The moment I started walking toward her, she noticed and turned at the sound of my approaching footsteps…
Sun-bleached hair brushed against her shoulders as she faced me. A faded green jacket hung loosely over a dark shirt, and worn hiking boots peeked out beneath dusty cargo pants. Nothing about her clothes stood out, yet they carried the look of someone who had spent years traveling from one region to another.
Beside her stood Meganium.
The massive Grass-type shifted her weight, sunlight gliding across her smooth, curvaceous body in a way that made it impossible not to stare. Those strong, thick, powerful legs supporting her large frame, and the gentle sway of her wide hips carried a quiet confidence and the large pink flower around her neck bobbed softly in the breeze, releasing a faint sweet scent that clung to the air like perfume. Even standing still, she felt powerful… and dangerously alluring. Just imagine being pinned under all that warm, heavy strength and those thick thighs squeezing tight while…
Before my thoughts could run further or my expression give anything away, I quickly forced myself back under control and said, "Hey, I'm Gil. I saw your battle just now, and your Meganium was incredible."
Hearing my words, a small smile touched her lips.
Seeing that, I continued. "I was wondering if you'd be up for a battle. Assuming you're not done for the day."
The smile widened slightly.
"My name's Lara," she said. "And sure, Gil. Let's see what you've got."
I couldn't help grinning.
"A one-on-one, then."
Lara nodded.
"Works for me."
We quickly moved to opposite sides of an open field just outside the city. The afternoon sun stretched long shadows across the grass while the stone buildings of Pewter City stood quietly in the distance.
Scyther stepped forward beside me, blades gleaming under the light.
Across the field, Meganium also took her place.
"Whenever you're ready," Lara said, her voice steady, a small confident smile playing on her lips.
I didn't hesitate. My pulse raced with the thrill of the fight.
"Scyther, Quick Attack!"
"Scyther!"
Scyther didn't just run. She vanished.
She became a streak of tearing green light, slicing through the air as she closed the distance in a heartbeat, leaving a faint cut through the grass where she passed….
"Reflect," Lara called out, her voice perfectly level.
"Meganium!"
A shimmering, hexagonal pane of pink light snapped into reality just inches from Meganium's body.
Scyther hit it with a loud, heavy thoom. The barrier bent inward from the impact, held for a moment, then bounced her back like a spring.
Scyther was thrown backward through the air. She flipped mid-air and landed hard, her bladed feet digging into the ground as she slid back in a long trail of dust.
She shook her head once, wings buzzing sharply in frustration. "Scy…"
Her eyes locked back onto Meganium immediately.
"Don't let it attack quickly! Double Team!" I called out.
"Scy… Scy… Scy…"
Scyther pushed off the ground, speeding into a blur. Copies of her flickered into existence, forming a fast-moving circle around Meganium. The field filled with green afterimages, each one shifting and circling in a confusing pattern.
Their overlapping voices echoed across the battlefield, making it hard to tell which one was real.
Lara didn't even blink. "Sweet Scent."
"Mega…niuuum…"
The massive pink petals around Meganium's neck bloomed wide. A thick, cloying fog of pink pollen erupted outward in a dense shockwave.
The sweet smell filled the air, making it heavy and hard to move through.
As the mist rolled over Scyther's copies, the illusions began to blur and fade away one by one until only empty space was left.
I gritted my teeth. She's trying to slow her down. I opened my mouth to call a command, but Scyther was already moving.
She burst straight up through the pink mist, arcing into the clear sky. For a brief moment she hovered, wings flaring wide.
Then she snapped forward, crossing her scythes with brutal force.
Air Slash.
Crescents of highly compressed wind tore downward, slicing through the air with a sharp, screaming roar like something being ripped apart.
The first two blades slammed into the lingering Reflect barrier. Cracks of white light spread across the energy shield.
The third blade broke it completely.
The barrier shattered into glittering fragments of light, and the final wind blade cut straight through, exploding against Meganium's shoulder.
"Meg…!"
The massive Grass-type grunted, its feet dragging back through the dirt as it absorbed the impact.
Lara's eyes widened slightly, then softened into an impressed smile as she watched Scyther land heavily, chest rising and falling.
"Vine Whip."
Two thick, thorned vines shot out from Meganium's neck like lightning.
"Scyther, dodge!"
But Scyther didn't fully retreat.
