Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: A "Little" Bit Behind the Times

"Which new deck should I choose?"

At noon the following day, Jiang He yawned while leaning back on a spacious rooftop above the main classroom building of Duel Academy. He lay leisurely on a beach chair, soaking up the sun and sipping fruit juice while browsing the System Shop, contemplating which new toxic deck to buy.

The little brown Sphere Kuriboh sat on his shoulder, though it remained invisible to ordinary people. Since there were no classes today, Jiang He was quite free.

His luxury cabin was still under construction, and the soundproofing of the Slifer Red dorms could only be described as mediocre at best. Since the construction site was close to his room, Jiang He had escaped to this expansive rooftopwhich was the size of several rooms combinedto enjoy the sun in peace.

As for Jaden Yuki, Syrus Truesdale, and their now-acquaintance Chumley, who were still back at the dorm enduring the noise... Jiang He could only say: Hontoni sumimasen. (Bow.jpg)

He returned his focus to the deck selection.

[System Shop (Refreshes every two days, providing four exchangeable options)]

Today's Options: (Refresh in 1 day)

- [Deck: Arcana Force Deck (Sartorius Version)] 500 Points

- [Deck: Morphing Jar Deck (Mill/Deck Out)] 1000 Points

- [Deck: Stealth Bird Deck (Burn)] 1500 Points

After exchanging for the Mark of the Dragon (Head) last night, he still had 1800 Emotion Points remaining. It was enough to pick up one more toxic deck.

He wasn't unfamiliar with these three options. They could all be considered "toxic," but in different ways. The latter two were toxic to the opponent, while the Sartorius version of the Arcana Force deck was mostly toxic to the user...

Because almost all the monsters, spells, and traps in that deck required a coin toss. One side of the effect was extremely beneficial, while the other was the exact oppositeusually either destroying all of the opponent's monsters or all of one's own. It was the ultimate "gambler's deck."

Someone with supernatural spirit powers who could influence the results might be able to handle it, but for anyone else, it was pure gambling. Jiang He didn't think he could manage a deck that was toxic to himself... He had Duel Spirit Vision and the Mark of the Dragon now, but those were useless when it came to flipping coins!

He immediately crossed Arcana Force off his list. That deck was so toxic it didn't even fit in.

That left the two authentic toxic strategies. From what he knew, the Morphing Jar deck required a lot of precise moves to trigger specific chain conditions, aiming to infinitely mill the opponent's deck into the Graveyard.

On the other hand, the Stealth Bird decka classic Burn strategyhad a much lower difficulty level. There was a reason it cost more points.

However, as a man with high dueling standards who was determined to "heal the world" and "spread laughter and love," Jiang He claimed he wasn't the type of unmotivated player who just wanted an easy win!

Therefore, after grave and solemn consideration!

Jiang He decisively chose the Stealth Bird deck, which had a low entry barrier and an even more toxic effect.

Wow, this is great.jpg

He told himself that choosing not to take the easy win when it was right there would be foolish. While Burn decks had weaknesses and could be countered if the opponent knew what was coming, as long as they didn't know he was playing a troll deck, Jiang He believed the "depressing" effect would be excellent!

He wondered who the first unlucky soul to test the power of this new deck would be.

"Jiang He, you really were up here."

While Jiang He was lazily sunbathing and drinking juice, he heard the sound of footsteps and a familiar, slightly resentful voice coming from the stairs. He raised his gaze slightly and saw Jaden Yuki, accompanied by Syrus and Chumley. The three of them looked thoroughly aggrieved as they stepped onto the rooftop.

"Ugh! You're enjoying yourself way too much...! I'm so jealous!" Syrus cried out, tears streaming down his face in noodle-like curves when he saw Jiang He's beach chair and juice setup.

Chumley nodded in silent agreement. Compared to the half-day of noise they had endured at the dorms, Jiang He's spot was practically heaven.

"Cough... why are you three here?" Jiang He coughed to hide his embarrassment, asking Jaden and the others with a straight face.

"We just heard some shocking news on the way to find you!" Jaden replied, instantly forgetting his resentment and jealousy. "Something big happened! That guy Chazz dropped out and left Duel Academy!"

As Jaden spoke, Syrus and Chumley both looked very solemn. After all, Chazz was the former top student of Obelisk Blue and had just recently dueled both Jiang He and Jaden. It was definitely big news for the academy.

"So that's the big news you wanted to tell me... I knew about it last night," Jiang He yawned, leaning back into his beach chair with an air of boredom. He had thought it was something actually important. A clown like Chazz would return on his own eventually; there was no need to worry about him.

"You knew since last night?" Jaden, Syrus, and Chumley all looked a bit awkward.

The three of them looked up at the sunit was already high noonand fell silent. In that case, their information was a "little" bit behind the times...

"If there's nothing else, I'm going back to sunbathing. See you at the dorm later," Jiang He said, waving them off slightly before closing his eyes again.

"Wait, there's one more thing that's even more important," Jaden said hurriedly. "That first thing was just something we heard on the way. What we're about to tell you is the main reason we came looking for you!"
