Chapter 17 Fight on Hackonosu
The ship sailed through the New World and eventually reached the island known as the "Paradise of Pirates".
A gigantic skull-shaped mountain towered over the island, casting a massive shadow across the harbor below. Countless pirate ships filled the docks, their flags fluttering wildly in the sea breeze.
Yamato, Ragnar, and Hayori stood at the front of the ship, looking at the infamous island in awe.
"So this is Hachinosu... the Paradise of Pirates," Ragnar muttered.
His eyes wandered across the countless pirate ships anchored around the port.
Yamato grinned and suddenly turned toward him.
"Hey, this was the island where that stupid old man used to stay when he was just a newbie in the Rocks Pirates, right?"
Ragnar nodded.
"Yeah."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"This island was the base of the strongest pirate crew in history..."
After thinking for a moment, he corrected himself.
"At least, as much of history as I know."
"The Rocks Pirates were the strongest crew ever assembled."
"Monsters like Edward Newgate the Whitebeard, the Flying Admiral Golden Lion Shiki, Charlotte Linlin the Big Mom, the former Empress of Kuja Gloriosa, Joan, Ochoku, Silver Axe, and our old man Kaido were all part of it."
Hayori, who had been listening quietly, was completely speechless.
What the hell...?
But Ragnar wasn't finished.
"And all those monsters were kept in check by one man."
"Rocks D. Xebec."
"The former and only captain of the old man."
Hayori's face instantly went pale.
"Wh-What kind of monster was he...?"
"To keep Kaido and the others in check?"
Her voice trembled in disbelief.
Ragnar grinned.
"He was the man who invaded the Holy Land Mary Geoise alone, kidnapped five kings, killed an admiral by himself, clashed with the Giant King, and escaped from the Holy Land."
Yamato's eyes sparkled.
"As expected of old man's captain!"
Meanwhile, Hayori felt like her worldview had just shattered.
Over the years, she had learned much about the outside world from King and Queen.
She finally understood the power balance of the world.
Which was exactly why the feats Ragnar casually described horrified her.
The more she thought about it, the more absurd it sounded.
---
Meanwhile...
At the port of Hachinosu.
Many pirates had already noticed the approaching ship.
Pirates arriving at Hachinosu was nothing unusual.
However...
The flag flying atop the ship was another matter entirely.
The moment they recognized it, countless faces turned pale.
"N-No way..."
"Th-That's the Beast Pirates!"
"Why is a Yonko crew here?!"
"Is this a war?!"
Whispers spread rapidly through the harbor.
Some pirates even subconsciously stepped backward.
Creak...
The ship docked.
The wooden plank slowly lowered.
Everyone stared toward it while swallowing nervously.
Then...
Footsteps echoed.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Ragnar and Yamato walked down without the slightest hesitation.
Their white hair fluttered in the wind.
Yamato rested her kanabo across her shoulder while Ragnar casually kept his hands inside his pockets.
Behind them stood Hayori.
"Tsk."
Yamato clicked her tongue.
"Why is everyone so weak?"
She sounded genuinely disappointed.
Ragnar nodded.
"Well, they're just bandits calling themselves pirates after all."
The statement instantly ignited the crowd.
Veins bulged across countless foreheads.
Many of the pirates gathered here weren't weak.
Several captains had survived years in the New World.
Some even possessed two forms of Haki.
Being looked down upon by a pair of teenagers immediately infuriated them.
"You brat! Who do you think you are?!"
"I've been sailing the seas longer than you've been alive, boy!"
"Tsk! Just because you arrived on a Yonko ship doesn't mean you can look down on us!"
"You kids are really full of yourselves!"
Weapons began sliding from sheaths.
Shing!
Clang!
Shhk!
Mocking grins appeared everywhere.
One pirate looked toward Yamato greedily.
"That girl is really pretty."
"If we sell her, a Celestial Dragon would surely take interest in her."
"Jihahahaha!"
"Let's see if Kaido dares save her once she becomes their plaything!"
"Gahahahaha!"
"And that boy would make an excellent slave!"
The pirates burst into cruel laughter.
The greed in their eyes became obvious.
More and more weapons appeared.
The atmosphere turned murderous.
Meanwhile...
The Beast Pirates aboard the ship had gone completely silent.
Hayori's expression turned cold.
