Chapter 21 - Roommates.2

Plain.

If Place was asked to choose one word to describe the young man who had just slammed open the door, 'Plain' would be the word he would choose.

Simple clothing, no defining features, black hair, brown eyes. It would be hard to pick him out of a crowd.

Place strode forward and stopped him from charging in.

"What's going on?" He stopped his movements and asked.

"This is normal, they're just playing with each other." Place lowered his arm. "They do this on a regular basis."

"Ah." The newcomer seemed to understand. "I see, I apologize for rushing in." He tipped his head in apology.

"No problem." Place offered his hand in greeting. "Ald-placeen Cublue, just call me Place."

"Zandre." A quick handshake was exchanged.

"No last name?"

"No idea who my parents are."

"Ah."

'An abandoned child...'

Place's curiosity grew even more. What was so special about this person?

"Orit, ugh, March," Orit grunted as he pinned Raise on the floor. "And this loser below me is Raise Lith."

"My name is Zandre." Zandre introduced himself to them as well, as he started to get a proper look at the room.

He was visibly taken aback.

"Wow," He exclaimed as he looked around. "This is... quite a large room, isn't it? It's as big as the dining hall back home!"

The room had four beds, four table and chair pairs, four cupboards, and four wardrobes.

One of each for each resident.

And there was another door to the side, leading to the bathroom.

"The beds have storage compartments as well." Place remarked helpfully, showing Zandre handles on the side of the bed.

"Huhuhu... What will I put in all these?" Zandre was a bit overwhelmed by the abundance of space available.

"Don't worry, you have a lot of time to decide that."

"I thought those were decorations." Raise pulled on one of the handles, and a drawer slid out. "Good eye!" He praised Place's attention to detail as he transferred the books from below the bed into the bed.

"Now that we are all here, how about we share a few details about ourselves, just to get to know each other?"

Place proposed a small discussion.

"Sure."

"No problem."

"I would like that!"

The proposal was accepted easily.

"Then I shall go first." Place plopped himself on his bed.

"I am Ald-Placeen Cublue, from a somewhat wealthy and a somewhat well-known family of mages. Just call me Place. I am well-versed in many forms of weaponry and mana-less combat. I spend my free time reading about history and different cultures. Recently, I have been having premonitions, one of them is why I'm here. I have no mana, but I have a feeling that that fact will change soon. Any questions?"

A moment of silence passed as they digested the knowledge he had just spouted from his mouth.

Orit broke the silence.

"No mana?" He questioned.

"None." Place affirmed, and both his and Raise's faces flinched.

"Must have been rough." Raise spoke softly.

"Don't worry about it, I've gotten used to it." Place assured them.

"Premonitions?" Zandre raised his hand as he asked.

'File that away.'

"Yes, premonitions."

"What do they feel like?"

Place had not expected that question.

"Like... A tugging on my mind, pulling me towards something."

"Thank you."

"No problem, any other questions?"

A series of head shakes.

"Alright then, who wants to go next?"

Zandre raised his hand.

"Can I?" He asked.

"Go ahead." Place made a gesture to tell him to feel free.

"Right." He cleared his throat. "I am Zandre. I grew up in an orphanage. I know a little bit about fighting, and I learned about magic from books. I like sweets and hate bullies. I don't know much about etiquette, so please take it easy on me if I offend any of you."

Simple, but the other three quietly appraised this seemingly simple young man in front of them.

Nobody simple would have been able to get into the elite class.

"I'll go next." Raise dusted off his shirt and adjusted his clothes as he started speaking.

"Raise Lith, I grew up with this Rabisht," He pointed a thumb at Orit, who scoffed. "I am proficient with wind and earth magic. I can also use a spear and am acceptable with a bow. I like reading, and dislike bright yellow."

"Orit March, I grew up with this sorry excuse for an apple." He poked the air towards his frenemy to make his point.

"I am also able to use wind and earth magic, but I also have a little ability with water magic. I am also much better at fighting than him."

'A bit of a competition?' Place wondered about the specifics of Orit's and Raise's relationship.

"I like taking long baths and hate doing nothing."

With all introductions made, they sat in silence for a short moment.

"It's almost lunch time." Place started. "Shall we go together?" He made another offer to increase their knowledge of each other.

"I'm fine with that!" Zandre agreed enthusiastically.

"That's alright with me." Orit said as Raise nodded.

Place gave a last glance around his new quarters.

"Then let's get going."

He got up and slightly adjusted his clothes, before moving towards the door.

"Do you think they have Shell broth?" Zandre asked.

"We will find out soon enough." Place answered.

"And if they don't, I'm sure there will be something you will enjoy regardless."
