The conversation drifted naturally after that. Not because either of them was trying particularly hard. It simply did.
The kind of conversation that should have stalled several times somehow kept finding new paths forward. Nikos laughed too hard at Theon's joke. He had to admit Theon had a great sense of humor. He felt free.
Years of boardrooms and public appearances had trained him to maintain a version of himself people expected to see. But with Theon, that version kept slipping. And strangely enough, he didn't mind.
The plates between them gradually emptied while the wine level in Nikos' glass mysteriously never seemed to stay low for long cause Theon kept refilling it.
A comfortable silence settled between them for just a brief second.
Theon rested his elbow on the counter. "So do you have family?"
The question shifted something in Nikos. He knew the conversation had changed direction.
