Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Chain Attacks

Chapter 50: Chain Attacks

The pillow had been tossed in through the window by Lu Xiao'e the day before. Lu You had casually caught it and thrown it onto his bed. Later, after giving Lu Xiao'e the talismans and her sword back, he forgot to return the pillow as well.

No wonder he had slept so comfortably last night. Lu Xiao'e's pillow was made of much finer material—far superior to the stiff wooden pillows used by outer sect disciples.

Feeling a bit guilty, Lu You glanced at the pillow on his bed. He coughed awkwardly, picked it up, and prepared to toss it back through the window.

"No, no! I don't want something you've already slept on!"

Lu Xiao'e noticed the creases on the pillow and stomped her foot in anger. Instead of running down the stairs, she leapt directly out of the window and floated lightly down into the courtyard.

"You stinky Lu brat! Hold your talismans tight and come down here for your beating!"

Lu You thought for a moment, placed the pillow back on his bed, and jumped out of the window as well.

Thud

Lu You controlled his landing and managed to stay on his feet, but it was nowhere near as graceful as Lu Xiao'e's light descent.

'Evil Eye, you know what to do.'

Lu You secretly notified the Evil Eye. Lu Xiao'e had just jumped down from upstairs—perhaps that was some kind of movement technique.

Evil Eye: Boss, I know. A movement technique, right? I already recorded it.

Lu You snapped another branch from the small tree in the courtyard.

"Make your move."

"Hmph. I didn't sleep well, so I might not control my strength properly today. If you get hit, it'll hurt."

Lu Xiao'e's figure moved nimbly as she repeated the same move as before. This time, however, the wind from her swinging branch sounded much stronger, making her look somewhat fiercer.

But in the end, she still wasn't as formidable as one Lu Xiao'e plus one Zeng Yan.

After being tormented by both of them the entire night, Lu You was no longer the same Lu You as yesterday.

In the next instant, Lu You's branch struck first despite moving later. Each thrust landed precisely at the weakest points in Lu Xiao'e's willow-branch strikes. The impact disrupted her rhythm, and the sky full of sword shadows suddenly lost direction. Their speed faltered for a second.

Seizing that opening, Lu You's branch lunged forward like a venomous snake, viciously targeting Lu Xiao'e's chest. Even before the branch reached her, the terrifying killing intent he deliberately released surged outward.

'This kid... broke my Sea-Returning Hundred River Technique overnight?

Lu Xiao'e was truly shocked today. In just a single night, Lu You had completely seen through her attack. Their fight now felt almost rehearsed—Lu You's sturdy branch striking precisely at the weakest points of her force every single time.

Ninth-Heaven Fall Technique.

Lu Xiao'e suddenly changed her move. The countless sword shadows no longer gathered into a single point. Instead, they crashed down onto Lu You's branch like a waterfall falling from the sky.

As the "waterfall" descended, countless droplets splashed outward. Lu Xiao'e's wrist trembled in a strange motion, and those droplets turned out to be real streaks of sword light.

Crack

Lu You's branch shattered again.

This time it wasn't broken into two pieces—it was chopped into dozens of fragments.

"You lose again."

Lu Xiao'e bent the branch, then suddenly released it. The branch snapped back and flicked Lu You on the forehead with a loud smack.

"Hehe, amazing—really amazing."

Lu You beamed happily. Without hesitation, he stuffed ten talismans into Lu Xiao'e's hands.

"See you tomorrow."

After speaking, Lu You quickly darted back into the house. Once again there were the sounds of locks clicking and chains rattling as he tightly secured the doors and windows. Soon the room fell completely silent.

Standing in the courtyard, Lu Xiao'e's expression grew more serious.

Yesterday she had secretly investigated Lu You's background and learned about his performance during the recruitment competition.

'He couldn't even defeat a ninth level Qi Refining cultivator while holding a treasured artifact? What kind of horrendously fake news is that?'

Lu Xiao'e spat lightly.

This Lu You hid his strength far too well. With his swordsmanship, he could probably beat a tenth level Qi Refining cultivator senseless even with just a willow branch.

Yesterday she had secretly used the strength of peak tenth level Qi Refining cultivator along with a high-level sword technique, which already counted as bullying him. But just now, Lu You had actually broken through her move—and even forced her to use an early-stage Foundation Establishment level strength.

"There's no way he can break the Ninth-Heaven Fall Technique in just one night!"

Lu Xiao'e's eyes darted around as she thought.

Sword techniques were divided into High-rank, Human-rank, Spirit-rank, Heaven-rank, and Great Dao-rank.

Among them, High-rank sword techniques required inner disciples of the Verdant Cloud Sect to earn contribution points before they could learn them. Human-rank sword techniques were only mastered by the backbone elites of the sect. As for Spirit-rank techniques, even Golden Core elders treated them as their ultimate trump cards and would only pass them down to their personal disciples.

Sea-Returning Hundred River Technique was a High-rank sword technique, while Ninth-Heaven Fall Technique was a Human-rank sword technique—one level higher.

"What exactly is this Lu You doing inside his room?"

Curious, Lu Xiao'e glanced toward the house. Like a butterfly, she floated lightly to Lu You's window without making the slightest sound. Then she condensed spiritual energy at her fingertip and gently tapped the crack of the window, intending to open a small gap to peek inside.

But the next second, Lu Xiao'e frowned in pain.

"What the heck? Why is his window so hard?!"

Her finger contained spiritual energy—enough to crush even an iron wall—but she couldn't break open the window crack. If she applied more force, it would make noise, and Lu You would catch her spying.

Covering her finger and pouting unhappily, Lu Xiao'e drifted back from Lu You's window into her own.

"You stinky brat. You actually tampered with the doors and windows. Clearly you're guarding against me like I'm a thief! Hmph. I shouldn't have gone easy on you with just that forehead flick. Tomorrow I'll make sure you can't get out of bed for three days!"

Lu Xiao'e shut the window and looked at her long sword before drawing it.

"So the Sea-Returning Hundred River Technique can actually be broken like that..."

Muttering to herself, she began practicing sword movements in her room.

Meanwhile, Lu You returned to his room and followed his usual routine—first scattering several thousand Sharp Metal Talismans around. This was something he did almost instinctively, never expecting it would actually prove useful.

Lying back on his bed, Lu You eagerly entered the Blood Shadow space again.

The Evil Eye was very considerate this time. Inside the Blood Shadow space, it had even simulated a small two-story building. As soon as Lu You entered, Lu Xiao'e appeared at just the right moment, gracefully leaping down from the second floor, her skirt fluttering like a butterfly.

"Ahem."

Lu You coughed lightly and said to the Evil Eye, "Next time, when creating the Blood Shadow, you don't need to simulate clothing details. Just replace things like skirts with standard training clothes."

Evil Eye: Tsk, tsk.

Lu You: "Hmm?"

The Evil Eye hurriedly tried to please him.

Evil Eye: "Understood! Just a costume change, easy work."

Lu You didn't bother arguing with it. Instead, he began studying Lu Xiao'e's movement technique over and over again.

Although it looked like a simple leap, the changes in spiritual energy and technique were incredibly complex. As long as he mastered that single jump, he would essentially grasp the essence of the entire movement technique.

With perfect replication and simulation, the experience was even more convenient than guidance from a famous master.

Lu You practiced inside the Blood Shadow space for half the night. At last, he could move as lightly as Lu Xiao'e.

Within the Blood Shadow space, Lu You fully activated the movement technique—and instantly transformed into a dazzling red blur.
