of lights scattered across the sky, at the millions of stories still waiting to be told.

"Because of love," Marcus said.

Luna squeezed his hand.

"Always because of love," Luna said.
