Chapter 90: Annoyed by Soap Operas
"Mr. Dastar, please come back to the station with us to be questioned."
Mellege solemnly issued the arrest warrant to Dastar, while simultaneously gesturing to his fellow officers to cuff him.
Cindy frowned. "Chief Mellege, could you let me have a word with him?"
Mellege thought for a moment and said, "Mr. Cindy, please be quick."
"Thank you."
Cindy nodded, then turned to the expressionless Dastar. A hint of sorrow flashed in his eyes as he sighed, "Dastar, I watched you grow up. Among your peers, you were always outstanding, and Robert was so proud of you. But... but how did you end up like this today? To... to even commit an act as cruel as patricide... what on earth were you thinking?"
"What was I thinking?" Dastar chuckled, his expression suddenly changing as he snarled, "I wanted him to die!"
"Haha... hahaha... I wanted him dead..."
He broke into a maniacal smile, the veins on his face bulging, his eyes rolling back until only the whites showed. Liver spots appeared on his pale skin, clearly indicating he was mutating into a zombie.
Cindy's eyes widened. "Dastar, you..."
"Quick... quickly eliminate him."
Everyone was shocked and hurriedly turned to King for help.
King raised an eyebrow. He opened his hand, aimed his palm at Dastar, and a blue energy wave began to form.
"Wait a minute."
Cindy interrupted King's attack, looking at Dastar with a pained expression. "My boy, why do you harbor such hatred for your father? Don't you know? Your father loves you very much, he loves you so, so much. It's true that I came here today to discuss selling stocks with your father. However, the one who wanted to sell the company stocks wasn't me, it was your father. Do you know why he wanted to sell his shares in the company? It was for you!"
Everyone exchanged glances, their eyes filled with astonishment. So, the one who wanted to sell the shares was Robert, not Cindy.
"Impossible! Impossible! I don't believe you!"
Dastar's face was contorted with fury as he roared madly, "That old fool is always so self-righteous, always using his outdated mindset to look at the new era! What is the theme of this age? It's biotechnology and intelligent robots! But he just clings to a few broken toys and won't let go. He's fallen behind the times! But that's fine, he's old after all, so it's understandable he can't accept new things. But... but he actually used his ridiculous ideology to deny and destroy my dream! He destroyed my dream! He belittled my efforts as worthless, saying my biological research was..."
*BOOM!*
Just as Dastar was emotionally recounting the reasons he went astray, a blue energy wave slammed into him and exploded. His hideous head shattered like a squashed gourd, brains and blood mixing into a tofu-like slurry.
Cindy stared blankly at Dastar's headless, fallen body. Mellege's eyes went wide. Child Emperor viciously crushed the lollipop in his hand. Everyone stared dumbly at the scene before them.
What the hell just happened?
King shoved his hands back into his pockets and said coolly, "Sorry, I'm in a hurry. You can finish what you were saying in your next life." *You turned a perfectly good murder mystery plot into a damn soap opera. Seriously, doesn't anyone know how much I hate soap operas?*
"Hey, it's settled. Let's go."
He gave Child Emperor a light nudge, and under the bewildered gazes of the crowd, leisurely walked out of Robert's house. Child Emperor, with a small backpack, trotted along behind him.
The two got into Child Emperor's personal car, which was driven by a robot he had designed and installed.
"Mister, next time, can you please let people finish speaking?"
In the car, Child Emperor gave King a reproachful look. Dastar had only gotten halfway through his speech, leaving the rest unsaid. It was enough to drive someone with an obsessive-compulsive disorder crazy!
"I just felt there was no need to waste any more time listening."
King leaned back in his seat, his eyes slightly narrowed. He still had to catch a train to Z City this afternoon. Who had this much free time to watch them act out a soap opera? And a damn soap opera about a rich family's love-hate drama, at that. He'd gotten sick of those as a kid, alright?
"Not wasting time, huh?" After hearing King's words, Child Emperor fell silent. He pinched his small chin, his eyes lighting up. "That's right! The great philosopher Schwartzgeid once said, 'An inch of time is an inch of gold, but an inch of gold cannot buy an inch of time.' We have a lot of time, yet we also have very little. Only by dedicating our limited time to limitless training can we become stronger. Mister King, your mindset about getting stronger makes me feel so ashamed, yet so full of admiration! I need to use my time to get stronger too! I can't let you leave me too far behind."
"Right, Child Emperor, I heard Robert was your investor?"
"He was." Child Emperor rolled his eyes. "But now that Robert and his son are dead, the investment's gone down the drain."
King crossed his arms, looked askance at Child Emperor, and said, "It doesn't matter. What does a little kid need so much money for anyway?"
Child Emperor: "..."
*Don't treat me like a kid! I'm amazing too!*
"Oh, right, Mister King, I didn't just invite you to help with the experiment this time. I also invited a few other heroes. They've already arrived at the research institute and are waiting for us. You don't mind, do you?"
King's expression didn't change in the slightest. "It doesn't matter to me. As long as we finish the experiment quickly."
Child Emperor chuckled. "Don't worry, it's just collecting experimental data for my new invention. It won't take long."
"Mm."
...
*Screech!*
Before long, the two arrived at Child Emperor's ""Elementary Student" Research Institute." This research institute was built by the Hero Association specifically for Child Emperor, providing him a place to conduct all sorts of experiments.
However, due to a shortage of research funds, Child Emperor had unfortunately not yet produced any earth-shattering scientific breakthroughs, though he had come up with plenty of small gadgets.
This time, Child Emperor had invited King to City Y specifically to test his new little invention: a peculiar pair of Glasses.
According to Child Emperor's introduction, these Glasses were equipped with the most advanced sensors capable of detecting the sounds of a person's muscle tremors and friction. It was a piece of black technology that could then predict the opponent's movements based on the frequency of those tremors. In other words, after putting on these Glasses, your opponent's every subsequent move would be completely within your grasp. In a battle, you could see and counter every move, guaranteeing a victory in terms of technique. As long as the power difference wasn't too great, you could completely crush your opponent with this.
This was a divine artifact for combat!
It was practically a low-cost version of Observation Haki!
If the experiment was successful, these Glasses would become standard equipment for the professional heroes under the Hero Association, definitely increasing the heroes' efficiency and success rate in killing Mysterious Beings.
It was simply a godsend for lower-ranked heroes.
Of course, all of this was predicated on the experiment being successful.
