Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 – The Boy Dumbledore Couldn’t Read

Neville's terrified screams instantly drew everyone's attention.

The students looked up toward the sky in alarm, and panic quickly spread across the training grounds.

"Professor!"

"Neville's losing control!"

"He's too high!"

Madam Hooch looked upward and immediately turned pale.

Neville clung desperately to his broom while it shot wildly through the air in completely unpredictable directions.

"I told you not to fly too high before learning proper control!" Madam Hooch shouted furiously.

But beneath the anger was obvious panic.

Wizards were not invincible.

If Neville fell from that height, surviving would already be considered miraculous. Even then, he would likely spend the rest of his life confined to St Mungo's.

Madam Hooch instantly drew her wand, preparing to cast a spell to safely pull Neville down from the broom.

Unfortunately, events immediately spiralled even further out of control.

Neville's broom suddenly lunged directly toward her at terrifying speed.

"WHAT—"

Before Madam Hooch could react, Neville slammed straight into her.

Both teacher and student screamed.

Madam Hooch tumbled dramatically onto the grass while Neville's broom rebounded back into the air and continued racing around wildly.

If everyone present hadn't known Neville's personality already, they might genuinely have suspected attempted murder.

Meanwhile, Neville's uncontrolled broom hurtled past one of the castle towers. His robes suddenly snagged violently on a row of decorative spikes protruding from the stone wall.

Riiip!

Neville was left dangling helplessly in mid-air.

For one brief, glorious second, he thought he had survived.

Then the fabric started tearing.

Slowly.

Horribly.

Neville looked downward.

The ground looked very far away.

His face instantly turned white.

"HELP—!"

At that exact moment, Logan reacted.

Still flying high above the training grounds, he instantly recognised the danger. Without hesitation, he raised his wand toward Neville.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

A powerful surge of magic shot outward.

Although Logan's Levitation Charm remained only at Beginner rank, his natural magical power combined with the system's precision control allowed the spell to stabilise almost perfectly.

Just before Neville hit the ground, an invisible force caught him midair.

Neville stopped less than a metre above the grass.

The entire training ground fell silent.

Logan slowly lowered himself from the sky while maintaining the spell.

Honestly…

Neville was absurdly heavy.

Using a beginner-level Levitation Charm to stop someone falling from that height was genuinely difficult, even for him.

Madam Hooch stared upward at Logan with complete disbelief.

"What remarkable control…"

Her expression looked genuinely stunned now.

"A first-year student successfully locking onto a falling target while flying at high speed…" she murmured. "And using the Levitation Charm with enough precision to stop him safely…"

Even she seemed shaken by what she had witnessed.

Madam Hooch immediately straightened herself and announced loudly, "Ten points to Gryffindor for Logan Anderson's outstanding flying ability and quick-thinking rescue!"

The Gryffindors instantly erupted in cheers.

Then Madam Hooch continued sternly, "However, because Mr Longbottom ignored instructions and nearly caused a serious accident, Gryffindor will lose five points."

The Gryffindors' excitement immediately weakened.

Honestly, they were already becoming emotionally numb to point deductions at this stage.

At least this time they still ended up with a net gain.

That alone qualified as a victory.

To ensure Neville hadn't suffered any hidden injuries, Madam Hooch quickly escorted him toward the Hospital Wing. Before leaving, she glared at the remaining students with terrifying intensity.

"Nobody is to fly without my permission," she warned sharply.

Then she paused briefly.

"…Except Mr Anderson."

The students immediately turned to look at Logan again.

Within seconds, a crowd of first-years surrounded him excitedly.

"That was amazing!"

"How did you fly that fast?"

"You saved Neville!"

Even Hermione joined the group, though her expression looked more complicated than the others.

Watching Logan standing calmly at the centre of the crowd, glowing beneath everyone's admiration, Hermione suddenly felt strangely uneasy.

The distance between them was growing larger and larger.

At least in terms of magical ability, she no longer knew how to catch up to him.

Meanwhile, unnoticed by most students, Draco Malfoy bent down and picked up a small glass sphere lying in the grass.

Neville's Remembrall.

It must have fallen from his pocket during the accident earlier.

Malfoy stared at the object thoughtfully.

Then a slow smirk appeared on his face.

He raised the Remembrall high into the air and loudly mocked Neville's pathetic flying performance.

Harry immediately snapped back at him.

As always, the two boys descended into argument almost instantly.

The shouting escalated rapidly before Malfoy suddenly took off on his broom, tossing the Remembrall into the air mockingly while daring Harry to catch it.

Naturally, Harry chased after him without hesitation.

The rest unfolded almost exactly as it had in the original timeline.

Harry's unbelievable reflexes and natural flying talent quickly caught Professor McGonagall's attention after she arrived at the scene. As both a strict professor and an enthusiastic Quidditch supporter, she immediately recognised his potential.

The Gryffindor Quidditch team had been searching desperately for a talented Seeker.

And Harry Potter looked perfect for the role.

.....

Far away from the noisy training grounds, Albus Dumbledore sat quietly in a hidden corner of the castle, observing everything through magical means.

He had been watching for quite some time.

More specifically…

He had been watching Logan Anderson.

Originally, when Professor McGonagall informed him that a first-year student had performed wandless magic, even Dumbledore's calm composure had been shaken.

Wandless casting was extraordinarily rare.

For an eleven-year-old child to achieve it naturally bordered on impossible.

Yet as time passed, Logan continued displaying one astonishing talent after another.

Exceptional magical control.

Outstanding intelligence.

Rapid spell mastery.

Unprecedented flying ability.

And perhaps most concerning of all…

The possibility that the boy possessed an affinity connected to an Obscurus.

At first, Dumbledore had felt hopeful.

The magical world desperately needed gifted young wizards.

But gradually, that hope transformed into unease.

Because Logan was simply too exceptional.

In some ways…

He was even more talented than Tom Riddle had been at the same age.

That thought alone disturbed Dumbledore deeply.

He was already an old man. The future of magical Britain would eventually belong to the next generation. And if nothing unexpected occurred, then one day Logan Anderson might stand at the very centre of the wizarding world itself.

Dumbledore feared only one thing.

That Logan might walk the same path Tom once had.

Another brilliant child.

Another future monster.

Another disaster waiting to happen.

Yet strangely, that wasn't what troubled Dumbledore most.

Instead, his thoughts repeatedly returned to words spoken decades ago by an old friend… and old enemy.

Gellert Grindelwald.

"The magical and non-magical worlds will eventually collide," Grindelwald had once said. "And when that era of chaos arrives, someone will rise who can accomplish what neither of us could."

Dumbledore still remembered those words clearly.

"He will become a legend," Grindelwald had told him quietly. "And he will lead the wizarding world toward a completely new future."

For reasons Dumbledore himself could not explain, those words continued resurfacing in his mind whenever he looked at Logan Anderson.

It made him deeply uneasy.

That unease had ultimately driven him to do something he normally considered unacceptable.

During the Sorting Ceremony, Dumbledore had secretly used Legilimency on an eleven-year-old child for the first time in his life.

He had wanted to glimpse the truth hidden inside Logan's mind.

Instead…

He found nothing.

The moment Dumbledore's magic attempted to enter, an unknown force blocked him completely.

His Legilimency failed.
