Title: The Violent Girl Group is Overcoming the Apocalypse!
Author: Metaphysics Walking, Walking After School
Takajjo Kyoko swept her flashlight across the counter, its intense beam cutting through the glass display cases as the remaining gold and silver jewelry inside reflected a brilliant, dazzling light.
That shimmering, lustrous gold was incredibly eye-catching, striking directly at the human soul.
After all, who in this mortal world wouldn't love these captivating little trinkets?
Looking at the gold and silver jewelry before her—luxury items she would have hard pressed herself to ever decisively purchase before the apocalypse—Takajjo Kyoko found her self-restraint faltering slightly.
From ancient feudal lords and monarchs to modern financial titans; from high-ranking elites to the common folk at the very bottom of society. Beneath the heavens, rarely would anyone loathe these precious remnants born from supernova explosions.
Gold was far more than a mere luxury item. Its physical properties—especially its excellent ductility—rendered it an incredibly vital chemical and electronic component material.
Furthermore, as a currency, a hard asset like gold was unlikely to see its value depreciate to the point of being treated like worthless trash, even in an apocalypse. If these had been Yen banknotes that had lost their institutional backing, Kyoko would have disdained them as being too stubborn to even use as kindling.
Gold could still be used to trade with others; if she crossed paths with a buyer who appreciated it, she might even score some useful equipment. Moreover, within Kyoko's system shop—the exchange blueprints for certain rare items required gold as a material.
Faced with the sheer utility and profit that came with securing gold.
Kyoko was no saint who viewed money as mere dirt; she naturally wasn't exempt from worldly desires.
A person of honor loves wealth but acquires it through proper means. The original owners of these riches had long since vanished without a trace. Since they were abandoned goods without a master, it was naturally a case of first come, first served!
She stepped behind the counter and slid open the displays, scooping the remaining gold and silver jewelry into her pockets before transferring them smoothly into her dimensional storage space.
Rings, thumb rings, gold necklaces... all of these are mine now.
Kyoko searched for more gold, but out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the others intentionally steering clear of her, focusing their search on other items instead.
Did I scare them?
Kyoko murmured to herself. This dynamic wasn't ideal. As a leader, ensuring those underneath you got a slice of the pie was absolutely essential. Authority was necessary, but so was conciliation; wielding both grace and severity was the true path of leadership. Even though Kyoko's combat prowess already far exceeded that of ordinary humans, she still needed people to back her up.
This was reality, not a video game, and she wasn't Yuri—she lacked the ability to mind-control people.
If she couldn't even unite this small group into a cohesive community of shared interests, getting backstabbed further down the line would be a nightmare.
With this thought in mind, she looked at the others and smiled, saying, "Don't just stand there watching. Come over and grab a few pieces, don't be shy—we're all on the same team. I'm not a greedy person. Everyone pick out a few pieces of this masterless treasure that you like. Take a few per person, and I'll keep the rest as reserve funds to trade for supplies with other survivors later."
She then pulled out a portion of the gold she had just gathered, alongside what remained on the counter, and placed them deliberately on the table.
"Huh? Captain, you're incredibly generous! Then I won't stand on ceremony."
"Maybe we shouldn't? Personally, I think these kinds of things should be placed in the camp warehouse to serve as a capital reserve."
Some were thrilled while others politely declined, but seeing the first person take a piece, the others could no longer restrain themselves.
"Excellent. Consider this a part of your compensation. As long as you all continue to work under me, there will be no shortage of welfare and benefits in the future."
This leader is actually pretty great.
The few who received the jewelry were overjoyed, their voices carrying a distinct trace of newfound cheer.
Kyoko didn't feel any sting from distributing these jewels; they were merely worldly possessions, and besides, this wasn't a losing bargain.
She had effectively liquidated the gold into a far more valuable asset: loyalty. If she ever truly found herself in dire need of gold, she could easily set a specific objective to raid a dedicated jewelry store.
"Captain, most of the medication in the pharmacy section has damaged packaging. What's the call?"
At that moment, someone located the internal pharmacy within the commercial complex. Kyoko warned, "As long as the inner blister pack or foil lining on the shelves isn't breached, it's fine to take. Leave anything on the floor alone; there's no need to risk infection just to swallow medicine that might already be contaminated."
