~Elsie's POV
The gunshots did not stop. My hands started shaking slightly as I stood up. "This is not possible," I whispered to myself, even though I already knew something was wrong.
Another gunshot echoed, and this time it felt like it shook the walls. That was when I moved. I did not even think properly as I just ran.
My feet hit the floor fast as I rushed out of my room, my breath already uneven. I could hear footsteps somewhere else in the hallway, and voices, and something that sounded like panic spreading through the house.
"Gianna," I called out again without thinking.
I pushed her door open and ran inside. She was already awake, her hair was slightly messy, and she was standing near her bed, holding something tightly like she was trying to figure out if she should fight or hide first.
We both stared at each other for a second. Then she spoke first. "What is happening?" she asked, her voice shaking slightly.
