Chapter 102 - Chapter 102: in space

Two days had officially passed, and the ticking clock of the cosmic countdown had shrunk to its final, terrifying interval. The moving planet was now a single day away from Earth.

Across every primary hangar bay and armory sector within the Border Defense Citadel, the atmosphere was thick with the scent of ozone, pressurized hydraulics, and heavy synthetic plating. Everyone was suited up, sealed into their specialized high-grade pressurized space suite, and completely ready to ascend into the dark vacuum of space.

The weight of history hung heavily over the entire assembly. When the Zethrians had first launched their catastrophic assault a thousand years ago, they had ruthlessly wiped out nearly seventy percent of the human race. Over the centuries, humanity had slowly rebuilt, crawling its way back from the brink of total extinction to reach a current global population of approximately two billion people. Out of those survivors, about five million had been meticulously trained, conditioned, and augmented to serve as Xenocides.

Now, those five million soldiers were preparing to do what their ancestors never could: take the fight directly into the stars. When humanity had successfully fought back and survived the first war, they had salvaged the wreckage of the defeated Zethrian spaceships. Over the generations, human engineers had systematically rebuilt, copied, and perfected the alien designs, turning the conquerors' own stolen technology into Earth's ultimate vanguard armada.

Captain-General Dock Von stood on the central observation platform overlooking the massive launch bay, his hands resting on the iron railing as hundreds of advanced sleek transports hummed with anti-gravity propulsion.

"Ok, the time has come," Dock Von's gravelly voice echoed through the headsets of every pilot and soldier across the base, carrying a heavy, paternal weight. "I hope you all come back safe."

The command was given, and the massive bay doors groaned open, revealing the grey sky. Everyone entered their respective spaceships, the heavy airlocks sealing with a series of metallic thuds and pressurized hisses.

"One! Two! Ready... deploy!" Dock Von screamed into the master comms link.

The hangar exploded into motion. Hundreds of ships deployed simultaneously, their engines flaring with high-intensity violet energy as they launched into the sky, flying directly toward the upper atmosphere.

The ships tore through the planet's atmospheric layers with immense velocity. First, they shattered the Troposphere, the dense air rippling against the heat shields as the clouds vanished below them. Within seconds, they cut straight into the calm, icy expanse of the Stratosphere, where the horizon began to curve and the sky shifted from brilliant blue to a deep, bruising purple. The vessels pushed harder, screaming through the Mesosphere as the air thinned to nearly nothing, before rocketing through the searing, ionized heat of the Thermosphere. Finally, they crossed the absolute boundary of the Exosphere, breaking free from Earth's gravitational pull entirely and entering the silent, freezing expanse of deep space.

Back on the observation deck, Zane stood near the main console, his hands casually resting in his pockets as he looked at Dock Von. A faint, knowing smirk sat on his face.

"See you around," Zane said, his silver eyes flashing with a calm, absolute confidence. "Just make sure you stay careful before I get back, old man."

"I will," Dock Von replied, a rare, genuine smile breaking through his battle-worn face. "Don't keep us waiting."

Zane offered a brief nod, turned on his heel, and then he flew directly to space . he moved at an absolute velocity of Mach 50, his kinetic trail cutting a white line through the darkness.

Finally, the entire armada had completely transitioned into deep space.

Inside the primary command transport of the 10th Division, the crew was huddled around the reinforced observation deck. For many of the younger operatives, it was their very first time looking back at the absolute reality of the cosmos, and the sheer emptiness of the void left them completely stunned. The communication channels immediately filled with a wave of murmurs and anxious chatter.

"Wow... I knew it was empty out here, but seeing it like this is completely different," Elias whispered, his silver eyes reflecting the distant glow of the continents below them. He gripped the edge of his seat, his muscles tight beneath his pressurized suit.

Nyx stood right beside him, her face still carrying a lingering tint of pink from the previous day's teasing, but her eyes were fixed firmly on the dark horizon ahead. "It's quiet. Too quiet. It feels like the entire universe is just waiting for something to break."

"It's really amazing and beautiful" Renji replied, as he removed his element "I just hope we all make it back alive "

"Yeah renji you're right," Rook replied, adjusting the heavy seals around his collar. "But I really hope this ships can make it to our destination".

