"Last Thursday," Marcus said. "Dinner at the residence. Seven fifteen."
He'd set his coat on the stool near the register without being invited to, which Damian noted — not as presumption, as someone making themselves present for a difficult thing rather than keeping the coat on as armor.
"I went to the kitchen for water," Marcus continued. "The study door was open. Richard was on the phone." He paused. "He didn't know I could hear him. Or—" He stopped. "Or he didn't care. With Richard it's sometimes hard to tell the difference."
Kendrick was very still beside Damian.
"Who was he talking to," Kendrick said.
