Milady glanced back and saw the "Hui"-shaped mechanism enter the pavilion. She quickly grabbed one sphere, shoved two more into her backpack, then took a few steps out and shouted, "I'm over here!"
The "Hui"-shaped mechanism slowly raised its long, upright head.
"All of you, watch this!"
Milady hoisted a metal sphere high above her head. Every eye in the hall was fixed on her hand. Light from the high windows cast a soft, bright sheen across its surface.
She lifted her index finger and tapped the sphere lightly with her ring.
The next moment, from an unnoticed shadow at the other end of the hall, a mechanism whirred to life.
It was only waist-high and hidden behind an attendant, so Milady couldn't actually see it. Yet, it was as if she could clearly feel its every expansion, connection, and breath... Its movements were smooth and fluid as it slowly unfolded, transforming into a waist-high, cane-shaped mechanism.