"Quit whining, Rook," Jaxen muttered from the back row, his arms crossed over his chest . "The ships have been tested for a thousand years. If the engineering holds, the only thing you need to worry about is what's waiting for us inside that moving fortress."

"Exactly. The logistics are perfectly green across the board," Cipher chimed in, his fingers tapping rapidly against his glowing tactical visor as he monitored the fleet's trajectory. "Our velocity is stable, our cloaking shields are holding, and the gravity dampeners are absorbing the outer anomalies perfectly. Just enjoy the ride."

"Cool look at those planet" Elias said pointing out the window

Mikasa sat smoothly on a nearby equipment crate, her fingers lightly tracing the edge of her sheathed daggers. "It's beautiful, honestly. But don't let the view distract you. The closer we get, the tighter the perimeter is going to be."

"I don't care about the view, I just want this to be over so I can go back home," Vela sighed dramatically, slouched in her seat with her arms pouting across her chest. "Sending me to space, that's seriously human rights violation ".

"Oh, come on, Vela, live a little!" Sloane giggled, leaning over her chair to poke Vela's shoulder playfully. "We are literally flying through the stars right now! This is exactly like the historical data files!"

Kealen remained entirely quiet near the corner window, his hand resting flat against his chest where his mother's silver hairpin was safely secured inside his armor. He stared out into the blackness, his expression calm but filled with a deep, unbreakable resolve. "We're entering their territory now. We have to stay focused."

At the front of the bridge, Captain Drakye Void stood like an unmovable statue, . "Cut the chatter," he commanded sharply, his deep voice immediately silencing the squad. "We are approaching the rendezvous point with the 9th Division. Prepare for synched communication."

A loud electronic beep echoed through the console as the secondary fleet channel spliced into their array, bringing up the audio feeds of the 9th Division's primary elite unit.

"10th Division, this is Sora," a confident voice rang through the speakers as the 9th Division's frontline specialist checked in. "Our visual arrays are picking up massive energy spikes ahead. The localized space around the target is heavily warped."

"Yeah, our heavy scanners are confirming it too," Kahn grunted, his deep voice carrying the strain of a heavy-weapons specialist. "The gravitational pull of that thing is already tugging at our thrusters. Keep your alignment tight, everyone."

"Don't go drifting off course now, 10th," Kross laughed dryly over the static. "I'd hate to have to fish any of you out of a black hole before the party even starts."

"The biological readouts from the approaching mass are highly irregular," Dr. D added, his analytical tone entirely focused on the data streams flowing across his terminal. "The atmospheric composition inside the outer shell is dense enough to crush standard human bone structure without these specialized suits. Ensure your internal pressure levels are locked."

"We're locked and ready," Lyra whispered softly, her voice carrying a tense but steady focus as she glanced toward the tracking screen where Elias's ship alignment was visible. "Just make sure everyone keeps their heads down when we hit the perimeter. The sensors are going to get completely blinded by the interference."

Behind them, the broader ranks of the 9th Division could be heard in the background, a low, anxious murmur rippling through the transport as hundreds of soldiers stared out of the viewing ports in sheer awe and disbelief at the scale of the void.

After a few more hours of continuous flight, the sheer speed of the Zethrian-designed ships finally brought them to the edge of the coordinates. The fleet slowed its propulsion, dropping out of hyper-velocity cruise mode as they reached the true destination.

Then, they saw it.

The moving planet finally filled their view, and the entire armada went completely dead silent. It was absolutely enormous—a gargantuan, terrifying mass of dark metallic alloy, jagged synthetic continents, and massive glowing golden light that burned like miniature stars along its lower axis. Seeing it with their own naked eyes, the scale was completely overwhelming. Every single soldier in the fleet felt like nothing more than a microscopic parasite floating against the circumference of an ancient cosmic god. They were utterly stunned, paralyzed by the sheer impossibility of its existence.

But in the center of the 10th Division bridge, Nyx slowly stepped closer to the primary glass pane, a sharp, brilliant smile suddenly breaking across her face as her blue eyes reflected the massive red glow of the fortress.

"Finally," Nyx smiled, her voice dripping with absolute excitement. "Something big enough to explode."
