Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Roman knew how Catelyn and Silas's breakup had gone—it was about a year ago now. When he had first found out, he had called to check up on Catelyn. He chatted with her, throwing in his usual jokes, which had gone fine. But when he asked Catelyn how things were going with Silas, she told him she had no business with Silas anymore because they had broken up.

Roman was confused and thought it was a prank. But Catelyn didn't sound like she was joking, and it wasn't April Fool's Day; her tone was deadly serious. He couldn't quite believe it, since Silas and Catelyn had been together for so many years. So, he called Silas to confirm if it was true. Silas spoke in a solemn tone and confirmed they had indeed split. Roman couldn't pry any further, sensing that Silas was in no mood for a long conversation.

Months passed, and the reality finally hit him—they were really done. Catelyn had moved on, traveling and going on trips. Ever since, Roman could see that Silas had been withdrawing from women. The pain was still visible in his eyes, and Silas clearly felt terrible about the whole situation as he took another drink.

"You don't have to worry about not having a woman," Roman said. "I've got a long history with women too, and that's why I'm single. Most of them aren't my type." Roman explained and to be honest they were a lot of women he had slept with he didn't think he would be able to settle down yet since he wasn't sure if he could be committed yet and didn't know if they was a right woman who was going to be in his life.

Silas thought that was interesting—and a little false. He knew his friend to be a womanizer. Roman's specialty was flirting.

"What do you know about women?" Silas asked, curious. Catyln wasn't like any other woman she was his world his happiness, his everything and the woman he was in love with and still in love with.

"I know A lot," Roman answered. "And I do know one thing: don't piss them off."

Silas chuckled. His friend was right.

Roman was glad to see Silas smile, even a little. He felt sorry for Silas, knowing the breakup had hit him hard. Catyln was a problem on her own. She could be sassy, and he knew her well—they'd all been friends since high school. Silas had definitely spoiled her rotten, and Roman didn't like that Silas still felt bad about the breakup when she was moving on without a care.

"I'm ordering more drinks. On me," Roman said.

"I'm not drinking much," Silas replied.

"Sure," Roman agreed, taking a sip of his drink.

Silas's attention shifted to the bustling music. Roman entertained himself by taking a proper look around the room. There were women beside the guys, serving drinks. One set a tray of champagne down when a man in casual clothes with an eyebrow piercing slapped her on the butt. The guy next to him smiled sheepishly, knowing his friend found her attractive.

The woman walked away unfazed by the customer's action. The guy with the piercing licked his lips, watching her hips sway as she left. She was a little pissed off but also thrilled when his hand came in contact with her buttocks—she knew it was expected and She adjusted her skirt.

Then Roman's gaze landed on some ladies dressed in a purple polo shirt and black skirt, he took a glance at them as they were walking past their room with a tray full of champagne before they faded into the background.

Roman and Silas both talked about family, drinks and work before they headed back home.

Some days later at Crescent company

Roman sat in his office chair behind his desk. He was at work and found himself wondering how Catyln, the sassy princess, was doing. She was his close friend. He decided to call her and picked up his phone from the table.

At a lavish mall, Catyln, a woman in her late twenties with dirty long blonde hair, raven dark eyes, pointed proportionate nose natural pink glossy lips, high cheek bone, average height stepped out of her car. She was dressed in a orange casual top and black fashion pants. Her phone rang it was Roman. She answered as she removed her sunglasses.

"Hi, Catyln," Roman said, his tone energetic as always.

"Hi, Roman." Catyln said, her tone neutral and welcoming.

"How's life?"

"Good. And you?" she answered.

"Interesting," he said, twirling his chair.

"With the ladies, why wouldn't it be fun?" Catyln said she was teasing him.

Roman chuckled. "You know me well."

Catyln smiled. "I guess so."

"Why did you call?"

"Thought of you and wondered how you're doing."

"I'm actually at the mall. I have some shopping to do," she said, her tone sassy.

"I see."

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"I'm at work," he said.

"Okay. So how's work?"

"Works fine," Roman replied like he was bored to talk about working.

"That's good, she responded.

"Have you heard from Silas?" Roman inquired, wondering if she heard from him.

"Silas?" She he asked. It had been a long time since she'd actually talked to him.

"Yes, him," Roman replied, curious.

"How is he?" she asked.

"He's fine," Roman answered, wondering if she had forgotten about Silas so quickly.

Catelyn felt a flicker of nostalgia hearing his name. They had shared fond memories together, and he was sweet, though she hoped he had carried on with his life.

"Okay," Catelyn said, not knowing what else to say.

"I called to check on how you've been doing," Roman said.

"Thanks, Roman," Catelyn said with a bit of appreciation.

Roman was pleased. "You must be busy. I'll leave you to buy some splendid dresses. They'll definitely look pretty on you."

Catelyn chuckled. "And I'm expecting your next call."

"I know. It's good hearing from you, Catelyn."

"Thanks, Roman. Same," Catelyn said airily.

"Bye, Catelyn."

"Bye, Roman."

The call ended, and Catelyn slipped her phone into her mini handbag. The thought of Silas lingered, but she dismissed it—she didn't want to think about him when she was focused on moving forward. She slid her glasses back on and entered the mall.

Roman stared at his phone after hanging up. He had wanted to see if she still cared about Silas. She did—well, slightly. But he knew Catelyn. She cared about herself first, and walking away from Silas was just who she was. She probably hadn't considered Silas's feelings at all, despite how much he truly loved her.

He'd been friends with both of them since high school, so he saw their true characters for what they were. And Catelyn? She was the type who didn't care about anyone, and nobody messed with her.

He set the phone down on the table, leaned back in his chair, and muttered in a playful tone, "Catelyn… sometimes a sassy princess."
