Walker Corporation stock opened at a four-point loss.

Daniel sent the number at nine thirty-one. A single text. Just the figure. No context, no framing — Daniel's specific method for information that required no elaboration because the number was the message and the message was understood.

Kendrick read it in the car on the way to the bookshop.

Four points.

In a single morning.

Before ten o'clock on a Tuesday.

He put the phone in his pocket and looked at the city through the window and did the specific internal work of separating what he felt about the number from what the number actually meant strategically. They were related but not the same. He'd learned that distinction across four months of fighting for something that cost him things he hadn't anticipated needing to spend.
