Three more days passed.
Gran's mastery over the power of Destruction had grown noticeably steadier, and the time had finally come for him to leave the Sacred World of the Kai. Beneath the great tree, Gran stood with young Broly, facing Beerus and the others.
"Whis, I need one more favor." Gran kept his hand resting firmly on Broly's shoulder.
"Speak," Whis replied, holding his scepter. As his disciple, he was willing to help Gran with almost anything, provided it didn't cross a major line of principle.
"Help Broly. Give him the ability to survive in the vacuum of space." Gran patted the boy's shoulder. As a Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly could survive in a vacuum for a short burst, but sustained survival was beyond him for now.
One could achieve this through the refinement of their "dimension" to the level of King Yemma, or by wishing upon the Dragon Balls. Of course, an Angel could do it even more easily—Whis had once resurrected Frieza as a reward after the Tournament of Power, so granting the ability to breathe in space was child's play.
"A simple matter." Since it wasn't for Gran himself, Whis didn't mind. He waved his scepter, and a spark of light dove into Broly's body. "There. From now on, Broly can survive in the cosmos."
Whis then added playfully, "Of course, if a force greater than mine interferes with him, he might find himself unable to breathe out there again."
The group: "..."
You're the most terrifying thing in Universe 7—who else is going to have power greater than yours?
"Then I'm off to practice my Destruction. Take care, everyone!" Gran waved a final goodbye. Broly, having learned basic manners, followed suit. With a sharp shink, Gran used Instant Transmission to vanish, taking Broly with him.
The Sacred World of the Kai was left to the Old Kai, Shin, Beerus, and Whis. Kibito had long since been sent away by Shin to conduct field observations of the universe. The realm was peaceful, with its rolling green hills and clouds drifting lazily in the breeze.
A moment after Gran left, Beerus broke the silence. "Whis, how long do you think it'll take him to bring his Destruction up to the Rule Level?"
"Why do you keep asking things like that?" Whis asked, amused. "Just a few days ago, you bet it would take him half a month just to grasp the concept."
Beerus huffed, looking away. "..."
"Don't worry. Everything is going according to plan," Whis said, not elaborating further. He and Beerus turned into a streak of light and departed the realm as well.
At the edge of the North Galaxy, where stars were sparse, two figures suddenly appeared on a lush green planet. Their arrival immediately alerted the local wildlife.
"ROAR!"
A dozen massive, ox-like beasts charged toward the newcomers.
"Oh! Fresh ingredients the second we land!" Gran's eyes lit up. He shouted, "Broly, go get 'em!"
"Okay, Big Brother Gran! I'm on it!" Broly swung his arms, his short legs turning into a blur as he charged headlong into the stampede.
However... POW!
The space-oxen were no match for Broly's raw power. With a single punch, Broly accidentally reduced one of the beasts to a red mist.
Gran stared, speechless. How am I supposed to eat that? Realizing he had to handle it himself, he moved like a flash of white light.
Thump-thump-thump!
In an instant, the remaining dozen oxen collapsed. Gran's control was perfect; the beasts were neatly lined up on the grass, each with a identical, clean fatal strike to the neck.
"If you bleed them out immediately, the meat won't be gamey," Gran said, clapping his hands. He pointed toward a distant forest. "Broly, go gather some firewood."
He could have cooked them with energy blasts, but firewood always gave the meat a better aroma.
"Got it, Big Brother Gran!" Broly had already sampled Gran's cooking back at the Kai's world. He knew that if he wanted the good stuff, he had to follow orders. The little guy scurried off on his short legs and returned moments later... dragging a three-hundred-foot-tall ancient tree.
Gran's eye twitched. Is this kid for real? Who uses a massive, wet, living tree for a barbecue? He ended up going into the woods himself to bring back some properly dried logs.
After prepping the meat, Gran tossed out a Hoipoi Capsule he'd gotten from Bulma on Earth. Out popped a massive cabinet filled with every seasoning imaginable. As a true foodie, Gran never traveled without his supplies. Soon, plumes of blue smoke rose, carrying an irresistible aroma across the plains.
A massive bonfire crackled on the grassland, surrounded by a dozen skewered, skinned space-oxen. It was a spectacular sight.
