Chapter 13 - 13

Chapter 13

Rooftop Policies & Plausible Deniability

The report landed on Principal Darkholm's desk at 2:17 PM.

She didn't look up immediately.

She finished signing a funding approval for "Advanced Structural Reinforcement – Gym Ceiling (Again)" before opening the folder.

SUBJECT: Unauthorized Legendary-Class Entity

DESCRIPTION: Pink. Floating. Says "Mew."

THREAT LEVEL: ?

CUTENESS LEVEL: Concerning.

Principal Darkholm leaned back slowly.

Her yellow eyes shimmered briefly.

Mystique did not like unknown variables.

Especially not flying ones.

She tapped the intercom.

"Send surveillance footage."

The screen flickered.

There it was.

A small pink shape floating beside Jake.

Teleporting between classrooms.

Phasing through lockers.

Helping itself to cafeteria pudding.

She narrowed her eyes.

"Interesting."

She stood.

Time for a personal evaluation.

Meanwhile — Rooftop

Because of course it was the rooftop.

Where all unnecessary escalation occurs.

Students had formed a circle.

Phones out.

Pokémon ready.

In the center—

Dick Grayson stretched casually.

Across from him—

Katsuki Bakugo cracked his knuckles.

Between them:

Fletchling fluttered confidently.

And opposite—

Mankey vibrated with contained rage.

Bakugo pointed aggressively.

"Simultaneous combat. Pokémon and trainer. First to yield loses."

Dick smirked.

"Try not to blow up the HVAC system again."

Bakugo's eye twitched.

"I'LL BLOW UP WHATEVER I WANT!"

Mankey screeched in solidarity.

Jake stood near the edge, clutching his bag.

"…Why is this allowed?"

Beside him, a green-haired boy scribbled furiously in a notebook.

Izuku Midoriya muttered under his breath.

"Fletchling altitude advantage, Bakugo's aggression likely mirrored by Mankey, probability of rooftop collateral damage— 78%—"

He sketched real-time stick-figure trajectories.

Jake leaned slightly away.

"…Is this a school or a combat arena?"

"Yes," Wednesday answered flatly from somewhere behind him.

The Duel Begins

"Go!" someone shouted.

Fletchling launched skyward instantly.

Mankey leapt with feral enthusiasm.

Simultaneously—

Dick flipped backward into a handstand and launched himself upward using a grappling line.

Bakugo propelled forward with a controlled blast.

Jake blinked.

"…Those are definitely not sidekicks."

Dick's domino mask slipped partially from his bag during a mid-air spin.

He casually shoved it back in without missing a beat.

"Just athletic scholarship," he called smoothly.

Bakugo detonated near him mid-air.

Mankey used Low Kick on Fletchling mid-dive.

The bird Pokémon twisted and countered with Quick Attack.

The trainers collided simultaneously—

Flip.

Blast.

Roll.

Recovery.

Izuku's pencil snapped from speed.

He immediately grabbed another.

Jake rubbed his temples.

"This is normal here."

"Yes," Wednesday said.

Gastly floated approvingly.

Enter: Authority

The rooftop door opened.

Silence did not happen.

Because Mankey chose that moment to Rage.

Fletchling screeched dramatically.

Dick and Bakugo locked forearms mid-air.

Then—

A calm, precise voice.

"Continue."

Everyone froze.

Mystique stepped forward.

In her current form, she appeared as the composed, statuesque Principal Darkholm.

Hands behind her back.

Expression neutral.

"I wish to observe form."

Bakugo blinked.

"…You're not shutting this down?"

"Property damage assessment comes after performance review."

Dick grinned.

"Love this school."

Jake stared at the sky.

"This cannot be accredited."

Mew teleported onto his shoulder.

"Mew."

"Yes I know," Jake whispered. "It's impressive."

Subtle World Notes

As the duel intensified:

Shirts tore.

Gloves smoked.

Fletchling's feathers singed.

Mankey's fur bristled.

Uniform integrity was, once again, theoretical.

Several onlookers leaned slightly forward during particularly physics-defying moments.

Then resumed casual observation.

A breeze passed.

Skirts reacted dramatically.

No one commented.

Bakugo detonated downward.

Dick used the shockwave to flip into a spinning kick.

Fletchling struck with Aerial Ace.

Mankey countered with Karate Chop.

Simultaneous impact.

Both trainers landed hard.

Both Pokémon staggered.

Silence.

Then—

Laughter.

Bakugo wiped blood from his lip and grinned savagely.

Dick extended a hand.

Bakugo stared at it.

Then slapped it away and stood on his own.

"Next time I win."

"Looking forward to it."

Mankey and Fletchling both fainted dramatically.

Izuku wrote:

Mutual growth scenario. Rivalry potential: high.

Principal Darkholm stepped forward.

"Acceptable."

She turned slightly.

Her gaze landed on Jake.

And Mew.

Her eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly.

"Mister Calison."

Jake froze.

"Yes, Principal?"

"That creature."

Mew blinked innocently.

"Is it registered?"

Jake swallowed.

"…Emotionally?"

Her eyebrow lifted.

The rooftop wind shifted.

For half a second—

Her skin shimmered blue.

Then normal again.

"I would like a meeting."

Jake nodded slowly.

"Of course."

Mew purred.

Aftermath

As students dispersed—

Yang approached.

Torchic perched on her shoulder.

"That was awesome."

Jake nodded weakly.

"I think I need insurance."

Blake joined them quietly.

"Principal noticed your cat."

"Yes."

Yang leaned closer slightly.

Her voice dropped.

"Rooftop duels are optional."

Jake blinked.

"Optional?"

She smirked.

"Some of us prefer… private training."

Blake's ears twitched subtly.

Jake's brain stalled briefly.

Mew teleported between them.

"Mew."

Yang laughed.

"Relax, farm boy. You don't even have a Pokémon yet."

Jake looked at the skyline.

At the mountains.

The forest.

The coast visible beyond.

At the school that allowed rooftop combat supervised by a shapeshifting principal.

"…I need a starter."

Mew floated higher.

Principal Darkholm watched from the doorway.

Eyes calculating.

Legendary-class entities.

Unregistered human variables.

Cross-universal convergence.

Interesting.

Very interesting.
