I could feel the ground tremble beneath me. The shift of the magic as the veil completely disintegrated. I looked to the woman beside me. "They are on their way." I informed her, only for her to look at me emptily.
"I know." She said bluntly.
"You do not want her to be free?" I had to ask, because of her actions. The way she defended the area so desperately. Anyone would think she had been behind it all.
"Of course I want her to be free. But not in a world where that man can harm her." Her voice trembled, and the mask of calm that remained steady while talking to Wren wavered. This was a woman who was reaching her own breaking point. "Do you not see that? All I have done was to protect her. To protect Wren. That man is dangerous." I offered her a sad smile. What was there to say? It truly seemed like she had tried to help her own daughter. Or she believed that was what she was doing, but in doing so had brought her to her own demise.
"You should have asked for help."
