Before coming here, Shireen had already asked Drogon about Meereen and learned that he was one of Queen Daenerys's three dragons.
Deep down, she had never truly accepted her father Stannis's claim to the Iron Throne, so calling Daenerys "Your Grace" or "Your Majesty" did not trouble her at all.
When Daenerys first heard the surname Baratheon, she froze for a moment.
She had not expected Drogon to bring the niece of the Usurper, Robert Baratheon.
But when she noticed the lingering scars of greyscale on half of Shireen's face and remembered what Drogon had told her earlier through his thoughts, she decided not to dwell on the conflict between their families over the Iron Throne.
She simply smiled gently and nodded to the girl.
Knowing Drogon had not informed Daenerys beforehand about her arrival, Shireen had been nervous.
Seeing Daenerys's warm smile, however, eased her worries, and she returned the smile.
"This is my... my wife, Shae," Tyrion introduced.
The moment she heard him say it, Shae trembled.
She stared at Tyrion in disbelief, tears instantly filling her eyes.
After a moment's hesitation, she nervously performed a curtsy she had only recently learned.
Noticing that Tyrion introduced only her given name and not a family name, everyone present guessed that Shae came from humble origins—perhaps she had no surname at all.
"Welcome to Meereen," Daenerys said kindly, nodding to Shae before turning back to the others.
She signaled Missandei to bring over a few chairs from the edge of the hall, then resumed the previous discussion.
"Daario, who do you believe is behind the Sons of the Harpy?"
Just as Daario was about to answer, Tyrion suddenly stepped forward as though he wished to speak.
Daenerys looked at him expectantly.
"Your Majesty, please allow us to leave for now."
Tyrion knew that Drogon had accidentally brought them into the council chamber.
Now that matters of state were being discussed, he felt it proper to excuse himself.
Drogon might not understand court etiquette, but he certainly did.
"You needn't leave. Stay and sit with us."
Daenerys stopped him.
Since Drogon had brought Tyrion to Meereen, she had already guessed why he had come.
She had no objection to allowing him to listen.
Tyrion was genuinely stunned.
He had expected hostility from Daenerys, considering he was a Lannister.
Instead, she had welcomed him graciously and even allowed him to attend a royal council meeting.
The others in the chamber were equally surprised.
They could not understand why Daenerys seemed to trust Tyrion so readily despite having just met him.
The most shocked of all was Jorah Mormont.
He had followed Daenerys since Pentos and knew better than anyone how deeply she hated Robert Baratheon and Jaime Lannister.
Yet today she had warmly accepted both Robert's niece and Tyrion Lannister.
Not only that—she was allowing them into her council.
Is it simply because Drogon brought them? Jorah wondered.
That was the only explanation he could find.
Still, he disagreed.
Drogon himself could be trusted without question.
The people he brought, however, were another matter.
In Jorah's opinion, deceiving a dragon might actually be easier than deceiving a person.
Daenerys should have tested Tyrion's loyalty first.
But since the queen had already spoken, Jorah could not openly object.
He resolved to investigate Tyrion's reasons for abandoning House Lannister and seeking out Daenerys.
After Varys pledged himself to Daenerys, his role in Meereen had been limited largely to gathering information within Slaver's Bay.
News from Westeros was usually passed to Drogon through agents in Flea Bottom.
Varys himself assumed that informing the mysterious dragon was effectively the same as informing Queen Daenerys.
In reality, Daenerys and her followers knew surprisingly little about recent events in Westeros.
They knew nothing about the Red Wedding at the Twins.
Nor had they heard of the Purple Wedding in King's Landing.
The same communication gap applied to Tyrion's journey to Meereen, which partly explained the awkward circumstances of his arrival.
One could even say it indirectly caused Tyrion considerable trouble.
After Daenerys agreed to let him stay, Tyrion hesitated briefly before accepting.
Silently, he thanked her for the trust she had shown.
His own presence could be justified.
Shae's could not.
It wasn't that he feared she might reveal state secrets.
Rather, as his wife, she would undoubtedly feel uncomfortable remaining during such discussions.
He gently tugged at her sleeve and looked toward Daenerys, indicating his intention to escort her outside.
Daenerys nodded.
She had already noticed Shae's discomfort.
Waiting elsewhere would be better for her.
As Tyrion led Shae toward the exit, Shireen instinctively rose and followed.
"You should stay," Tyrion suddenly said to the girl.
Shireen blinked in surprise.
She had no idea why Tyrion wanted her to remain.
Everyone else looked equally puzzled.
They understood why Shae, a family member, should leave.
But why should a little girl stay?
[Shireen can learn something here as well.]
Drogon immediately understood Tyrion's reasoning.
As the others glanced toward Shireen, they gradually realized Tyrion intended this as a learning opportunity.
Still, they struggled to imagine what political experience such a young girl could possibly gain.
After seeing Shae safely out, Tyrion returned and took his seat.
Daenerys then turned to Jorah.
"Ser Jorah, please explain the cause of the unrest in Meereen to our new friends."
At those words, Drogon perked up as well.
When he had left, Meereen had appeared calm on the surface, yet tensions had simmered beneath.
Three days earlier, several murders had taken place.
The victims included Unsullied soldiers and newly freed citizens.
One of the murdered freedmen had been a builder who had registered publicly in the city square.
The killers wore golden Harpy masks.
After each murder, they left behind a crude image of the Harpy—much like the blood-written messages slaves had once left after killing the Great Masters.
One of Daario's men had managed to capture a member of the Sons of the Harpy.
However, despite interrogation, he revealed nothing useful.
Before Daenerys could publicly question the prisoner, he was secretly killed by Mossador.
Mossador was the young freedman who had helped organize the slave uprising when Grey Worm first infiltrated Meereen.
He had previously urged Daenerys to execute the captive Son of the Harpy and use the Unsullied to crush all resistance from the Great Masters and Harpy supporters.
Initially, Daenerys had considered following his advice.
But Barristan Selmy persuaded her otherwise, recommending a public trial instead.
None of them expected Mossador to ignore the queen's orders.
Driven by his hatred of the former masters, he murdered the prisoner in secret.
Daenerys was furious.
Not only had Mossador disobeyed her command and acted independently, but his actions had also prevented her from carrying out the public trial and providing justice in the eyes of the people.
In the end, she had no choice but to publicly execute Mossador by beheading him.