"Big Brother Gran, you said you were going to destroy a planet. Are you going to destroy the one we're on?" Broly asked as he sat by the fire. After a few days with Gran, he had become much more outgoing.
"No," Gran replied, shaking his head. This planet was just a waypoint for his Instant Transmission. The planet he intended to destroy was one that had no life-signs left.
"That's good," Broly said, grinning as he watched the meat sizzle.
Gran looked at him and sighed. He thought the kid was worried about the environment, but it turned out he just didn't want to lose his source of "delicious animals."
"Alright, time to eat!" Gran stood up and looked at a dim, lifeless planet visible in the sky. "We'll fill our bellies, then go blow that thing up."
Broly lunged at the food like a starving wolf. He didn't even care about the heat, grabbing a whole ox and tearing into it. Gran laughed; having the little guy around was actually pretty entertaining. He quickly joined in before Broly could polish off the entire herd.
Two hours later, the oxen were gone, and a pile of bones stood ten meters high.
"Big Brother Gran's food is so good," Broly said, patting his bloated stomach with a look of pure bliss.
"There's plenty more where that came from," Gran said, hauling the boy up. He looked back at the dim planet. "Come on. Let's go destroy it."
They soared into the sky. As they broke through the atmosphere and entered the vacuum, Gran checked on Broly. The boy showed zero signs of discomfort, moving as easily as he did on land. Whis's power was working perfectly.
Gran grabbed Broly by the back of his collar. "Hold tight!"
Whoosh!
In a flash of light, they crossed the void and landed on the barren, desolate world next door. It was a wasteland of jagged rocks and dust, devoid of any life—a planet that had reached the end of its lifespan.
"Broly, go wait over there. I'll teach you some combat techniques later." Gran sent the boy to a safe distance and began his training.
He started small—pebble-sized stones.
POP!
A stone vanished in his hand, followed by a sharp ripple of energy. After each destruction, Gran closed his eyes to review the process, checking for flaws. Only then would he move to the next stone. In the first hour, he destroyed five stones. Slow, but steady.
In the second hour, he destroyed ten. The progress was accelerating. He could feel the power of Destruction within him changing—like a small stream growing into a river. He pushed himself harder. By the end of the first day, he had destroyed five hundred stones.
As a god, this level of exertion was negligible. But destroying rocks all day was mind-numbingly boring. To break the monotony, he took Broly back to the green planet for a feast, then returned to the wasteland to spar. This was his "little brother," after all; he had to train him properly.
"Broly! Attack me with everything you've got!" Gran beckoned to the boy.
Broly kicked off the ground, leaving a massive crater behind as he lunged at Gran. Gran didn't dodge; he suppressed his power to Broly's level and met him head-on.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The wasteland echoed with the sound of their impacts. Broly only knew basic moves he'd learned from Paragus, so Gran guided his movements during the fight. After an hour, Broly's technique and combat sense showed visible improvement.
"Big Brother Gran, take this!" Broly appeared behind Gran. After his outburst on Vampa, his base power had stabilized at 1 million. He threw a punch aimed at Gran's lower back.
Gran chuckled, swaying to the side. "I'm teaching you skills, and you're trying to sneak-attack me?" He countered with a light punch to Broly's gut.
"Gah!" Broly went flying, smashing through a barren mountain before coming to a stop.
Seeing the mountain crumble into millions of fragments, Gran's eyes lit up. "I wanted more small stones to destroy anyway. You're doing a great job prepping the materials for me!"
Gran flew over. Just as Broly tried to climb out of the rubble, Gran's hand pressed down on his head, slamming him back into the debris.
BOOM!
The massive boulder beneath Broly shattered. For the next while, Broly took a thorough beating. Gran kept his strength perfectly matched to the boy's level, ensuring no real damage was done while forcing Broly's instincts to evolve. Eventually, however, Gran got a bit too carried away, and Broly's aura started to turn volatile. His power level spiked toward 200 million. Gran immediately knocked him unconscious before he could snap.
The sparring session left the wasteland even more pulverized. While waiting for Broly to wake up, Gran went back to destroying the rubble.
Half a day later, Broly stirred. "Ow..." He sat up, rubbing the back of his head. "That hurt! You didn't hold back at all, Big Brother Gran!"