"Got it, Commander Takajjo."
The group proceeded to stuff their backpacks to the brim. Aside from the incredibly annoying infected that occasionally popped out from the corners of the store, everything else kept their spirits high.
"Captain Takajjo! Captain Takajjo, we found something amazing over here!"
"What is it! Why are you shouting so loudly?"
Hearing the ecstatic cries of her subordinates, Kyoko quickly hurried over.
"Look at the sheer volume of this! You guys did an incredible job!"
When Kyoko laid eyes on what they were referring to, even she couldn't help but be taken aback.
It was a warehouse storage zone, where crates upon crates of goods were neatly stacked atop massive iron racks.
Aside from being crudely and haphazardly looted during the initial outbreak, very few people had managed to leave this complex alive with supplies in the days that followed. Though the retail shelves had been ransacked and items lay scattered across the floor...
The bulk inventory within the commercial center had largely been left intact. Within the storage warehouse, goods were piled high like mountains. Even if a significant portion had been emptied out or spoiled over time, what remained was still highly substantial.
Given the mere handful of vehicles Kyoko had brought along, it would be impossible to completely clear out these supplies even in a few trips.
Of course, Kyoko wouldn't lose sleep over trivial items. The things that were truly scarce could, in reality, be entirely hauled away in one or two runs.
When the rivals attempting to contest your supplies all turn into the infected, you end up securing far more resources for yourself.
Kyoko had spotted quite a few infected corpses wearing backpacks earlier, highly likely to be previous survivors who had ventured here to scavenge.
Come to think of it, can these infected alone truly prevent survivors from acquiring supplies? The question suddenly crossed Kyoko's mind.
Could it be that the people around these parts were just incredibly unlucky? Very few survivors, with the vast majority of the local population getting infected right off the bat?
Forget it, no use dwelling on it. The priority was to quickly load up the vehicles and get moving.
"Miss Kyoko, our vehicles are parked and in position. Should we head inside to back you up?"
"Yes, of course you can. This commercial center has already been...!! Bang! Bang! Bang!" Before Kyoko could finish her sentence, Saito heard the sharp crack of gunfire over the radio, followed by the heavy thud of something crashing to the ground. He asked urgently, immediately stepping out of the vehicle with the intention of rushing to Kyoko's side.
"Kyoko! Miss Kyoko! What happened over there?!"
"..." The gunfire on the other end ceased, and Kyoko's voice returned, sounding perfectly steady as she replied, "Just an infected that was hiding under a display rack. I've taken care of it. Area secure, over. Have the others come in to start hauling the goods."
"Understood."
Kyoko lowered the walkie-talkie and let out a soft sigh. On the ground, the corpse of an infected with a blasted-in skull silently narrated what had just transpired. However, the others didn't possess Kyoko's calm composure; they gripped their weapons with anxious tension.
Seeing the situation, Kyoko offered a calm, steady word of reassurance.
"No need to panic. Keep your weapons ready and watch the dark corners. Unless you run into an infected with iron teeth and steel jaws, they won't be able to bite through the protective gear I issued you in a single strike. One team handles logistics, the other watches the perimeter. Don't get ambushed by an infected on the way out."
Executing Kyoko's commands, they began to systematically transport the items like ants moving a nest. Outside, Saito left the armored vehicle; Kyoko had now swapped roles with him, leaving him to handle the logistics while she took up watch inside the command vehicle.
Scanning the real-time map and seeing no red markers indicating danger, Kyoko couldn't help but feel a wave of relief settle over her.
"Captain Kyoko, supplies are completely packed and loaded."
"Then everyone get in the vehicles. We're heading back."
"Roger."
Kyoko stepped on the gas, driving the armored vehicle to lead the way back along their original route, managing to score a substantial amount of fuel from a gas station along the journey. With such a massive haul of supplies crammed into the interiors, there was barely any room left for the crew to sit.
Today was a massive harvest; on the way back, someone even began to belt out a song.
Though terribly out of tune, it did nothing to hide their joyous hearts. Zero casualties, low risk, high returns. Having a leader like Captain Kyoko truly felt like a blessing.
They would make another run tomorrow to continue hauling.
The more supplies they accumulated at home, the more at peace they felt.
