(AMARI'S POV)
"I can't believe I was digging my face in roasted chicken while my sister almost got thrown in jail." Rudina's eyes followed me as I poured myself another cup of water, the fifth cup since I got back to the bungalow.
I wasn't sure of the exact reason for the intense thirst. It could be that Alpha Kaelen almost died, or that I almost got thrown in jail. Maybe it was because of the way he looked at me, how his eyes sunk into mine like he was getting reintroduced for the first time.
"Amari." I snapped out of my thoughts as Rudina pulled me back into the present with a light tap on my hand.
Worry was written all over her face as she said the next words.
"You said, Alpha Kaelen… he stood up for you, right?" She leaned in, hope in her eyes. "He defended you before his sister, the gamma."
"Yes." I sighed. "Yes, he did, Rudina."
She took my hand in hers, nodding. "I think he's a kind person, Amari. Maybe we should tell him the truth about Talon and—"