Driven by pure instinct, she slipped straight into the attack instead of away from it. Her scythes blurred into steel as she met the vines head-on.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The battlefield exploded with sparks as blade and vine collided in rapid succession. Each impact rang out sharply through the field, Scyther letting out sharp "Scy!" cries while Meganium responded with heavy "Meg!" grunts.
She was pushing too aggressively, fighting entirely on her own rhythm.
"Scyther, disengage! Fall back!" I called out.
The words barely had time to leave my mouth.
Scyther ducked under a sweeping vine that tore through the grass behind her, then snapped back with a sharp upward slash that knocked it aside.
There was no hesitation in her movement, but also no sign she was pulling away.
I understood it then.
Scyther wasn't the type to retreat and backing off wasn't in her rhythm…
"Break its guard! Brick Break!" I changed my command immediately, adapting to her style instead of forcing mine.
"Scyther!"
She answered with a sharp cry. Her right scythe ignited with a bright white fighting aura. She twisted off her back foot, slipped past a second vine by a hair's breadth, and drove the glowing blade straight to Meganium.
The impact sounded like a detonating bomb.
"Megaaannn…!"
Meganium bellowed in pain, stumbling backward as the sheer force cracked the ground beneath its feet.
I exhaled sharply. "Now back away!"
But Scyther stayed forward for a split second too long. Her breathing was heavy, eyes burning with adrenaline. She wasn't willing to give up the pressure she had built.
Lara saw the opening.
"Meganium, Headbutt," she said.
"Megggg…"
Meganium lunged forward with all its massive weight, head lowered like a charging beast.
Scyther tried to escape with a burst of Quick Attack, but she was too close.
The massive head slammed into her mid-movement. The impact didn't just hit her, it stopped her momentum completely and sent her spinning away across the grass, tumbling end over end before skidding to a rough halt.
"Scy!" she cried out in pain, digging her blades into the ground to stop herself from rolling further. Dirt scraped against her armor as she forced herself upright without hesitation.
"Scy…ther!"
Her eyes locked back onto Meganium, sharp and unbroken.
"Don't let it control the pace! Quick Attack to its side!"
But before Scyther could move, Lara, who had been waiting for that exact moment, where Scyther's movements had slowed and her stamina finally began to dip, spoke.
"End it with Leaf Storm, Meganium."
"Megaaa…!"
Meganium roared, her large pink flower blooming wide as a violent cyclone of glowing green leaves erupted outward.
The storm twisted into a raging spiral, a tornado of razor-sharp blades that swallowed the field around Scyther. Leaves screamed through the air from every direction, cutting and battering her without pause.
"Dodge!" I shouted.
Scyther tried to push off the ground, but she was too slow.
The relentless storm overwhelmed her completely.
When the leaves finally cleared…
Scyther was down on one knee. She was trembling violently, her breathing coming in shallow, broken gasps. "Scy… ther…"
Her scythes were buried deep into the soil just to keep her from collapsing fully. She tried to push herself up again, wings twitching weakly, but her legs trembled.
My chest tightened.
I didn't think.
I was already running.
"Scyther!" I called out, my voice breaking as I reached her.
I dropped down beside her and caught her just as she tipped forward. Her armored body leaned heavily into my shoulder, strength fading with every passing second.
A faint, broken "Scy…" vibrated against my ribs.
"That's enough," I said quietly, holding her steady so she wouldn't fall any further. "You fought perfectly. You were amazing."
"Now take some rest," I whispered as I raised her Poké Ball.
A red beam shot out, pulling Scyther back into safety. I stood there for a long moment, staring at the sphere in my hand.
Even exhausted, even battered, she had fought like a storm given form. The way her sleek, powerful movements had pushed to their absolute limit lingered in my mind...
I swallowed and forced the thought down.
Now wasn't the time.
The silence stretched. Meganium shook itself out, petals settling, then turned and walked back to Lara's side.
I crossed the trampled grass. Lara met me halfway, and I extended my hand.
"That was one hell of a battle," I said. "Your Meganium is incredible."
She shook it firmly. "Your Scyther's got serious potential. Speed, power, and guts… but your biggest issue is coordination." Her eyes stayed steady. "You and her aren't fully synced yet. She fights on instinct, and you're still trying to match her pace. Work on that, Gil."
"I will. Thanks, Lara."
Lara smiled, this time a genuine one. "Anytime."
She turned, and Meganium fell into step beside her. Together, they walked off down the road without looking back.
