The boardroom felt smaller than it should have. Perhaps it was because there were so few people inside it. Or perhaps it was because everyone present knew exactly why they were there.
Leander sat at the head of the polished table, his expression calm and composed. Beside him sat Thalia, dressed elegantly, her posture straight and her chin lifted with quiet confidence.
The boardroom door opened. Theon entered first. Behind him came Elder Benjamin, Elder Jose, and finally Alpha Vael'Runn.
The atmosphere of the room seemed to shift the moment he stepped inside. The hard lines of his face revealed nothing except irritation. His dark gaze swept over the room once before he took a seat without speaking.
Leander rose. "Welcome."
Theon handled the introductions. Names were exchanged, and pleasantries were offered.
Elder Benjamin's gaze moved around the room. "Where is your council, Alpha Leander?"
A brief silence followed.
