Chapter 249 - Chapter 247

## **Chapter 247: Quiet Between Storms**

### **Scene I – Stella**

The command center of the Twelfth Sector was never truly silent.

Even now, deep within General Dagon's private office, there was a constant, low hum—the distant pulse of generators, the faint shifting of data streams, the soft mechanical rhythm of a war machine that never truly slept.

But compared to the chaos of battle…

It was quiet.

Too quiet.

The lights were dimmed, casting long shadows across the room. A massive holotable dominated the center, projecting layers of fleet formations, hyperspace routes, supply chains, and threat markers. Blue and red indicators flickered across the display like stars in conflict.

Stella leaned against the doorway for a moment, watching him.

Dagon stood with his back to her, unmoving, his attention fixed entirely on the holotable. His posture was rigid, focused—like he was still on the battlefield, even though the battle had ended hours ago.

*Of course he is…*

She sighed softly.

She had grown used to this.

It was part of him.

Part of *them*.

Their relationship—hidden, unspoken within the Order—was something fragile and complicated. Known only to a select few, carefully kept from the wider Jedi Council. Not because it was forbidden…

…but because it wouldn't be understood.

Not with him.

Dagon wasn't like the others.

He didn't pretend to walk purely in the light.

He didn't deny what he was.

"Gray," he called it.

A balance.

A necessity.

And she had accepted that.

Even if it still unsettled her sometimes.

*A soldier thrown back into war after a lifetime of it…*

She pushed herself off the doorway and stepped inside.

"I thought I'd find you here."

Dagon didn't turn immediately.

"It is natural," he said calmly, "after a battle to return and examine new operations. New plans. New enemies."

Stella rolled her eyes, walking closer.

"Blah, blah, blah," she muttered. "You always sound like a briefing report."

That got a reaction.

A faint smirk.

Small, but real.

She stepped beside him, glancing at the holotable.

"Still working?" she asked softly. "You just crushed one of the largest Separatist fleets we've seen in months."

"Which means they will adapt," he replied without hesitation. "Grievous escaped. That changes the next phase of the war."

Stella studied him for a moment.

"You're not even a little proud of that victory, are you?"

Dagon finally turned his head slightly, meeting her gaze.

"Pride gets people killed."

She huffed.

"You are *impossible* sometimes."

"And you are persistent," he replied.

A pause.

Then—

A shift.

The tension eased, just slightly.

Stella smiled faintly and stepped closer, her tone softening.

"You know… we're allowed to rest," she said. "Even generals."

"Not now," he said. "Not here."

"Oh, come on," she teased, moving behind him and wrapping her arms loosely around his neck. "You're always so strict… except when we're alone."

That earned her a sharper glance.

One that made her cheeks warm slightly.

"You're distracting me," he said.

"That's the point."

For a moment, he didn't move.

Didn't speak.

Just stood there, caught between duty and something else.

Something quieter.

Something human.

Then—

The commlink beeped.

Loud.

Intrusive.

Perfectly timed.

Stella groaned, dropping her head lightly against his shoulder.

"Of course."

Dagon exhaled slowly.

"Duty calls."

### **Scene II – The Chancellor**

The hologram flickered to life.

A familiar figure emerged in pale blue light—Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, his expression warm, composed, and carefully measured.

"General Dagon," he said smoothly. "I suppose congratulations are in order after the defense of Lianna—and the destruction of General Grievous' fleet."

Dagon straightened slightly.

"Thank you, Chancellor," he replied. "But I assume this message is not solely to congratulate me."

A faint smile touched Palpatine's lips.

"Perceptive, as always."

He clasped his hands behind his back.

"I have reviewed the proposal you submitted to High Command."

Dagon's eyes narrowed slightly.

"The operation against Raxus Prime."

"Yes."

A brief pause.

"Unfortunately," Palpatine continued, "there has been… resistance."

"Resistance?" Dagon repeated, his tone sharpening. "From whom?"

"A coalition of loyalist senators," Palpatine said. "Led by Bail Organa and Padmé Amidala."

Stella's expression shifted slightly at the names.

"They are opposing the offensive," Palpatine continued. "Citing concerns over potential civilian casualties and escalation of the conflict."

Dagon's gaze hardened.

"How would they even know of the planned attack?" he asked. "They are not military."

Palpatine's smile did not fade—but something in his eyes darkened.

"It is… a logical conclusion, my friend," he said. "Raxus Prime is widely known as the Confederacy's political center. And your sector controls the Perlemian Trade Route."

He stepped slightly closer within the hologram.

"Additionally, several CIS-aligned worlds within your sector have already surrendered or accepted Republic occupation—including Randon."

Dagon said nothing.

"They are… wary," Palpatine added, "of provoking further instability."

A quiet silence followed.

Then—

"I understand, Chancellor," Dagon said at last, his voice controlled.

He shifted slightly, glancing at the holotable.

"In the meantime, I will continue securing the Twelfth Sector. There has been increased activity from Hutt cartel vessels in the region."

Stella glanced at him briefly.

"I believe," Dagon continued, "since they are operating outside Hutt Space protections, they can be considered legitimate targets."

Palpatine nodded approvingly.

"Yes… that would be most efficient."

Another pause.

Then—

"However," Palpatine added, his tone shifting slightly, "I advise postponing any major offensive operations for now."

Dagon's eyes flickered.

"You are currently one of the Republic's most effective generals," the Chancellor continued. "And I suspect your… talents may soon be required elsewhere."

A subtle weight lingered behind those words.

Unspoken.

But clear.

Dagon inclined his head slightly.

"As you wish, Chancellor."

The hologram began to fade.

"Well done, General," Palpatine said softly. "Continue your excellent work."

And then—

He was gone.

---

The room fell quiet again.

Stella crossed her arms lightly.

"Well," she said, "that was… interesting."

Dagon didn't respond immediately.

"He's watching you," she added.

"I know."

"You don't seem concerned."

"I am," Dagon said simply.

That made her pause.

### **Scene III – Quiet Again**

The tension lingered for a moment longer.

Then—

It broke.

"Well," Stella said, stepping closer again, a faint smile returning, "where were we?"

Dagon turned toward her fully this time.

For once—

No holotable.

No battle.

No war.

Just her.

He reached out, pulling her closer without hesitation.

"I believe," he said quietly, "you were distracting me."

She smiled.

"I was doing a very good job."

"Debatable."

"Oh?"

He didn't answer.

Instead, he leaned down—

And kissed her.

For a moment, the war didn't exist.

No fleets.

No enemies.

No shadows.

Just a brief, fragile peace in the middle of chaos.

When they finally pulled apart, Stella rested her forehead lightly against his.

"You should do that more often," she murmured.

Dagon allowed himself the faintest smile.

"Maybe," he said.

Outside, the stars stretched endlessly across the void.

And somewhere out there—

The war waited.

But for now—

They didn't.
