Chapter 65 - A Line Crossed

Scene 1: The Quiet Mistake

The office was unusually calm.

Not peaceful.

Just controlled.

Kriti sat at her desk, staring at a report she had been working on since morning.

It wasn't fully complete.

But the deadline was close.

And she was tired.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard.

"…It's almost done," she muttered.

Then, without rechecking everything properly—

she marked the file as complete.

A small mistake.

A hidden gap in the data.

Something that should have been verified.

But it wasn't.

Scene 2: Ayaan Noticing the Gap

Ayaan didn't react immediately.

He rarely did.

He simply opened the file.

Read once.

Scrolled.

Paused.

Read again.

Then closed it.

Slowly.

His expression didn't change.

But the atmosphere around him did.

He stood up.

And walked toward Kriti's desk.

No rush.

No anger yet.

Just certainty.

Scene 3: The Confrontation

Kriti looked up and immediately felt it.

Something was wrong.

Ayaan placed the file on her desk.

"You marked this complete."

Kriti smiled lightly.

Trying to stay normal.

"Yes… it was nearly finished."

Ayaan opened it again.

Pointed silently at the missing section.

Then closed it.

"You didn't complete it."

A pause.

Kriti's smile faded slightly.

"It was a small section. I was going to fix it later."

Ayaan's voice stayed calm.

But sharper now.

"Then you should have written that."

Silence.

His gaze stayed on her.

"You did not make a mistake."

A pause.

"You hid it."

That word landed heavier than anything else.

Kriti froze.

For the first time—

she didn't have a joke ready.

Scene 4: Ayaan's Decision

The room felt quieter now.

Even people around had slowed down.

Ayaan straightened slightly.

"You cannot continue working like this."

Kriti swallowed.

"…I didn't mean to—"

Ayaan interrupted.

Not loudly.

But firmly.

"Intent does not remove risk."

A pause.

Then he made the decision.

"You will no longer work independently on reports like this."

Kriti blinked.

"…What?"

Ayaan continued.

"You will work directly under me."

Silence.

Kriti looked confused.

"…Under you?"

Ayaan nodded once.

"Yes."

Then, final and clear:

"You will be my secretary."

Scene 5: The Meaning of It

Kriti didn't react immediately.

She just stared.

"…Secretary?"

Ayaan:

"Yes."

He continued, calm and strict.

"Closer supervision. Faster feedback. More structured work."

A slight pause.

"Higher responsibility. Higher salary."

That last part surprised her slightly.

So this wasn't punishment.

Not exactly.

But it didn't feel like a reward either.

Kriti slowly leaned back.

"So… I'm promoted or demoted?"

Ayaan answered immediately.

"Corrected."

Scene 6: Aditya Breaks the Silence

From the side of the room—

Aditya finally reacted.

He leaned back in his chair.

Smirking.

"Oh."

Kriti turned.

"What?"

Aditya stood up slowly.

"…So now you're his secretary."

Kriti:

"Yes."

Aditya:

"That means you sit near him all day."

Kriti:

"That's how offices work."

Aditya shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"That's how disasters begin."

Kriti glared.

"It's a professional role."

Aditya:

"Sure."

He leaned slightly forward.

Smirking.

Then he added casually:

"With a salary upgrade, by the way."

Scene 7: Kriti's Reality Hits

Kriti looked at Ayaan.

Then back at Aditya.

Then the desk.

"…I think I'm being professionally relocated."

Aditya:

"That's a polite way to say controlled."

Kriti:

"I don't like your version of reality."

Aditya:

"Reality doesn't care."

Scene 8: Ayaan's Final Words

Ayaan turned slightly to leave.

But paused.

Without looking back:

"If you improve, this will not feel like restriction."

A pause.

"It will feel like structure."

Then he left.

Scene 9: Ending Beat

Silence returned.

Kriti sat there.

Staring at the file.

No jokes.

No complaints.

Just processing.

Aditya walked past her desk.

Lowered his voice slightly:

"…Secretary Kriti."

She looked up sharply.

He smirked.

And walked away.

Kriti sighed.

"…This job is going to destroy my peace."

But she didn't leave.

She stayed.

And opened the file again.

Carefully this time.
