Silence enveloped the world, while the immense silver eye above the heavens remained open. Its very presence eroded hope, causing individuals across all kingdoms to kneel in terror.
Even Titans remained motionless. The entity's voice continued to reverberate through reality, declaring: "If humanity rejects balance, then humanity will be erased." However, no one within Aerindor was paying attention to the sky anymore; they were focused on Lyra. More specifically, on the peculiar symbol glowing on the back of her hand.
Black, ancient, and disturbing. Selene's face turned pallid as the stranger appeared genuinely distressed. Even Caelum, the man who had faced Titans fearlessly, looked horrified. Lyra carefully examined the mark.
"What is this?" she asked. There was no immediate response. Kael swiftly stepped beside her, his protective instincts rising. "What does it signify?" Caelum swallowed hard something Lyra had never observed him do before and then whispered, "The Void Mark." Rylan blinked in confusion. "That sounds incredibly evil." Selene's breathing became uneven. "It should not exist."
Lyra frowned, seeking clarity. "Can someone please explain instead of frightening me?" The stranger finally responded, "Before the system, before the Core, there was another force." Silence followed. Caelum closed his eyes briefly. "The Void." Lightning flashed across the darkened sky. High above, the silver eye appeared to focus directly on Lyra, exhibiting signs of nervousness and an expression that unnerved Selene, as she had never seen the entity show fear.
"The Void existed before balance," Selene explained quietly. "It symbolised possibility." Lyra was perplexed. "Possibility?"
"Unlimited outcomes," Caelum answered. "Creation without rules." Rylan raised a finger. "That certainly sounds like something humanity would misuse." Caelum nodded. "Indeed, we did." A shadow of ancient sorrow crossed his features. "The first civilisation nearly destroyed reality in their attempt to control it."
"The survivors created the Core to contain the Void," Selene added. "The system was designed to safeguard existence." Lyra gradually grasped the situation. "And the silver-eyed entity?" The stranger's expression hardened. "It was never meant to govern humanity."
"Then who created it?" Kael inquired. No one responded, as none possessed the answer. Suddenly, pain surged through Lyra's hand; the black symbol flared brightly, shattering her vision into endless darkness. Then she found herself in an unfamiliar world: no cities, no Titans, no Core only stars.
Standing before her was a woman who appeared nearly human, with long black hair, silver eyes, and an aura of loneliness. The woman offered a gentle smile.
"You finally found me," she said.
Lyra retreated. "Who are you?"
The woman tilted her head slightly. "I have had many names. Once, they called me Hope."
Lyra froze. Hope? Not Void? Not destruction?
The woman nodded as if reading her thoughts. "They feared what they could not control." Images appeared around them: ancient humans, terrified civilisations, wars, experiments people turning possibilities into catastrophes. The woman's expression darkened with pain. "They blamed me."
Lyra felt her chest tighten. "You are not the enemy."
The woman's face softened into a sad smile. "No." Her expression then shifted urgency entered her tone. "The entity has awakened completely. It cannot tolerate uncertainty."
Stars around them began to fade, one by one. "Then aid me in stopping it," Lyra pleaded.
The woman looked nearly heartbroken. "I cannot."
"Why?" Lyra asked.
"Because I no longer exist," the woman replied.
Silence followed. Lyra frowned. "But I am speaking to you."
"Only a memory," the woman said, her form gradually becoming transparent. "But you carry what remains of me."
Suddenly, the world around them cracked apart; a furious scream echoed through the void. It was not human, nor Titan the silver-eyed entity had located them. The woman's expression shifted instantly. "Go!"
Darkness erupted around them. The last thing Lyra perceived before her vision shattered was: "Remember this, Lyra… Darkness alone, balance without hope, becomes tyranny." Tears welled in the woman's silver eyes.
Lyra's eyes snapped open; she collapsed to one knee. Kael caught her immediately. "Lyra!"
She looked up at him, breathing heavily. "I know what the mark signifies."
Everyone approached her, including Caelum. Above them, the great silver eye narrowed as if listening.
Lyra slowly rose to her feet and looked toward the sky. For the first time, she addressed the entity directly. "You lied."
The world fell silent. The eye ceased its movement.
"You were never protecting humanity," she stated.
Sudden silver lightning split the heavens as the entity's voice grew colder than ever. "Hope breeds chaos."
Lyra raised her marked hand. "No. Hope creates choice."
The black symbol emitted a pulse of energy, and beyond reality, something ancient awoke something the entity had spent millennia attempting to erase. Beneath the ruins of the first civilisation, a sealed door slowly opened. From the darkness, two glowing blue eyes appeared.
"Has humanity chosen hope once again?"
