Chapter 59 - Clouds, Smoke, And The Void

Wrestling a dragon mid-flight is no easy feat.

First you must get a good grip, enough so that you don't accidentally fall off. If you're as big as your ride, like the Knight is, you must make sure not to get in the way of the wings, lest ye plumet down together.

Most of all, you must make sure to stay on the back, the dragon's claws and fangs make short work of armour. If yours isn't as tough as the Knight's, don't ride a dragon, the scales themselves are enough to shred normal armour into jagged fragments, raining flakes of snow from on above.

The Knight's punches were not making a dent in the scales. A knight really needs its sword, the hammer hits were dealing some internal damage, but without making it through the scales, this damage was on the minor side.

The groves on the gauntlet still had their purpose, they helped the Knight hold onto the scales. The dragon was not having it either, the Knight was out of reach, which was no problem, but it had lost its power over the fire elemental, something it had not thought could happen, at this point things were at a stalemate. The darkness was making things worse; the dragon could barely perceive itself.

Its sense of direction was also distorted, not being on the ground, the dragon could not tell where it was, flapping its wings, it was moving, but not clear how, it could not sense the winds either. Luckily, it had not bumped into anything. This was also strange; it had never seen the darkness persist during daylight. 'The humans must be lucky, the first destroyer moving with a darkness that ignores daylight, has chosen to side with them, even if it might be conditional.'

A roar rang across the heavens, the Knight did not need to breathe, but the dragon did, after all combustion needs some oxygen, as such when it reached the ozone layer, the spike in oxygen levels made the dragon realise it was high up. The Knight could still see clearly, so the dragon flying up was a welcomed occurrence. Grabbing onto the wings, the Knight strained its first power, to make the wings more susceptible to change. The Knight did not manage to break the wings, but their angle was awkward, knocking the wind out of them, sending them both plummeting down.

The Knight them summoned the chain it had made using the soul of the Alluga and tied the wings of the dragon together. These chain links were now several times larger, their ability was to grow in size, so at this moment they were colossal. The Knight then teleported under the dragon. Teleporting had become strenuous at this size, but good thing the Knight did not need to teleport far.

Now on the underbelly of the beast, the Knight summoned a scythe, made from the soul of the Sygiligon, it grew in size to match the Knight's size. Once infused with the void it would crumble, otherwise in this state, it won't even leave a scratch, so this would be the last time the Knight would be using it.

The Knight did not take from the void covering it and the dragon, instead fusing part of the void contained within the Knight. This made it lose a couple hundred metres which was just smudge bit of length at this size, barely even noticeable. The scythe got this dark sheen, whisps of void emanating from it. The Knight then swung it, devastating the scales on the underbelly of the dragon. The Knight the swung again, leaving only a scratch on the thick hide, after a few swings the Knight drew a drop of blood.

The stuff seeped out like flowing lava, it burned a thousand times hotter though. Even though the power had been snuffed, as it turned out the inside of this thing was naturally a heaping furnace. 'No wonder that one breath left a mountain higher that the heavens as a red scorch on the ground.'

The scythe had a net of cracks running across its surface, and even though it had only been augmented for just a few seconds, it shattered, tuning into the void, being absorbed by the Knight, giving it back the marginal noticeable loss of height. The wound on the dragon was barely noticeable, but the damage the Knight's armour was taking from the claws was leaving scars on its surface, even breaching the breastplate at some points.

The Knight then used its gauntlets as knives, by straightening its palm and fingers flat. With the battle monger skill, these might as well be heaven splitting blades. They were still barely thorns to the insignificant wound on the dragon. Nonetheless the Knight and the dragon hacked away at each other, tumbling in the sky as they descended. At this speed they were heating up hotter than a meteor, this heat barely even phased these two adversaries.

The Knight had sunk its armoured fingers into the magma filled body, this wound was nowhere near enough, but it had drops of lava seeping out. The dragon reared its head, taking a bite onto the Knight shoulder, plunging its teeth deep.

The dragon felt immense pain, this was because it had reached the flesh, and the followers gnawed away at the teach, at best it was like getting brain freeze, the followers were still in their dormant state, and even if it was immensely painful, it still bit even deeper. Its fangs reached the Knight's corpse, still not drawing even a single drop of blood.

"I will decimate this thing you call a body, repugnant as it is." Said the dragon with its mouth full.

The Knight then pulled its hands out of the only wound on the dragon, then it forced them into the dragons' teeth to crane its mouth open.

The teeth were bending the fingers on the gauntlet. The dragon was refusing to let go of the left shoulder, so the Knight pushed the right hand deeper into the side of the lower jaw and sunk the tips of the gauntlet into the upper jaw, and jarred harder, the mouth only gave up just a few metres, then the Knight pulled its shoulder out. The fangs were still in deep, so as the Knight pulled the shoulder our, marring scars ran across the pauldron. Once the shoulder was out, the Knight grabbed onto the claws of the dragon, pulling then out, once the Knight was free it teleported above the dragon.

Once above the Knight shrunk and compressed to about the size smaller than that of the dragons' scales at around a few metres, while still maintaining the void augmentation and the field of void around the dragon to keep its power at bay. Landing on one of the scales, the Knight felt like it was standing atop a mountain butte. The Knight then summoned another hammer, made from the soul of the Ender, it had the ability to transfer the complete strength of a blow to the target.