"Haha, sorry about that. I got a little into it," Gran said sheepishly, setting down a stone.
Broly lowered his head. "I lost control again, didn't I?"
"It's okay. We'll fix that soon." Gran reached out and ruffled the boy's hair.
Once Broly felt better, Gran drew a line in the dirt and stepped back thirty meters. It looked like the training Gohan gave Goten before the World Martial Arts Tournament. "Broly, see that pile of rocks? Throw them at me."
Broly didn't ask why. He grabbed a fist-sized rock and hurled it with all his might.
"Hakai!" Gran shouted, raising his hand. The flying rock vanished instantly, followed by a ripple of energy. "Perfect! Keep 'em coming!"
Broly worked with renewed vigor. A month passed in this fashion. Then, one day...
BOOM!
The entire barren planet finally shattered into countless fragments.
"Hakai!" "Hakai!"
Floating in the void of space, Gran—still wearing his bulky gravity suit—systematically erased the drifting remains of the world. After another half-month, the planet was gone. Completely.
"Phew! Finally destroyed a whole planet!" Gran floated in the empty space where the world had once been. He closed his eyes to reflect. Before leaving the Kai's realm, his "Hakai energy" had been as thin as a hair. Now, it was as thick as his wrist.
"I'd call this Entry Level!" Gran snapped his eyes open, and a faint purple aura flickered around him. This was the Aura of Destruction—putting him on par with Vegeta's initial level in the manga. But it wasn't a "Rule" yet. He needed to keep going.
"Broly, let's go!" Gran grabbed the boy and vanished.
Far away, on a tiny planet in the Otherworld, the short, stout North Kai was elegantly eating a steak. Suddenly, the two antennae on his head twitched. Another planet had been destroyed.
Who is it? King Kai stood up and hurried to his observation point to scan the North Galaxy. He nearly fell over when he saw a familiar figure. The Candidate God of Destruction!
"Wh-why is that Great One out destroying planets again?" King Kai stammered, his face turning pale. He knew it was the duty of such gods to prune the universe, so he wasn't exactly worried for the galaxy—he was worried for his own tiny planet. Years ago, he had offended Beerus, and his world had been shrunk to its current size. He'd been the laughingstock of the other three Kais ever since.
King Kai immediately ducked into a protective crouch. Please don't notice me, please don't notice me!
Twitch, twitch.
His antennae moved again. He saw the Candidate God of Destruction appear on a dark, ominous planet. It was a dead world, clearly marked for deletion. But in the center of the planet stood a square altar.
King Kai's eyes went wide. That altar... he'd seen it before. A memory flashed through his mind.
The sealing site of Bojack's gang!!
Long ago, when Beerus was in a long slumber and the Supreme Kai had vanished, a band of thugs had terrorized the galaxy. They were the Hera Clan, led by Bojack. They were incredibly dangerous—compared to them, the current Frieza was nothing. Back then, no one could stop them, so the four Kais had combined their power to seal them away on this very planet.
"Ha... Haha! Hahaha!!" King Kai jumped up, dancing with joy. "The thugs who terrorized the galaxy? You're nothing in front of a Candidate God of Destruction!"
Sealing Bojack had been a desperate move because they couldn't win a direct fight. But now, the heir to the Hakai had arrived at the prison. If the planet was on his hit list, Bojack was finished.
"I have to tell the others!" King Kai shouted.
North Kai: "Hey! Hey! Can you three hear me?"
South Kai: "Talk or get off the line, shorty!"
East Kai: "Hurry up, I have a walk scheduled soon!"
West Kai: "Exactly. You think our planets are as small as yours? It takes time to walk across the real world!
The three Kais: "Hahaha!"
North Kai fumed. "Fine! I was going to tell you some good news, but never mind!"
West Kai: "Wait, wait! My mistake. Tell us!"
East and South Kai: "Yeah, yeah, we're sorry. Tell us!"
North Kai smirked. "It's about Bojack."
East Kai gasped. "What? Has the seal broken?"
South Kai: "Talk, you little stump!"
North Kai finally let it out. "The Candidate God of Destruction just landed at Bojack's sealing site!"
The other three Kais shouted in unison: "WHAT?!"