Killing intent appeared in her eyes.
Yamato and Ragnar also remained silent.
Yet somehow...
The air felt different.
Heavier.
More dangerous.
One pirate mistook their silence for fear.
"Kakakaka!"
"Look how scared they are!"
"Boys! Capture them!"
"Once we sell them, we'll be rich!"
The pirates roared enthusiastically.
Morale surged.
Several groups immediately began advancing toward the ship.
Then Ragnar spoke.
Not loudly.
Not even to anyone in particular.
Just to himself.
"Plaything...?"
His eyes slowly moved toward the pirates.
Yamato's grip tightened around her kanabo.
"A slave...?"
Her voice was equally quiet.
Both pairs of eyes locked onto the crowd.
Then—
BOOOOOOM!!!
Two overwhelming waves of Conqueror's Haki exploded outward.
The harbor trembled.
The sky darkened.
Crimson-black lightning danced violently through the air.
CRACKLE!
BOOM!
Pirates standing in front received the full impact.
Many rolled their eyes backward and collapsed instantly.
THUD!
THUD!
THUD!
Others dropped to one knee.
Sweat poured down their faces.
Veterans who had survived years in the New World managed to remain standing.
But that experience only made them understand how terrifying this was.
"C-Conqueror's Haki?!"
"Tw-Two Conqueror's Haki users?!"
"This pressure...!"
Many gripped their weapons tighter.
Their hands trembled.
The Haki vanished.
Silence followed.
Then—
BOOM!!!
Ragnar and Yamato bent their knees and launched themselves forward.
The entire ship shook from the force.
The harbor cracked beneath their landing.
KRAAAACK!
A dense mist immediately spread outward.
The temperature plummeted.
Ice crept across the stone harbor.
The pirates felt chills run down their spines.
Ragnar's hands transformed.
Green draconic claws emerged.
Lightning crackled around them.
Yamato's kanabo became covered in freezing white energy.
Then both shouted simultaneously.
"YOU DARE SAY THAT ABOUT YAMATO?!"
"YOU DARE SAY THAT ABOUT RAGNAR?!"
The harbor froze.
Even the pirates were stunned.
The next second—
BOOM!!!
Both disappeared.
The pirates panicked.
Yet years of surviving the New World prevented them from running.
"THEY'RE JUST KIDS!"
"EVEN WITH CONQUEROR'S HAKI THEY AREN'T MONSTERS YET!"
"TAKE THEM DOWN!"
The pirates charged.
Weapons raised.
There was no running from this fight anymore.
---
Back aboard the ship.
Hayori looked at Enma resting at her waist.
Taking a deep breath, she unsheathed it slightly.
Immediately—
Vrrrrrr!
Her Haki began flowing toward the blade.
"Tsk."
"You damn sword."
She clicked her tongue.
Enma was immediately sheathed again.
Instead, she drew Ame-no-Habakiri.
The blade gleamed beneath the sunlight.
Hayori stepped forward.
"Keep the ship protected."
"And leave the battle to us."
The crew immediately straightened.
"Y-Yes, Lady Hayori!"
Meanwhile...
The battle had already begun.
BOOM!
Ragnar's fist slammed into a pirate's face.
CRACK!
The pirate spun through the air before crashing into a warehouse.
At the same time, Ragnar ducked beneath a sword strike.
A hammer came from the side.
He caught it effortlessly with his claw.
Crunch!
The weapon shattered instantly.
Nearby, Yamato was having the time of her life.
"Tsk."
"Like I need help?"
Her kanabo swept horizontally.
Frost energy exploded outward.
WHOOSH!
Ice spread across the harbor.
Pirates began shivering uncontrollably.
Their movements slowed.
Their breathing became harder.
The moment their speed dropped—
Yamato grinned.
"Thunder Bagua!"
BOOOOOOM!!!
Several pirates were sent flying like cannonballs.
Meanwhile...
Hidden within the dense mist.
Hayori moved silently.
Like a phantom.
Like a ghost.
Her sword flashed.
Shing!
A pirate froze.
A thin line appeared across his chest.
Then another.
Then another.
One after another, pirates collapsed without even realizing she had passed by.
The mist.
The ice.
The chaos.
Everything worked perfectly together.
And in the center of it all—
Ragnar and Yamato rampaged through Hachinosu like natural disasters.
