Daniel awoke and saw the Caterpillar in the cosmic realm in which he
resides. Daniel asked what happened the Caterpillar responded by saying, "well to
be frank you have destroyed Nyarlathotep he can never come back but at a great
cost. Nyarlathotep destroyed himself and destroyed the entire universe with him,"
said the Caterpillar. Daniel began to cry. "It can be undone though the universe and
everyone can be revived, but at a cost," said the Caterpillar. There was a long
silence until Daniel finally asked; "what do you mean?" The Caterpillar lurched
forward and said, "you will have to surrender your position as the Gatekeeper and
give it to someone else to break the chain of reincarnation among the GateKeepers
for the first time in 6,000 years. Do you have a successor in mind?" said the
Caterpillar. "And do you choose to be the last in the line of this cycle of
Gatekeepers and to give the line to the soul of another?" he said. Daniel without
hesitating said; "is that all? Yes I relinquish my line upon my death. And my
successor will be my friend Zaiyal. The Caterpillar closed his eyes and said, "As
you wish."
As soon as these words were uttered by the caterpillar everything went
white and Daniel woke up on the battlefield with Oliver climbing to his feet and
Ungar, Narcis, Zaiyal, Luna, and the others landing beside him. Daniel told them everything that happened that Nyarlathotep was forever destroyed and that Zaiyal
was his new successor upon his death. "Tsk, I guess I'm stuck with that now.
Thanks for notifying me," said Zaiyal. Oliver, brushing off dust and debris, gave
Daniel a searching look. "Are you okay? You've been through so much." There
was genuine concern in his eyes, the kind of concern that came from fighting side
by side and surviving against all odds. Zaiyal shrugged, attempting to mask the
gravity of the situation with a wry smile. "Yeah, well, it looks like I've got a big
pair of shoes to fill. Let's just hope I don't trip over them." Luna, always
perceptive, gave Zaiyal a reassuring smile. "We'll be with you every step of the
way. We're a team, after all." Daniel took a deep breath, considering their
questions. "The Caterpillar mentioned a great cost for reviving the universe. We'll
need to restore balance and stability, and that starts with reconnecting the realms
and ensuring that the cosmic forces are realigned." He looked around at his friends,
feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "We need to gather any surviving knowledge
and allies, reforge connections with the cosmic entities that still remain, and find a
way to mend the fabric of reality." Zaiyal, despite his apprehensions, nodded in
agreement. "Okay, then. Let's get to work." After just one year a statue was built of
Tatu in honor of his sacrifice. Oliver and Luna got married and the ceremony was
held before the statue of Tatu. Narcis went on to the spirit realm to continue his
training to become a Bodhisattva and a true enlightened Buddha. Ungar went off to train his mind and soul, Zaiyal and Daniel for their part went off to train and
become stronger than they were before and along with Sarai with their wives and
children.
As they prepared to embark on this new chapter, the universe's revival
seemed both an immense challenge and an opportunity to rebuild from the ground
up. Daniel's heart was heavy with the knowledge of his impending change, but he
found solace in the camaraderie of his friends and the trust he had placed in Zaiyal.
The future was uncertain, but for the moment, they were united in their resolve to
restore and protect their universe. But a new threat was soon to emerge greater than
everything Daniel and his friends had experienced before.
THE END.
