Draven straightened his massive frame, releasing his chokehold on Stephen just enough for the man to slump heavily to the floor, gasping for air.
"Yes," Draven said, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. His piercing eyes locked onto mine, completely unbothered by my shock. "Because I know my little wife. You would never just sit on a bed and meekly wait for my return."
My breath hitched. I opened my mouth, the words tumbling out in a stammer. "But... but if you knew—"
"I didn't ambush you, Duchess," Malaki interrupted smoothly from the doorway, crossing his arms with a lingering smirk. "I was merely hunting for your Duke. It just so happened our paths crossed."
My eyes widened as the pieces finally clicked together in my mind. It was true. Malaki hadn't been guiding Stephen to us; he had been tracking Draven, and we had simply run right into the middle of their dangerous game.