A large arc was drawn as the Knight swung its hammer, which shattered upon impact, due the void and the sheer force of the impact itself. Then the Knight teleported to the top of the mountain, above was a dragon falling even faster because of the hit. Originally the Knight had planned to use the mountain as a massive spike and piece it through the dragon, but seeing how hard it was to just pierce through the hide, the mountain would just crumble, so the plans had to change.

After the Knight landed, it grew to a kilometre, not matching the dragon, but enough to look like a whole blade. The Left arm was having issues responding, so the Knight coiled the right arm. Right when the dragon of a meteor descended upon the Knight, the Knight hurdled its arm forward, using it as a spear tip, going through the part the Knight had already tore open.

This made the Knight serve as a wedge on a weak spot, but even though, most of the void augmentation had been focused mainly of the legs, spine, armour, and the rest on the tips of the gauntlet, the bones of the Knight's legs shattered into splinters, the armour bent, and the spine was almost pushed out of the body. The Knight's body had always been caught in this point in time, where even after restoring itself, it only stopped there, so the broken bones were always barely attached, thus this was just the first time they had been crushed, not tore off.

The whole impact crushed the mountain, sending an avalanche of boulders shooting out in all directions, flattening the mountains. From the crater, a massive blast spread outwards, creating a shockwave that reached even the city, the walls held though.

The resulting crater was like a paused scene, after a drop fell into a pond. A sharp mountain at the bottom of a crater that had decimated the surrounding mountains.

The Knight's body had held out as well, and serving as the spear tip, it tore through the dragon, gorging out the dragon and came out through the back, sending scales flying. The mountain pushed through the dragon sending a fountain of lava spewing out of the top, looking like a volcano had just erupted.

It flowed down the mountain, which had survived because of the Knight diverting most of the impact, burning away all the debris from the impact. The Knight was still standing at the top and had absorbed the void back inside, still in position, as drops of lave flowed down its armour, like drops of rainwater after a storm, surrounded by an impaled dragon, and a crater slowly filling with the lava once it reached the base.

The lava moat that had formed around the side was glowing brightly, and even though night had fallen, it made a halo of light illuminating the scene; a knight standing triumphant atop a mountain, surrounded by the remains of a dragon seeping with lava.

The Knight had not released the void augmentation, but the void was no longer shrouding the remains of the dragon, so they laid there in all their glory displayed upon the world. Without the Dreaded power keeping the dragon's power at bay, the scales started glowing bright red, burning so hot it was heating up the flowing lava. The mountain shook as the head of the dragon rose, its mouth was glowing and singing with flames, aimed at the Knight.

The Knight's body might be in a state of disrepair, but it could still teleport out of the way, but it did not. The Knight dropped the hand that had still been risen towards the skies, and plunged it into the pool of lava, then the Knight pulled its soul out, it had been barely connected to the body. Some of the scales that had fallen off were becoming full dragons, but after the Knight pulled the soul out, which now made it its property, all the scales that became dragons and were trying to fly away, fell.

On this day, every single fire dragon died, even if they were not included in this battle, they all shared a single soul with this one. Even the dragon kin of fire died. The eyes of the risen head became smoke filled, and the head fell causing some of the lava to shoot outward as it landed in its own pool of blood. The mouth released smoke as the scales became dark, settling at a dark shade of crimson.

You have slain a level 321 True Beast, Red Scorch. Soul acquired…

The Knight then walked down the mountain once its bones had been attached enough. The Knight now knew what it meant to be a disaster type being, it comes from possessing power over a disaster, and the power Red Scorch had was of the disaster known as fire.

One of the empty husks of a scale, one which had formed into a dragon and tried to escape, it was laying half submerged in the lava blood, which was not as hot at before. The dragons never put their lives on the line because the death at the hands of a destroyer would kill all of them.

This prideful being had refused to become a follower because this decision was not its own, it is for all fire dragons, and their kin. This dragon the Knight was looking at could be destroyed by its followers easily. It was connected to all, its death would have been inconsequential, but the Knight had slain the manifested true might. So, if the Knight was right about this then…

The Vile Knight pushed the soul in its hand into the body of the dragon, similar to how it would in order to give the followers vessels, and the dragon rose, as so did every other fire dragon in the lands.

The followers would refuse to take dead vessels, they needed a soul attached, that they could consume. The dragon soul however, jumped and attached to the dragon that had formed from its scales. The scales began to regain their colour, soon shining with the bright radiance of day, then they dimmed until they became a bright vermillion.

Just like a chain reaction, the scales of the dragon burst into flame, causing pillars of fire to burn in the night, each forming into a dragon. Soon the corpse was gone, leaving only the pool of lava, even the bones and flesh had turned into a full dragons. Where the colossal corpse once lay slew, was a whole legion of dragons, blurting out the stars of the night.

They were all flying away, not even questioning this miraculous feat. The Knight was standing there in there in the pool of lava, battered, and crushed, armour marred with scars, bent at awkward angles, bones crushed, it had had to work hard to even move down the mountain. With a voice commanding authority, the Knight said.

"Where do you vermin think you're going!"
